VHS to DVD

I want to get all my girlfriends old tapes on DVD.   I've heard of Roxio software.  Anyone else out in forumland have success doing this?

Easiest way to do this is to use a VHS to DVD recorder unit.  However, if these are VHS tapes of movies that were purchased it won't do that (due to the copy protection).  The other way would be to buy a tuner card, use PC software and record the tapes, then burn to DVD.  A much more lengthy process.
