As some of you know, the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. is the home of the 11 foot filming model of the TOS Enterprise. When I was a kid, it hung above the entry way to an exhibit on the main floor. It received a refurbish and new paint job a number of years ago and was part of a larger Star Trek exhibit with an original Klingon Cruiser model and props and costumes. I was never a big fan of the repaint, it's too green and the panel lines a too exagerated, IMO. Anyway, now the old girl has been relegated to the basement of the frackin' gift shop!!!  :mad2: I hope interest in the new films allow her to find a better home, possibly at another museum where it could be properly showcased and preserved.

Great pictures Bryan.. thanks for sharing.

Cool pictures Bryan.  I was there back in 2002 I think and saw her then.  I really liked visiting DC and the museums.  Fun places to see!

I do look rather futuristic, don't I? :)

Man; that ship is beautiful!  Hopefully, the excitement surrounding the release of the new movie will get her moved out of the basement and back into the limelight where she belongs!

Does for me too, just wish they'd change the no camera policy. I love these pictures though.

You know what REALLY p***es me off about the refurb?

It used to have wires running down the pylon on one side, and was never shot on that side.  For the refurb they removed those wires so now it no longer appears as it originally did.

Another thing about that place is they have (or did - dunno if they still do) a phaser on display that a fan made based on the Starfleet Technical manual, which is highly incorrect and was based on guesswork.  They were passing it off as genuine.   :hate
