Rumors have been swirling since this past June, when leaked spec documents first pointed to the Microsoft release of a gaming tablet.  Yesterday these rumors were confirmed, and reportedly the tablet will be released sometime next year, in advance of whatever next-generation gaming console MS releases to succeed the Xbox 360.  This makes sense, considering the announcement at E3 expo this year of Smartglass tech, which connects consoles to an app on player's tablet computers and allows for dual screen gaming and other interactive features.  I'm interested to see what MS has to offer in a gaming centric tablet.  full story here:

Well, let's hope it's got much better performance than the current surface because the current one can't even play Cut the Rope or high fidelity games without lagging terribly (according to reviews of the system).

Funny how you and I were just debating the move of gaming to portable...  :boxing

Well the early leaked specs indicated bluetooth support for up to four wireless controllers, so unless they're planning on limiting people to playing Gauntlet on an emulator, they are probably beefing up the internal hardware for real next gen gaming.

I have no issue with gaming happening on mobile devices. It's been going on for a very long time (Gameboy) but has taken a swing towards what I consider the worse with these freemium scams they have come up with lately. What I disagreed with, is your assertion that mobile gaming will replace PC gaming entirely. If the iPad and iPhone stay roughly the same, they will not. You simply can't get the same experiences from these devices like you can with your PC and, to a lesser extent, console and the games that come with those platforms. It is not a question of game fidelity or power of the hardware at this point. It is the fact that games produced for iOS and Android are "toilet games". Games meant to be played in very short quantities of time, filling out parts of your day.

Granted, the future could radically change these devices so if that does happen, then it's possible. But right now? No.

This was my first "mobile" gaming device.  It's quite a bit older than Gameboy...

I never said that, I said it would marginalize PC gaming.

ChrisMC

PC gaming is already pretty marginalized compared to a decade ago.

Hmm. Then I misread what you said. Whoops.
