I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I wanted to poll everyone on which TV / Movie version of A Christmas Carol or Scrooge you like the best.

My vote is for the British version done back on the 1950's starring Alastair Sim. I remember catching this one very late on Christmas Eve / Christmas Day at about 3am in the morning when I was living in New York on a local TV station in the 1970's and was enchanted by it. They have since released a DVD with a Colorized version that was done back in the 90's that also included the original B&W version which has all the full scenes which frequently get edited in colorized versions. I think the performaces are brillant as only a English cast and production can do it. Yes I know the one performed by Mr. Stewart should be my favorate but I love this one the best. Most of it is on Youtube but if you see the DVD I recommend you grab this rare gem.

You'll need to double click on the placeholder below to see it on Youtube as embedding is not permitted.

The winner is clearly the genius that is 'The Muppet's Christmas Carol', followed by 'Scrooged' as a close second.
This question has baffled mankind for all eternity... why don't sheep shrink in the rain?

'The Muppet's Christmas Carol' is by far the best. Ever.

I have seen almost every version ever made of this classic story but as far as I'm concerned the 1938 version with Reginald Owen as Scrooge and Gene Lockhart as Bob Cratchit is the best! This version has such heart and the special effects for 1938 are fantastic. Leo G. Carroll as Marley's Ghost is unsurpassed. It's not likely any version will ever beat this one as far as I'm concerned.

Alaister Simm version (B&W not colourised) is the best for me, Sim's acting is second to none. Then (The one most close to the book) is actually the Patrick Stewart version. Will have to get hold of Kevins suggestion.

I loved "Scrooged". Bill Murray was awesome in that.

I don't know about 'best' but it's become my tradition to watch Patrick Stewarts version every year (as it's always on).

Having said that, I missed it this year.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

It was on twice Mike, weird. Did you see the version on Channel 5 today? It was a woman as the scrooge character and William Shatner was ghos of Christmas present. Oh and Gary 'What ya lookin at Willis' Coleman was Ghost of Christmas past. Weird version and pretty bad.

HawkeyeMeds, that's "A Carol Christmas" with Shatner, Coleman and Tori Spelling in the lead role.

I tuned in when it premiered a few years, just because The Shat was in it.  My word, it was painfully bad.

My wife will watch nearly any Christmas special, but even she changed the channel a half-hour into that.

Yeah , I know it was on twice but I missed both. I didn't see the other either but it doesn't sound like I missed too mich there.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

I like just about every version that has been done - even the musical one.  But I'm probably more fond of the 50's version and have seen that one the most.

I've always loved "Scrooge", the musical from 1970, starring Albert Finney.  We used to watch that every year when I was a kid.
