As anyone who's listened will know I tried out Skype for iPhone on the Skype call this weekend.

From my end it worked flawlessly and was a lot more mobile than being tethered to the PC - I was bathing two children during the call :). It seems to be somewhat clearer than Fring (another Skype client for the iPhone) and with the headphones in, the audio quality of what I could hear was about the same as that of the podcast itself.

From listening to the 'cast, it was clear I was on a phone and didn't have a proper mic. but that may be due more to the fact that I was using the Apple headphone mic. rather than the phone mic. itself. I may try that another time and see if it improves the quality at the other end.

It only does audio and text chat so you can't transfer files or anything but that pretty much covers what I want. THe only thing I'd change is to have it maintain a connection with the phone turned off (Fring does) saving the battery power required to drive the screen while maintaining a connection.

Apparently it's not available in Canada and AT&T are taking pot-shots at Apple for including it in the AppStore in the US.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

I thought you sounded pretty clear actually Mike, it wasnt till you said you was using your phone i noticed a slight differenve but otherwise i would have said you were using a standard mic.

OK. Worth knowing, thanks. I thought it was quite noticable but maybe that was because I knew.
