Dr. Megan Hunt (Dana Delany) was in a class of her own, a brilliant neurosurgeon at the top of her game. Megan resumes her career as a medical examiner, determined to solve the puzzle of who or what killed the victims. What does it take to be a detective on America's most dangerous streets? Get ready to be part of the action when a documentary crew rolls with some of Detroit's finest, offering an insider's glimpse behind the curtain of a Homicide Unit. The cameras unearth the crisis and revelation, heartbreak and heroism of these inner city cops -- moments of raw exposure when they address us directly, as well as private moments when they forget they're being filmed.

There's the damaged but driven Detective Louis Fitch, a wily homicide vet who is the most respected

"MY GENERATION"
What a difference ten years can make. In 2000, a documentary crew follows a disparate group of high schoolers from Greenbelt High School in Austin, TX as they prepare for graduation, then revisits these former classmates ten years later as they return home to rediscover that just because they're not where they planned doesn't mean they're not right where they need to be.

These students couldn't wait to graduate and head out into the real world. But the world they were entering got very real very fast. As these classmates return home to revisit their old hopes for their future, they'll discover that, even if you don't get exactly what you thought you wanted out of life, it's not too late to get what you need.

"NO ORDINARY FAMILY"
The Powells are about to go from ordinary to extraordinary. After 16 years of marriage, Jim and Stephanie's relationship lacks the spark it once had, and their family life now consists of balancing work and their two children, leaving little time for family bonding. During a family vacation set up by Jim in an attempt to reconnect, their plane crashes into the Amazon River. But this is where the fun starts for the Powells, as they soon discover that something's not quite right. Each of them now possesses unique and distinct superpowers. But saving and savoring their family life will be equally important, as they try to find purpose for their new powers and embark on a journey to find out what defines and unifies them. The Powells are a totally relatable family who happen to be a little bit amazing.

"OFF THE MAP"
Executive producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers ("Grey's Anatomy," "Private Practice") and creator Jenna Bans ("Grey's Anatomy") bring you an uplifting medical drama that explores how far you have to go to truly heal.

Welcome to "la ciudad de las estrellas" (the city of stars), a tiny town in the South American jungle which has one understaffed, under-stocked medical clinic. That's where idealistic young Dr. Lily Brenner just landed, along with fellow doctors Mina Minard and Manny Diaz. All of these young doctors are running away from personal demons, but they aren't the only ones with emotional baggage. Take the legendary and enigmatic Ben Keeton, who was the youngest Chief of Surgery at UCLA. He walked away from it all to found the clinic. Together with his right-hand doctor, Otis Cole, he'll teach these newcomers how to save lives in the most challenging environment they've ever worked in.

In this ensemble drama, five doctors who have lost their way will go to the ends of the earth to try to remember the reasons why they wanted to become doctors in the first place.

"BETTER TOGETHER"
Maddie and Ben have been dating for nine years. They know each other inside and out, a relationship marked by contentment and affection, seeing their commitment to one another as a "valid life choice," something they proclaim often — and often loudly. Maddie's younger sister, Mia, has been dating Casey for seven weeks. With a shared c'est la vie attitude, Mia and Casey are smitten with each other, and thrilled to explore the oh-so-many things they don't know about each other yet. But when they announce they're getting married and having a baby, it's news that throws Maddie for a loop. Surprisingly, the girls' parents, Vicky and Joel, couldn't be more pleased. Married 35 years, they have recently adopted a carpe diem sort of philosophy, rather like Mia's, maybe because they're getting older and lost a good portion of their savings when the economy tanked. With three very different relationships tightly intertwined in one family, will it be free thinkers vs. over-thinkers, or will each couple begin to see things a little bit differently?

