This Droid phone is just out now.  Looks pretty cool.  Nice 480 by 854 pixel touchscreen and also a slim slideout keyboard.  Looks to be a good alternative to the iPhone and one of the best Android based smart phones around.

Yes, Android is maturing quickly. I'm impressed they've pulled Motorola in too. HTC was fine for the last round but thats very definately a PDA company. Motorola make 'proper' phones!

The image with the keyboard is a bit too remeniscient of my last WM device so sent a few shivers down my spine but I suspect this handles voice calls a lot better than that thing ever did.

I like the look of it but don't know about the feel - never used Android. I should think the free Nav app will pull in a few people but if it's streamed from Google then service availability will quickly become an issue.

Still, it looks good.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Yeah - the turn-by-turn navigation link with Google maps is pretty sweet.

Talked to a colleage of mine who's husband did a bit of work on the turn-by-turn app for Google. It is apparently streamed at all times so a pretty good data connection will be required at all times when using it and probably a ar charger too!

Still, from the implementation videos I've seen, the use of street view and the sattelite maps images make for a pretty neat package.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

I like the QWERTY keyboard on the new phone.  That is my major beef with the iPhone - which I otherwise love.  Fat Fingers make text tough.

The whole "Droid does what iDon't" ad campaign reminds me a little too much of how they advertised the Sega Genesis/MegaDrive over here: "Sega does what Nintendon't".

Not a good comparison, especially for us geeks who lived thru that nasty console war.

Love Star Trek TOS & TNG (never really got into DS9, Voyager, or Enterprise).  Also love Star Wars (everything save for the prequels...), and Indiana Jones, and ElfQuest, basically anything remotely SF or fantasy is my bag, tho I tend more towards SF than I do fantasy.

I had the Nintendo because the folks bought it. I had the sega because I bought it. Sega was a better machine, and it was unfortunate that Nintendo won with branding
