Alright!  Rico- you walked three miles with me today, and I listened to the whole podcast.  Great stuff.  I enjoyed the clips and was amazed that you had similar thoughts as I did on the movie.  I too enjoyed the set with the captians wheel.. that was just so cool.  Too bad they didn't do more in that room.  I really enjoyed the clip of them in the brig.  Very nice.

Anyway, cool collectible.  I too used to send off for the stuff on cereal boxes.  Remember Sea Monkeys?  Now those were cool.  I got the cockpit of a colonial viper off of tricks.  Now that was something.

Oh those were the days.

Anyway, great job on the podcast as always...  I hope we're not boring anybody with the father and son review, we get a kick out of doing that together.  We sure don't want to wear out our welcome.  Anyway, keep up the cool work Rico, you rock.

I have been and always will be, your friend.

Umm I don't know if this is just me, but I am having terrible trouble downloading the #101 podcast?! I get about 256k in like 30 minutes and then it cuts out.. and I am on a 1.5meg DSL connection :(

well, I will keep plugging away to get it.

Rico

Sorry you are have trouble downloading the show Richard.  My host seemed to be running slow yesterday - but all seems ok now on my end.  Keep trying.

saunders

hmmm....I can't download it at all.  I'm getting some message that Internet Explorer can't find it what I'm looking for.  I'll try later.

Great show today, Rico.  I loved the focus you put on the camping scenes.

Yep I got it fine after rebooting my router and listened to it this afternoon. Another great show. You picked some great clips from a so-so movie...

one thing you didn't mention that is aminor point... at the start of the movie when the Ent-A is on its way the Captain's Log goes bung and Kirk hands it back to the Yeoman.. who is played by I think it is Melanie Shatner.. anyway his daughter...

Rico

Yep - I knew it was one of Shatner's daughters.  Just kind of let it go.  Always choices about what to put in the podcast and what to leave out.  Did you also know that the malfunctioning log book message (Good morning Captain) was also a jab at the what Scotty did to the Excelsior's transwarp drive in Trek 3 and the message Capt. Stiles gets?

Another interesting bit of trivia is that "God" is played by the doctor from the original "Battlestar Galactica".  I always try to like 5 every time I watch it, but I'm always disapointed.  It looks like a tv movie to me.  There are some good points though, and Jerry Goldsmith does do a nice score.

Another Grand Slam Home Run epsiode Rico. On the Tivia bit, the Person who played J'oon(The Fellow Sybock meets at the start of the movie), Rex Holman, also played Morgan Earp in Spectre of the Gun on the Original Series

So am I the only one who's thinking that it's a commentary on the Holy Trinity?

We talk about the "main three" of McCoy, Spok and Kirk, but there's also the Holy Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

The movie's ending includes the line "What if God is right here?" then they start to sing Row Row Row Your Boat in a 3 part round, showing the blending of 3 sperate entities into one.  Is it possible that Shatner sees the "Main Three" as aspects of the Holy Trinity?  We know to a degree that they represent the seperation man's tempermants:  McCoy is passion, Spok is logic and Kirk must balance the two equally in his actions/ thoughts.

Just, ya know, saying....

Enjoyed the Podcast on ST-V. The conventional wisdom on this one is that it supports the even-odd theory, that the odd-numbered TOS movies are the weaker ones and that the even-numbered ones are the better ones. I would tend to agree with that. However, I did enjoy this movie. As others have mentioned, the camping scene was great fun. I liked the jailbreak scene as well. I guess my final thought would be that even though we might consider this a weak entry, it's still Star Trek and we're still in the universe created (or maybe foreseen) by Gene Roddenberry. It's like the baseball maxim: "The worst guy in the Major Leagues is still in the Major Leagues."