For years, perfect couple Dave and Alex drew their friends in and held them together. Now that they've split, does this group have the stuff to stay together? Or do Max, Brad, Jane and Penny have to choose sides? Suddenly every event is a negotiation... like, who gets to go on the annual ski trip? There are a lot of big questions to be answered, but this group has been together so long, somehow, little by little, they'll figure out how to hold on, even though their center is split up. It helps that Dave and Alex have agreed to stay friends. But there will definitely be other complications down the road – like Penny's long-suppressed feelings for Dave. What is the waiting period for dating a friend's ex? This show isn't afraid to ask the embarrassing personal questions that inevitably arise in every long-term, close-knit group of friends.

Matthew Perry stars as Ben Donovan, the self-involved manager of a second-rate San Diego sports arena who begins to re-evaluate his life on his 40th birthday. Working alongside him is his boss and arena owner, Crystal -- attractive, powerful and highly erratic; Alice -- the cute, tomboyish marketing director and Ben's friend with benefits; Alonzo – a former basketball player, handsome and unbelievably happy; Ben's assistant, Heather – pretty, sweet, but terrifying because she once lit a boyfriend on fire; Crystal's son, Roman – sweet-faced, clueless and Ben's newest employee; and a hapless operations crew whom Ben refers to collectively as the "Steves."

Cyrus Garza (Smits) is a U.S. Supreme Court justice who abruptly quits the high-level position. 'HARRY'S LAW' - Emmy Award-winning creator David E. Kelley ("The Practice," "Boston Legal") brings his unique storytelling to "Harry's Law," a series about fate and the people it brings together, starring Academy Award winner Kathy Bates ("Misery," "About Schmidt"). Harriet (Bates), Matthew (Ben Chaplin, "Me and Orson Wells") and Malcolm (Aml Ameen, "Kidulthood") couldn't be any more different. Harriet is a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer who, having just been fired from her cushy job, is completely disillusioned with her success and looking for a fresh start. Her world unexpectedly collides with Malcolm's -- a young man trying to figure out life. When he finds out Harriet is a lawyer, he begs her to represent him in an upcoming criminal case. 'LAW & ORDER: LOS ANGELES' - The new "Law & Order: Los Angeles" is a procedural crime drama that will follow the theme and storylines similar to the "Law & Order"-brand series on the streets of Los Angeles. New Comedy Series

'PERFECT COUPLES' -- "Perfect Couples" depicts the misadventures of three engaging couples as they struggle to find out what makes the ideal relationship -- and how to maintain it through humorous trial-and-error. The series explores their heroic journey in search of the perfect relationship without destroying each other in the process. Dave (Kyle Howard, "My Boys") and Julia (Christine Woods, "Flash Forward") are the relatable, normal couple, but Julia's hope of remaining the cool, low-maintenance chick is tested by Dave's attempts to keep both his wife and his needy best friend Vance (David Walton, "Heist") equally happy. PLAIN JANE is a new summer reality series that transforms one woman from the inside out to reveal a brand new woman. Each of the eight episodes will feature a new "Jane" searching for the change of a lifetime. With the help of British fashion expert Louise Roe ("Fashion Police: The 2009 Grammy Awards"), each Plain Jane will receive a head-to-toe style transformation, including new wardrobe and confidence-building exercises. Once the transformation is complete, the formerly Plain Jane will surprise her unsuspecting crush with the new look and reveal her true feelings to him. A love connection is - or isn't - made. Hosted by Louise Roe, PLAIN JANE is executive produced by Allison Grodner ("Big Brother"), Rich Meehan ("Big Brother") and Amy Palmer ("You're Cut Off") for Fly on the Wall Entertainment. A little bit on some ratings for some of the shows on TV currently.  Looks like "The Event" might be in trouble....

On NBC, the network's most promising new show last week, "The Event," had a steep drop. "The Event" garnered 9 million viewers and a 2.9 rating -- down a wince-inducing 19% for its second episode.

CBS' "Hawaii Five-0" (12.7 million, 3.5) also fell, though a more standard 8%.

In fact, most shows were down for their second episodes, but here's two that went up: ABC's "Castle" (11.1 million, 2.8) climbed a rung despite its lead-in slipping. Also, CBS' "How I Met Your Mother" (9 million, 3.9) was up 8% to kick off the network's comedy block.

