Coming to the SyFy channel in January. I'm there!
Syfy has debuted this new preview for "Helix," from executive producer Ron Moore ("Battlestar Galactica"). The sci-fi thriller premieres on Friday, January 10 at 10/9c.
"Helix" is an intense thriller about a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to a high-tech research facility in the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that may hold the key to mankind's salvation or total annihilation. However, the lethal threat is just the tip of the iceberg, and as the virus evolves, the chilling truth begins to unravel.
Billy Campbell stars as Dr. Alan Farragut, leader of the Centers for Disease Control outbreak field team called upon to investigate and control a potential "hot zone" at a remote Arctic research facility. Hiroyuki Sanada plays Dr. Hiroshi Hataki, director of the outpost and its mysterious viral research program. The show also stars Kyra Zagorsky as Dr. Julia Walker, Mark Ghanimé as Major Sergio Balleseros, Jordan Hayes as Dr. Sarah Jordan, Meegwun Fairbrother as Daniel Aerov, Catherine Lemieux as Dr. Doreen Boyle and Neil Napier as Dr. Peter Farragut.
P.S. I see a certain former Borg drone in the preview...

Hmmm, Andromeda Strain-like, but sounds promising.
Just watched the first set of episodes and enjoyed it. Good setup for things to come I think. Cast seems good and I like the remote setting. Some of it seems like things we have seen before, but I'll keep watching for now since I have faith in Ron Moore.
Yeah, I liked it. Jamie didn't but I think I will stick with it.
I thought I was watching the Prometheus movie again with all the black goo everywhere! :)
And the kind of ill advised safety protocols of some of these scientists!

Yeah. I'm hoping things get a bit more complex in the next couple of episodes. So far, the story looks like one we've seen before.
And highly trained professionals who at the first sign of trouble become knife wielding thugs!

Yeah, that is very silly! True scientists are frankly the most sensible, logical, patient people around. :)
I have the DVR set to grab the episodes - I'll give it a try.
Third episode was ok, but I'm finding the show predictable. Not quite sure about this Ron Moore effort.
Scientist behaving badly...
I have some 'alone time' this weekend, so might try to get caught up on this show.
Let us know what you think.
The wife & daughter going to Vermont to ski - my son doing a Scout weekend (I stay behind in case he needs help) - so I should be able to do a deep dive into this series starting Saturday.

Careful, you may find the creative waters a bit shallow. :)

That's right - no diving in the kiddie end of the pool.
I watched the first episode tonight. It seems ok, but I am not nuts about it. The ignoring safety protocols is annoying - but I'll keep at it. Especially since I got a glimpse of Jerri Ryan in one of the commercials.. :)
I am all caught up - and not too enthused. Andromeda Strain meets a bad Milla Jovovich movie (plot not her!). :)
I will keep watching.
Anyone else still watching this show? I just watched the most recent. Still not loving it, but still sticking to it at this point. I hope they wrap it in one season - unless 7 of 9 can breath some life into this (she still hasn't made her appearance) ...
I have dropped this one from my current viewing list. Just too much of things I've seen before, the characters aren't doing much for me, etc. Might catch up on it later if people say it gets more interesting.
I am barely hanging on...
Interesting thing is that I have a few friends at work that generally don't watch-like SciFI - but they are really into this show. I guess they haven't seen all the others shows we have, so for them this is a fresh experience.
..not to mention what sort of an impact Jeri Ryan will have on them..
every time I decide to drop it, a cliffhanger or reveal pulls me back in.
When the show does character stuff it's pretty good. When it does creepy, scary, boo moments it fails. What is so ill defined is the base and the illness. Sometimes the base feels like a haunted house with vast empty corridors with a few people struggling to survive but then we learn the base is lousy with scientist all hiding or something. Watching the charate rs wander around without a care in the world back when Peter was in the air vents was so odd, it ruined the supsense. And the virus seems to be all over the place in terms of what it does. Some people become super walkers while others just cough a lot. ????
I hope they don't try to keep this scare up for more than one season, and they have a solid end to season one (if there will be a season 2)
Last show may have done me in....
Watching a member of the CDC helping someone committ suicide, W.T.F.
Yeah it is getting tougher and tougher to suspend my disbelief.
That was a stretch. what got me was everyone throwing off their protective masks, etc
But it still surprises me how enthusiastic some of my work friends are for this show.
Tell me when 7 of 9 shows up. Maybe I'll try it again.

