I have purposefully limited this poll to only the Sci-fi/Fantasy films that Stephen Spielberg has directed. I think I got them all.

So...which are the best of Spielberg's Sci-fi fantasy films? You can vote for up to two films.

IMO I think that Close Encounters is the best film he has made in this genre. It just is so well written, directed, acted et al that you come away from the film with a sense of wonder and awe. I loved it the first time I saw it and it continues to grow on me. I especially love the scene when Dreyfuss is going over the edge and starts making Devil's Mountain by bringing sand and dumping it into his living room. I also love the opening scene with all the Hindu's chanting the Close Encounters theme. The John Williams score really makes this film special.

Second, I voted for ET because it's just so wonderful. It's one film that moves me emotionally every time I see it. And every time I see it I tell myself I'm not gonna cry but I inevitably do.  :wacko

War of the Worlds and Minority report might have gotten votes from me if Tom Cruise was not in them I really do not understand Spielberg's choice in him. In general I do not like Tom Cruise films but I thought he was fine in Mission Impossible III and that film alone gives me high hopes for JJ Abrams directing Star Trek 11.

I haven't seen War of the Worlds but I went with the two Jurassic Parks.
Andre Norton does it better than J.K.Rowling

I actually enjoyed all those movies.. they were all entertaining but hands down the best movie on that list is E.T.

I chose ET and Jurassic Park. I will admit ET never made an impression with me, but I do realize that it made a big impression on a lot of other people. At the time it came out, I was very much into Star Wars, and I think the age I was at, I probably did not appreciate it. I suspect that if I had seen it later in my life, it would have impacted me more. I remember Jurassic Park for its groundbreaking visuals, and I felt that it lived up to its hype, and a movie that may stand the test of time better then some of the others on the list.
