Love 'em, hate 'em, ignore them ?

I read some reviews - mainly Detroit Free Press and News.  Usually these guys hardly EVER agree.  Free Press likes the more artsy type/foreign films - 3 hours of a guy watching a tree grow.  :D  Can pin down the critic in the News.  He will like movies that I would never see and trash ones that I liked.  When they do agree, the flick tends to rate high with other critics.   I try to watch At the Movies and still enjoy reading Roger Ebert - who in my opinion is a nerd and should be a member of this forum.  Wouldn't that be cool ?

I used to read reviews more and watched Siskel and Ebert all the time back in the day.  But now I frankly rarely read a review.  I know what I like and want to see and just follow that.  I do listen to what friends have to say and people that like the types of things that I enjoy (like most of the people here).  But critics just generally don't seem to like what I enjoy.  Although, over the last few years I think there must be more "geek critics" because they seem to be liking more and more what I do.

Robert and Ebert (misspelled no doubt) are, in my opinion, the best critics I could listen to.  75% of the time I will agree with them on movies and such.  So I guess I don't hate em.  However, I will not listen to critics that aren't "official".  They tend to be very off and usually their comments are pointless and worthless.

As it will typically go though, I follow Rico's saying.  Just go see it if I think I will like it.  Works most of the time. :)

I read (religiously) Total Film magazine and Empire magazine here in England but i do not take much notice of the actual reviews because if i want to see a film then i'll go and see it. It's nice to see what a reviewer says then when the DVD review comes out see what the same reviewer says. Normal its the opposite.

But you could have read a review of Mist and saved all that aggravation.  :D

I find Roger Ebert and I tend to like the same movies.

Normally I have my mind made up if I will see a movie or not, and usually do not base any of my decision based off of Movie Critics.

I do like reading Roger Eberts reviews, as I agree with him most of the time on what he says, and he seems to review movies from a more realistic point of view, in terms of will most people enjoy it or not.

Critics shmitics. heh

I never listen or read what they have to say. I much rather go with some friend's recomendation because we may have similar points of view.

Critics tend to hate movies or to recomend boring as hell crap. heh

I also search for what people have to say on forums and blogs.

Though I like art cinema, I also enjoy mindless explotions and action flicks. So I mostly use common sense and word of mouth for picking movies to watch.
