I've been waiting a long time for this one. I played the first hour or so last night and enjoyed it so far....I'll keep you posted.

Love to hear how you like it.  What system are you playing it on?

Xbox 360...very jealous of Surak up above since I heard that the PC sku is the version to play.  Reports are that the console versions had to significantly cut corners with textures and framerate to make the game playable on the aging hardware.  But to my eyes, the game is gorgeous and runs fine on my system.  I played hooky for a couple hours this morning and playted some more, so after about two-three hours playtime I can report that this game is totally awesome.

I was a big fan of the first Bioshock, and played it two and a half times, first on Xbox360 and then again on my iMac.  This sequel feels a whole lot like the original game, especially how the powers (now called Vigors) can combine with the melee abilities and gunplay to offer a really deep level of strategy to the combat sequences.  But with five or six years to iterate and improve on the concepts introduced in the original, this game just feels better in almost every way.  So far I have three abilities: fireball, posession, and my favorite one called murder of crows, which summons a flock of birds to distract and annoy enemies giving you the opportunity to freely dispatch them.  The story is mysterious and fascinating.  Once again the history of the universe is fleshed out by recordings and "kinescopes" you find hidden around the environments.  There's some pretty fascinating stuff that's been hinted at so far, surrounding alternate histories and other-dimensional travel, and I get the feeling that there's some ties to the Bioshock Infinite universe and the "real world" we call our own that we'll be learning more about as the game progresses.

This is the kind of game that dominates my thoughts when I should be thinking about and doing other things...it's great fun.

Finished this game last night...and WOW it was a mind blower. Possibly the most intricate, well plotted story and universe ever created for a video game.  Without any spoilers, all Ill say is that fans of the TV show "Fringe" are going to absolutely love the story in this game.
