I know it has been a very long time since I posted anything here in the forums but I just had to report on my visit today to Trek in the Park here in Portland, OR. This is the fourth year that they've performed. This year was a production of "Journey to Babel." Partly cloudy day. The sun was dipping behind the clouds for most of the afternoon but by the time the show started, it had clouded up and so it was not bright. The temperature was a nice 76 degrees. We got there several hours before and made a nice afternoon of it. The performance was in Cathedral Park which sits right underneath the St. Johns Bridge. The St. Johns Bridge is a beautiful old bridge several miles north of Portland on the Willamette River. As the performance got closer the natural amphitheater, that was being used for the show, began to fill up. There must have been over 2500 people by the time the show started. The cast was perfect. The audience was so in to the performance. They had a small band perform all the music and the incidental music. They even had a girl come out and do the singing that is part of the theme. The scene changes were done smoothly and swiftly. The money for all of the sets, costumes, etc came out of the pockets of the people involved in the production. They even had a special guest who played a redshirt. In the scene where the Enterprise is fighting the enemy vessel at the same time that Dr. McCoy is performing the transfusion on Sarek, someone came from out in the audience to take over the seat vacated by Chekov when he moved over to the science station. That redshirt was played by none other than Garrett Wang, Ens. Harry Kim himself. It was a great moment. When the show was over, the cast came out for the their bows and were given a standing ovation. From the looks on their faces, I don't think they were expecting the reaction they got from the crowd. Everyone was jazzed by the show. They announced that next years performance will be Trouble with Tribbles. I'm so going to be there for that. They even staged the announcement like it was a trailer for the next episode. The whole thing was one of the best events I've been to since I've been living here in Portland. It was fun.
