CW schedule

Despite slipping badly in each of its first two years of existence - wasn't the merger of UPN and the WB supposed to make everything do better, not worse? - the CW is returning much of its schedule intact for next season. Night-by-night:

Sunday: They've subcontracted out their lowest-rated night to independent producers; nothing's been announced yet.

Monday: The recent pairing of "Gossip Girl" at 8 and "One Tree Hill" at 9 will stick together.

Tuesday: A remake of "Beverly Hills 90210" - this time called, simply, "90210" - features an interesting cast (including Tristan Wilds from "The Wire," Jessica Walter from "Arrested Development," Lori Loughlin and, in a recurring role, original "90210" castmember Jennie Garth) and a couple of producers from "Freaks and Geeks," so it could turn out to be better than expected. It's at 8, followed by yet another soap about the wealthy and fabulous, titled "Surviving the Filthy Rich."

Wednesday: "America's Next Top Model" is paired with the Tyra-produced "Stylista," a reality copy of "The Devil Wears Prada" where women compete for a job at Elle magazine.

Thursday: "Smallville" and "Supernatural" return, the former for its final season, and surprise renewal "Reaper" (which has gotten much better of late) will be here at some point in mid-season to prevent the other two from having to air many repeats.

Friday: Pro wrestling has migrated to MyNetworkTV (the amalgamation of stations that were jilted in the UPN/WB merger), and so the night will feature "Everybody Hates Chris" at 8, "The Game" at 8:30 and "Top Model" repeats at 9. Fellow comedies "Aliens in America" and "Girlfriends" are canceled.

I'm really hoping for some new and interesting things for the last season of "Smallville."