Overall: ABC won Monday for the second week in a row. "Dancing With the Stars" (21.3 million, 4.8), down a mild 6%. Sarah Palin stopped by to cheer on her daughter while the "Dancing" audience boo'd her (supposedly).

CBS was second, also airing, "Rules of Engagement" (8.2 million, 3.2), up a tenth, "Two and a Half Men" (13.9 million, 4.8), down a tenth, and the second episode of "Mike & Molly" (11.1 million, 3.7). "Molly" was down only 5%, the smallest drop among the freshman Monday shows.

In third, Fox also aired "House" (10.2 million, 3.8), down 10%.

NBC placed fourth, with "Chuck" (5.4 million, 2.0) maintaining its rating. Week 2 of NBC's new action-drama "Chase" (6.3 million, 2.1) slipped 9% at 10 p.m.

The CW's "90210" (2 million, 1.0) perked up a degree, while "Gossip Girl" (1.8 million, 1.0) held steady.

Dubious ratings honor: Both CW shows tied "Lone Star."

Exactly.  I only watched the first episode so far.  After they canceled "Lone Star" after only two episodes I'm pretty gun shy right now for any new series.

The beginning of the fall television season is always so full of life, as new shows enter our living rooms with a spring in their step and promise on the horizon. But then, just a week later, the dark clouds inevitably roll in and death fills the air, his icy fingers poised above the cancellation button.

The Circle of Life for television shows is cruel: The business is at the mercy of an antiquated ratings system, nebulous DVR figures, internet piracy, and the whimsy of executives looking for ways to milk a show for other revenue streams. In short, being a new show ain't easy.

Lone Star was critically adored but invisible to American viewers, and was canceled just after it scratched out a 0.9 rating among the adult demo. But which new show is next on the chopping block? Let's take a look at the candidates to see who is in trouble based on early ratings, network trends, and pure guesswork.


As Good As Gone

Outlaw
The data: Premiere episode - 10.69 million viewers, 2.3/7 (special Wednesday air time). Second episode - 4.99 million viewers, 1.1/4 (regular Friday time slot).
The analysis: Look at that drop!
The hunch: This stands no chance. Goodbye, Mr. Smits, your show may not even make it to the second week of October.

Running Wilde
The data: Premiere episode - 5.87 million viewers, 2.5/7. Second episode - 4.73 million, 2.1/5.
The analysis: While Raising Hope goes up, Running Wilde goes down. Not good.
The hunch: The show is in big trouble. It will be canceled, it's just a matter of when.

The Whole Truth
The data: Premiere episode - 4.91 million viewers, 1.5/4.
The analysis: This one is pretty obvious, don't you think?
The hunch: Never stood a chance. Should be next to go.

My Generation
The data: Premiere episode - 5.22 million, 1.6/5.
The analysis: The show got killed on Thursday night, and it's not looking good for any upward bump.
The hunch: People are going to try to put this down... talkin' 'bout My Generation. Should be ABC's second cancellation. UPDATE (October 2): After doing terribly in Week 2, My Generation has earned the honor of being ABC's first cancellation of the season and the second cancellation overall after Lone Star.


In Danger

Chase
The data: Premiere episode - 7.94 million viewers, 2.5/7 rating/share. Second episode - 6.3 million viewers, 2.1/6
The analysis: It's not going to beat its timeslot competition (Castle, Hawaii Five-0), but it is on NBC, which has other things to worry about.
The hunch: Not going anywhere soon, but its chances for continuing beyond its 13-episode order are 50-50. As for a Season 2? No way.

Better With You
The data: Premiere episode - 7.97 million viewers, 2.5/7 rating/share. Second episode - 7.057 million viewers, 2.1/6
The analysis: A decent-sized drop for Week 2. If this goes under 2.0 next week, it's in big trouble.
The hunch: This is the weak link for ABC's comedy block. The network surely has something on the back burner that's ready to fill the spot.

