Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection (Star Trek I, II, III, IV, V, VI + The Captain's Summit Bonus Disc) on Bluray is $34.99 today - http://amzn.to/14Qy99N

I've not brought /any/ Trek Blurays yet, and the 1* reviews on Amazon have me a little concerned.  Has anyone got this set and happy with it?  Or know if another set is coming out soon that will be better I should wait for?

I trust your reviews over random people on the Interwebs!

Cheers,

My only issue with these is the lack of the good bonus features on the previous releases and they are the original film releases I believe as opposed to the extended/Director cuts.

Thanks, $35 seems like a good deal for all those discs, but right now I can stream most of those films via Amazon Prime so I want some kind of value add.  I'd like to own the films, but I'd like to own definitive versions of those films rather than buy them again and again.  Otherwise I would probably just pick out just my favs.

Definitely a good deal...if I didn't already have all the films on DVDs chock full of bonus features I'd probably pull the trigger myself.

I own the set and have been very happy with it. Like Bryan I would have preferred the Director Cut editions of I and II but to have the films on Blu-Ray is still really nice. I would buy a Director's Cut edition of The Motion Picture for sure because it was a great improvement over the theatrical version. I doubt we will ever see it though because the redone special effects would have to be redone again, but you never know.

Yes, I was disappointed that the directors cut of TMP wasn't included, but I guess the new effects weren't in HD and would have looked bad. Some people have complained about the color saturation in TWOK and over smoothing in STI, but overall for 35 bucks you can't beat it.

The biggest gripes in the reviews seemed to be the Bluray transfer. See: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/2141/startrek_originalmotionpicturecollection.html - but as you lot are happy with it - I pulled the trigger and ordered it.

You swayed me :) Thanks all!

The picture quality in some spots may not be ideal but I think it will be quite a while before Paramount gives us anything better. The video quality still surpasses the DVDs by a mile! And at $35.00 it's a real bargain in my opinion.

Even when Blu-Ray transfers aren't perfect or the best, they are light years beyond the resolution and quality of a DVD.  This set is well worth the cost.
