Starting this coming July, Netlfix will begin to have every Trek episode, from every series up for instant streaming! How cool is that going to be?!

Sweet!!!
So much for canceling Netflix.....gotta hold on now.
I am so down for re-watching all of DS9.
I told Carol. Her response "Oh joy" in a rather sarcastic tone :)
You know the funny thing about all this. Many, many years ago when I would go to sleep playing audio recordings of the original Trek series, (yes before even video tapes), I used to sort of dream about having a little magic TV by my bed that I could turn on and have it play any episode of "Star Trek" I felt like watching. And now today, I can do just that. Isn't the future wonderful?! Now, where are my flying cars?? ;)
This is great news. I love it. I too want to re-watch DS9. EXCELLENT!
Hmm, that means I need to stop having Voyager DVDs sent to me. Sweet :)
King
How sweet it is! I can't even begin to tell you how frustrated it made me that I couldn't watch Trek on demand on my Netflix account. I'm too lazy to mess with having the DVD's sent to me so I just don't bother. Now I can finally watch DS9 from start to finish.
YES YES YES!!!!
i was thinking of starting up just so that i could watch star trek movies by mail now and then, now that there's gonna be instant episodes i just can't wait!
Yeah - DS9 is the one series I have spotty knowledge of - so I will try to watch them in order via Netflix.
I saw this original announcement in Feb and they said early April so I have been really looking forward to this. Of course now I have to wait until July, but that's ok. I am really happy they are doing this.
I guess for now I will have to be happy watching the Twilight Zone seasons they have already put up.
I love Netflix!!!!
Lucky you lot...
I posted this to my facebook and now my wife is horrified.

Netflix is great. Setting it up from the UK is not difficult at all. PAYING for it is. I managed to get the free trial to work and loved it. When it came to paying for it they didn't like my UK paypal address :(
I could set up another account and another free trial but I don't want to defraud the company, I want to pay for it! :)
I hope they cone over here soon.
I can watch DS9 in entirety any time I want (or any Star Trek for that matter). You see there are these shiny little discs called DVDs. Isn't the future wonderful? :P

Some of us can't afford the entire series on DVD ;)

Streaming is the future. I'm not a collector, I like the content not the box of fancy packaging so if I can access thousands of movies and TV shows for a small monthly cost in the same or better quality than DVD it's a no brained for me!
Of course I like having the discs too and the season sets and full series sets have gotten to be pretty inexpensive. But it's also nice to have the convenience of just starting up an episode quickly via streaming. I still prefer the picture & sound quality of discs, but streaming is getting better. More options for people to watch these great shows is always a good thing.
It'll be interesting to see if we get them here in Canada at the same time you guys do.
i'll be getting TNG season 1 from the library any day now.
Question.. since I can't stream Netflix (stupid internet) Can you get the the DVD Extras as well or is it just the TV episode or movie?

Some extras, yes are on DVD and you can get. Some you can't. For example, when TNG first came out on DVD the season sets at Best Buy had a bonus disc of extra content. I don't see those on Netflix. Maybe something will be added in the future, but some bonus content is only available if you bought those sets when they came out.

So far, the only movie that I've bought a digital copy of that includes extras was Inception. I've not seen many shows that stream the extras. As far as Netflix streaming goes, I don't think that I've seen anything that has the extras in the stream.
i can't wait till july!
Yeah that would be a big turn off for me when it comes to streaming vs Blu-rays. To watch a movie streaming is fine but I'm one who loves to experience the movie, but watching it and then watching how it was made with all the extras.. so I'll continue to buy Blu-rays of shows I love.
I haven't ever rented Blu-Rays off Netflix, but with the added storage capacity more extras seem to be coming out for certain films on Blu-Ray. I know you can rent some of these extra discs on Netflix. But I'm not sure they stream those too.
This is freaking awesome!
Umm, so is there any reason for me to finish buying all the DS9 DVD's now?
i guess so! i just can't wait!!!!

Well, except that the extra discs are getting pulled from Netflix because content distributors want you to buy each and every movie you get. And then force you to watch the commercials every time you plug it in. Even if you own it. -_-....yeah....

