Superman Sequel Delayed

Warner Brothers has pushed back the release of its proposed sequel to Bryan Singer's Superman Returns to 2010 from 2009 because of the ongoing writers' strike, Variety reported.

No screenwriters are on board. Returns writers Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris opted out of writing the sequel, tentatively called Superman: Man of Steel, and the strike arrived just as other writers were to pitch ideas, the trade paper reported.

Contrary to other reports, the trade paper also said that Warner executives Alan Horn and Jeff Robinov have agreed to proceed with Singer attached to a $170 million Man of Steel packed with more action, a superpowered villain and less romantic melodrama. Singer has reportedly closed his deal to produce and direct the sequel, though other sources told the trade paper that Singer may not helm this time around.