Undercovers
The data: Premiere episode - 8.57 million viewers, 2.0/6. Second episode (approximated) - 7.00 million, 1.6/5
The analysis: The buzz on this J.J. Abrams show outweighed the results. And a sub-2.0 rating from Abrams isn't what NBC expected.
The hunch: This won't get its back nine episodes picked up, but if NBC is smart, it'd let Undercovers run out its initial 13-episode order, if only to keep a good relationship with Abrams.


Safe... For Now

The analysis: The show was thumped by critics and fans alike. But it's on CBS, which draws viewers like old moths to a flame, and it's got The Big Bang Theory as a lead-in. Were the impressive premiere numbers simply a result of curiosity?
The hunch: The numbers will go down, but probably not enough to get this canceled. Plus it's cheap to make. That all points to a full season. As for a Season 2? It's very possible; hey, According to Jim ran for eight.

Hellcats
The data: Premiere episode - 2.99 million viewers, 1.2/3.
The analysis: Remember, this is the CW. This was a great premiere.
The hunch: If the network renewed Life Unexpected, it'll renew this.

The Event
The data: Premiere episode - 11.19 million viewers, 3.7/9. Second episode - 9.06 million, 2.9/7
The analysis: The second-week drop was expected, and the fact that the numbers didn't completely crumble is a good sign. There's good buzz about the show drowning out the detractors, but viewers are notoriously picky with serialized sci-fi dramas.
The hunch: Lost hovered around 9 million viewers during much of its final season, and this is hit-starved NBC we're talking about. It's in for a full season, and probably for a second as well. NBC's biggest new show by far.

Raising Hope
The data: Premiere episode - 7.48 million viewers, 3.1/8. Second episode - 7.48 million, 3.2/9.
The analysis: The numbers actually went up? Fox wants a successful live-action comedy so badly, and this could be it.
The hunch: This is good for the season and probably next as Fox builds a new comedy empire.

Outsourced
The data: Premiere episode - 7.44 million viewers, 3.5/9.
The analysis: The great premiere numbers have to be an anomaly. The curiosity won't last this week. I expect a big drop-off for Episode 2.
The hunch: Don't be fooled by the first week's numbers. With Parks and Recreation waiting in the wings, Outsourced should be on a short leash. But then again... a 3.5? It did much better than both Community and 30 Rock. Expect NBC to ride this one as long as it can.

The Defenders
The data: Premiere episode - 12.09 million viewers, 2.9/8.
The analysis: It's on CBS. It's in a non-competitive 10:00 pm timeslot. It's got Jim Belushi. Hey, two out of three sometimes works in this business.
The hunch: There's a very good chance this could be on for a while. Jim Belushi says, "Thank you."

Detroit 1-8-7
The data: Premiere episode - 9.75 million viewers, 2.4/7. Second episode - 8.18 million, 2.0/6.
The analysis: Another ABC cop drama and similar results. Middling. Not great, not bad. But good enough for now.
The hunch: It won't be a hit, but it won't be a total bomb. Look for this to go a full season and be a bubble show for return next year, which it probably won't.


Should Live a Long, Happy Life

Hawaii Five-0
The data: Premiere episode - 13.83 million viewers, 3.8/10. Second episode - 12.72 million viewers, 3.6/10.
The analysis: Nothing to fear here.
The hunch: CBS does it again. Almost guaranteed for Season Two.

Mike & Molly
The data: Premiere episode - 12.24 million viewers, 3.9/10. Second episode - 11.12 million viewers, 3.7/9.
The analysis: Not much of a drop at all. The Two and a Half Men lead-in should do nothing but help this show.
The hunch: Barring any unforeseen disasters, expect Mike & Molly to go the distance.

Nikita
The data: Most recent episode - 3.22 million, 1.1/3.
The analysis: Most other CW shows hover around 2 million viewers. 1.1 is nothing to get excited about, but it's pretty standard for this network.
The hunch: Looking pretty safe for now.



Remember, the networks will make the final decisions. These hunches are purely that—hunches. Who can really get into the head of a network executive?
