I have read some rumors that this movie might be released in 2010.  I am a big fan of the books and the (dated) movie.  Anyone else heard any news \ rumors?

Yeah it's talked about in another thread.. I'll see if I can find it.

I hope, I hope, I hope! I love "Logan's Run". Saw the movie in theaters and read the book a bunch of times.

I wonder if the new movie will be a remake of the movie, or stay truer to the novel(s).  They were two very different creatures.

Hmmmmm...I am thinking the following dream cast:
Ewan MacGregor as Logan 5 / 3 (if from the book)
Tricia Helfer as Jessica 7 (that one is for me...)
Michael York as the 'Old Man' played by Peter Ustinoff in the movie (as a homage)
Jamie Bamber as Francis...

Very much so I would love to see a version done that is more true to the book. I doubt they would go down the same path as the film, that was so heavily '70's influenced. I think the book is more in line with toady's sensibilities and would be more in touch with the current audience. Great casting list!

As much as I love Ewan McGregor, and I don't have a problem with him as Logan, I just think Logan's Run would probably be to most people who haven't seen the original or know anything about the story to seem like an Island remake. When you brought up Ewan McGregor it just dawned on me that those two stories have some major similarities.

Bromptonboy

Yes - indeed!  ((One reason I didn't suggest Scarlett Johannsen as Jessica)).  I always thought of The Island as Logan's Run meets Bladerunner...
that being said I loved The Island for the most part - enjoying the clever story, while deploring the chase scenes tossed in to appease the wider public (almost like 2 directors working on that one!).

I never saw "The Island" but that's a good point. Logan needs to have that combination of self confidence as a Sandman but also frightened by the prospects of his own death and run. So not so much a hard core dude, but someone with a more balanced acting style...which would be someone like Ewan!

ElfManDan

I just throw in someone for the fun of it. What would you think of Ben Browder as Logan?

Bromptonboy

Hmm, he would be pretty good I think.

How about Jude Law as Logan?  Or Matt Damon as Francis?

According to IMDB, it's scheduled for a 2012 release. No information other than "in development"

I think I would prefer to see younger actors in the roles to be more like the novels which had a younger age for carousel. How about Hayden Christensen for Logan? (Joke)

How about Jamie Bell or somebody of a similar age?

Rico

It would never happen, but how about this duo for Logan and Jessica?  Chris Pine can reboot all Sci-Fi franchises from now on!  ;)

Bromptonboy

That works for me!  I just really want to see this movie redone.
