As some of you know, I am a triathlete. In April, I qualified for the IRONMAN World Championships in Kona, Hawaii after finishing 4th in my age group at Ironman Arizona this April. Ironman races consist of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and a full 26.2 mile marathon. This is the true pinnacle of the sport and what makes it even more special for me is that my mother used to hold a world record at the World Championships back in 1984 and 1986 for women 40-49. She will be coming along with us as well a group of our friends here in Arizona to support me. The race is this coming Saturday. Coverage for the race is on NBC, but it won't be aired until later this month. Live coverage can be found here:

You can even track me by entering my race #1095 and see where I am on the course throught the day. Today i am packing up all my gear and took a few pictures to share, including my bike, on which I will spend about 5 hours on, my mothers old bike box which is now making it's 3rd trip to the World Championships, and the gel flask I will carry on the run with some little motivational phrases to help me through the pain!
We are going to Maui for 4 days after the race, so I will be pretty incommunicado, but I just wanted let my Treks in SciFi family and I will try and make you all proud!  :biggrin

Ripley: Ash. Any suggestions from you or Mother?
Ash: No, we're still collating.
Ripley: [Laughing in disbelief] You're what? You're still collating? I find that hard to believe.

Thanks all! It's going to be hopefully just under a 10 hour day for me, I finished Ironman Arizona in 9:43:42, which put me was the 7th amatuer time for the day. I even beat a bunch of the pro's who race for prize money. The course at Kona is very challenging and I will have my work cut out for me, especailly on the run. At the Arizona race, true story, to take my mind of the pain I treid to recite in my head the dialogue to Star Wars....I made it as far as, "There will be no escape for the Princess this time." before the pain cmae back in, but it helped get me through miles 18-26.2 at the end!

At first I thought, Ironman? That's not out yet, how can he be going to it? Then I actually read the thread. My god this is amazing. Kick some ass, take some names, I wish I was capable of things like this!

Good luck!

Oh and sweet bike.
