What happens if you and a group of your teenage friends discover that your parents are really a band of very bad supervillains?

You get a comic book series made about you....then it gets turned into a major live-action motion picture.

That is the premise behind Marvel Comics' "Runaways" series and it is also what will soon be happening to the very successful comic characters.

Co-creators Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona have been tapped by Marvel Studios to adapt their series for the big screen. If you're not familiar with the comic or Vaughn, you might know him from another success story — "Lost" on ABC. Vaughn is one of that hit show's producers and writers.

"Runaways" debuted in 2002 and won immediate critical attention and praise for its honest portrayal of teens and their issues, eventually winning the Harvey Award for best comic series 4-years later.

Finding their family secret too much to deal with, the band of teenage "Runaways" take off from their homes on a series of adventures that sends them all on the road of self-discovery about, not only themselves, but also their parents' origins and of their own inherited powers, while trying to make up for the past evils done by their parents.

Just a note of trivia: Joss Whedon ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Firefly," "Dollhouse") picked up the writing credits for the comic series after issue #24 when Vaughn and Alphona stepped aside.

I love this book. I don't love that it seems to take more than a year between sections, but I love the book.

I also love the comic and think it would make a great movie or series of movies.
