Everyone has heard of cold fusion, well how about the the good old hot kind? Thats right, just like what are sun used to keep its self going.  By 2017 we could have a full scale industrial prototype of a Fusion reactor! Scary, not so much. When Chernobyl melted down it exposed approx. 125 tons of fissile material with a half life of 4.5 billion years.  If a fusion reactor would ever spontaneously shut down you me stuck with about a gram of fissile material with a half like of a couple of days.

Amazing as it might sound, ITER would be able to produce enough energy to support a family of four for a year from one five gallon bucket of water and one a box of river rocks.  Hydrogen from the water and lithium from the rocks. Thats all you need!  If you don't want to use all the world rocks, you could also use old worn down laptop batteries.

So next time someone whines about the absence on a new type of energy production, smack him/her in the brain with ITER!