That's all I am waiting for!
Will do! The borg may be able to save this show.
More of the same this week, but the good news is it looks like a certain Borg will be showing up next episode... :)
I gave up on it, I wanted to like it. But I enjoy Face Off more.
Jerri Ryan helped boost my morale on this one, but not enough I think. She looked great, but this might not be enough to keep me watching.
Just more questions - no answers so far. Getting even more outlandish and far fetched.
Hang in there Pete! You might be the only one still watching this one. :)
Still more questions than answers:
Jeri Ryan's character gets killed - which I wasn't upset about. Even though she is great to look at, the character was awful.
I think I am good for one more show...then may abandon ship if some answers or movement don't start happening.
Yeah, I'm out! :)
I'm still in because of all the damned questions that keep popping up. This isn't a spoiler or anything because nothing is said or confirmed, but it looks almost like this might be an alien invasion with some of the throw away lines recently. Of course, they don't answer or ask that question, but this show has me thinking .. a lot.
Note that I did not say the show was good or worth watching, but I want the answers damn it.
Yeah, that is the only reason I have hung in so long...and Jeri Ryan..
Stilling hanging in here, but still not greatly enthused. A strong 'Resident Evil' vibe coming through.
Got a few answers to some questions, but still no real resolutions. 2 more shows in the season. Has anyone heard of this being renewed?
I think you are the only viewer they have! ;)
I feel too heavily invested to quit! :)
Also still watching and sort of enjoying it now
Wow! Something compelling and interesting actually happened this week in the seasons penultimate episode!
That was a tense scene when the explosives Hitoshi (sp?) was being forced to make a choice on who to save.
I don't care for that 16 year old looking immortal. Hope he gets his come-uppance soon.
The season wrapped this Friday, with come 'curve balls' thrown at us. I cannot help but think they are making this up as they go along. There is a promise for season 2. We'll see.
I wonder if the furore around Ebola will spur new interest in this program, and boost it's ratings - if there is a season 2 that is..
Season 2 starts on 1/16/2015. Anyone else planning on watching? I'll keep giving it a go I think.

You are a braver man then me. :)
I am not proud of it...but in for a penny, in for pound! :)
Couldn't pay me to come back and watch this show.
Wow! That is saying something when it comes from Rico! :) I feel like I am too heavily invested to jump ship. :)
Yeah, I know! Both this and "The Strain" I just couldn't handle or get into. The characters didn't grab me at all for both shows and "Helix" quickly just started to annoy me. I respect you for sticking with it Pete, but man I have to say I can't believe you watch this and not shows like "Arrow."
What's with them now being on a tropical island? People sick of the snow?
Any one else watch the first episode of the 2nd season?
Marginally better - but still strange and needs work.
I noticed the captain of that Frigate or Destroyer they are on - had enlisted mans insignia's on her collar. Not exactly a coast guard ship either..
Can't pay me to watch this. :)
Yeah, I was done with this like a year ago. Not for me.
I'm watching because I want answers for last season

Yeah, I watched the whole season last year, so feel like I am too heavily invested!
New episode last night. Lost meets Andromeda strain..
Some more twists, and more suspension of disbelief this week.
Still becoming more painful...
Pete - your tolerance to TV pain is most impressive! :)
This show is still on? ;)
Hard to believe!
Pete has a lot of pull over at SyFy. :)
I may try to get them to change the name back to SciFi..
Not a bad episode this week. The use of frivolous music in serious scenes is getting annoying - but I enjoyed this episode.
Just when I start to warm to this show, they do something stupid.
Show is taking a dark turn..getting a little better.
I remember those references in the show:
That 'jones-town' like mass suicide was pretty nasty. I remember that in the news when I was a kid. One of my friends father was a reporter with the congressman who was shot before that mass suicide. Friends father survived luckily.
Some action in this episode.
That beheading was something else.
Wonder why the coastguard captain has enlisted rank on her collar?
I can't look away!
I am thinking this show has gone totally 'tongue in cheek' - making fun of itself.

Come on Pete - I think it was always like that. :roflmao
Every stereo type being thrown in the ring - I am just waiting for lens flare..
I finally finished the latest episode. I am completely confused.
All of us were confused after two episodes. :)
The writers are having some kind of psychotic episode. :)
I know this will surprise and disappoint everyone:

Holy cow - I never saw that coming. Pete, you must have stopped watching. ;)
Now - just like the writers - I will never know where they were heading!! ;)