Now this isn't the Star Trek shows but when I was checking out The babylon 5 shows it showed the extras as a disc only choice. The B5 movies are disk only as well. They would probably do that with Trek also. Thats ok by me because I can't afford all the dvd's so at least I'll be able to watch the shows. I hope the TOS one is the enhanced version.
Don't forget my USA buddies, Netflix has ALL TV TREK series (except the animated series) streaming starting today. 700 plus hours of Trekkie goodness! Now, who borrowed my iPad? ;)
Woo hoo! Now my kids can join the star trek vs. Dr who debates...
Woohoo!!!

Just a note, DS9 is not available until October if I remember correctly. (For streaming).

Times like this is when I wish I had better internet and that could substain streaming.. oh well I got my DVD's
I am so excited for this! I'm going to start with TNG. I am also finishing off my home theater and hooking up the surround sound as well as connection for my laptop so I can stream Netflix on my plasma screen. :)
Bryan, get a Roku box or something like that. Cheap and much easier to deal with than trying to stream off a laptop.

Looked at booth Apple TV and Roku this week. I also want to be able to stream live video content off the internet. Ironman and International Triathlon Union races are streamed live or on record from their web sites, so I need a system which has a browser. I'm getting a dvi to HDMI converter cable, a really long one so I can sit on the couch and control it. :)
You are going to have resolution issues trying to upscale off that laptop. Trust me brother, been there done that.

For the internet content for sure, and I accept that, but do you think for the Netflix? Apple TV is only $90 bucks, so I could easily do that as well.

All, I can say is probably yes. I'm not sure what laptop you have or resolution but it won't match the resolution of your plasma. Therefore it will try to force it to fit the screen. You may lose some picture at the top and bottom - possibly even the sides too. You also have to keep in mind in depends a lot on what type of video you have on your laptop. The problem right now is there is no perfect, one piece answer out there. I use a combination of TIVO, PS3, and direct feed off my PC, and that covers most things. All I can say is try it and see how it goes.

My vacation starts July 9 and the only place I'll be going is "Where No One Has Gone Before!!!! I'm going to watch a lot of Star Trek!!
TOS is the enhanced versions!! TNG is the only other series I found on Netflix. Which is fine I can't watch 5 series at once.
Found Voyager and Enterprise :archer also. Just needed to do a better search.

Yeah, the video ram is kinda weak to push HD to a big screen.
Yeah, that may be the case. I'm going to go the cheap route for now and see what it looks like. Getting Apple TV would be no problem.

get a used 360 from game stop. it's only 99.00 and there is an espn 3 app to stream espn and tons of programming. It relies on your cable provider to access it, but it's nice.
I have netflix, hulu+, and espn 3 though my xbox ... we're getting other stuff and live tv for xbox soon. They say that you'll be able to use it like a DVR.
TNG looks pretty bad to me. I'm using Apple TV. Enterprise looks great though.

Remember, TNG has not been remastered for HD (though rumored) so if your trying to push to HD, it is not going to look good, especially season 1. Plus, the series is old. (Though awesome!) :)

Ok, it looks like certain devices are having trouble streaming both Voyager and Enterprise. Devices like iPhones, iPads, PS3's, etc. I can stream Enterprise fine on my PC right now. I need to try my TIVO soon too. I'm guessing they are still working out the "bugs." Found this thread about some of the issues.

As far as picture quality, you need to keep in mind a few things. Streaming is compressed video and audio. In many cases depending on your setup, bandwidth, TV, etc. it might not look even as good as a DVD. Picture quality will vary quite a bit. I think you may find this especially to be true with TNG and also DS9. In a way, you might actually be better watching these on a smaller device like a, iPad, laptop, or PC with a smaller screen than a big, HDTV. Just some suggestions.
Thanks for posting that Rico. At least now I don't feel like I'm doing something wrong. With NetFlix anyway! :)
I watched TOS "The Doomsday Machine" on the netflix on my hdtv and it looked awesome!! I was running it through my PS3. I haven't tried the other series yet.
I'm REALLY looking forward to giving Voyager another try. I never really liked that series (easily my least favortie crew) when it aired and only watched sporadically so there's many episdoes I've never seen. I was getting errors when I tried to load the episodes but they seemed to have fixed it now. Netflix is so great!
Bah humbug ;)
No doubt we'll get this sort of facility in five years time.
Looks like Canada and a few other places will be getting some Trek streaming soon too.

