McFarlane Returns To Oz

Spawn creator Todd McFarlane and Josh Olson are preparing Oz, a revisionist take on the L. Frank Baum books that hatched The Wizard of Oz, Variety reported. Warner Brothers and Village Roadshow Pictures are teaming up for the movie.

The project was acquired based on an idea by McFarlane that was fleshed out and pitched by Olson (A History of Violence).

Olson will write, and McFarlane will produce with Thunder Road's Basil Iwanyk.

McFarlane and Olson make it clear that they are still working out the tone of the film, the trade paper reported. McFarlane has a vision of Oz that is a dark, edgy and muscular PG-13; Olson has something a little tamer, and PG, in mind.

SCI FI Channel is preparing its own take on the material: Tin Man, an SF miniseries based loosely on Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which debuts in December.

Hmmm.....interesting.  I like McFarlane but a new OZ movie?  That's going to be a tough one to pull off.  The "Tin Man" miniseries looks interesting.

Yeah I don't know if they can top a classic.. that would be like re-making Star Wars or Star Trek.. .oh wait they are remaking Star Trek :)

Aagin...why do we need family classics remade to be "darker and edgier"  Leave well enough alone.

That said I am a Spawn fan so I will be curious to see what he does and I do want to see "Tin man" :)
I think it was Socrates who spoke the immortal words:  I drank WHAT?

This should be if nothing else interesting.