Heh....the wife is about to go mental from all the Trek I've been watching via Netflix. I never really caught DS9 when it was on so I'm really looking forward to it becoming available to stream. A good time of the year for it too as snowy days were made for holding down the sofa and watching TV.
I'll have to watch it all when I turn my Netflix back on. I still haven't seen most of DS9 or Voyager and there's a lot of Enterprise I never got to see too.
Don't forget, all of the Trek series are now up for streaming on Netflix. DS9 and even the animated series too! Enjoy!!
Very nice that I can watch the animated series :). However, I'm only getting season 1 and part of season 2, isn't there 3 seasons to it?

How much is Netflix charging now? And is it now two services with that Quikstir or whatever? I've been so out of it since I deactivated my Netflix. I've had it off since July and I'm considering just cancelling now if prices have shot up so high. Much as I'd love to watch all the Star Trek series. I just don't think with my lack of time it would be worth it if the price has gone up a bunch.

Instant Streaming is $7.99 a month like it has been for a while now. DVDs are $7.99 + additional for Blu-Rays.
2 DVDs are $11.99
Streaming and 1 DVD at a time is $15.98
Streaming and 2 DVD is $19.98
Streaming and 3 DVDs is $23.
Streaming and 4 DVDs is $29
Additional DVDs cost some X amount of $$, not sure without checking.
Personally Dan, just get the instant streaming if you want Netflix again. Plenty of content right now, especially with Star Trek and your busy schedule will keep you busy enough :). It sure keeps mine busy.
King
I might just keep it deactivated till I move into my own place and then reconsider it all. I just know I'm gonna be busy all the way to November though and probably in November. To be honest though I haven't really missed Netflix, but it might be because I haven't had the time to stop and think about missing Netflix.

Watched Charlie X. Yeoman Rand looks really nice in HD in this episode!! Not many effects shots in this episode but one I haven't seen for a long time. I liked the 3D chess game Kirk and Spock were playing.
Really looking foward to the DS9. The wife said she would watch them with me since she never watched them with me when it aired.
Finally getting a re-watch of DS9. Haven't seen it since reruns stopped. I haven't seen an episode in 5 or 6 years. I forgot how slow the first 2 seasons were. I just started season 3. :)

Get the cheese to sickbay!!
I started with Voyager and then remembered I didn't really like Voyager. Too much new TV to watch anyway.
Haven't gotten through to many of the show yet but I did drop my cable down to basic so I'll have more time for Netflix and Star Trek. Watching the TOS and DS9. I was thinking of watching them in the order they first aired and decided I didn't want to wait to re-watch DS9. And the wife watched the DS9 premiere with me so we'll see if she sticks with it.
I'm enjoying catching up on DS9 now as I never caught it very often when it was first on. I see they also now have the 1st season of Warehouse 13 available via streaming. I've heard Rico talk about that one often enough that I'll give it a go as well. First episode seemed OK so far.
The wife has been sticking with me on DS9. We are up to the episode 'Move Along Home". If I remember correctly its one of the worst DS9's.

It's certainly...pretty unique.
"Move Along Home" still pretty bad. Just finished "Progress". Good episode and I enjoyed the b-story with Jake and Nog. I also got out my Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion and I have been reading each episode breakdown after I watch the episode.
I'm powering through Voyager right now. It's the only Star Trek series I've never completed only dropped in now and again. I'm in season 2. There was a nice group of about 4 good episodes in a row, so I'm waiting for the enivatable poop episode now.
Just finished Season 1 of DS9. Plan on starting season 2 soon but I need to get through more episodes of The Young Riders and I never got to see all of Stargate Universe so I'm watching the ones I missed. As far as season 1 goes of DS9 my favorite episode was "Duet" not much action but the acting was superb. Other favorites were "Captive Pursuit", "Foresaken" and "Emissary". Didn't care for "The Storyteller" or "Move Along Home".
Somewhere into season 2 and definitely by season 3 DS9 hits it's stride and becomes some of the best Trek you'll ever see.
