Don't know if anyone is following Comic-Con, but some big news for comic fans was released today as Warner Bros announced the follow up to Man of Steel will be feature both Superman and Batman in the same film. No Christian Bale though, but It definitely has potential, especially if they've learned anything from Marvel/Disney.

Yeah I posted on the group FaceBook page today, this is cool!

Yeah, Meds. "Fans" suck! Let's complain about getting things that we want.
I like the idea. I think this will be a way for them to bring a new Batman/actor into the fold. I kind of doubt Batman will have a big role in the film. But it's a great way to create an 'Avengers' style franchise.
Zack Snyder has said that the Dark Knight Returns is sort of an inspiration for the movie. I'm guessing there will be a showdown between Bats and Supes before teaming up.
It would be a good idea to use the film as a stepping board to a Justice League film. I don't care if Bale isn't in it. It's the character that matters most and as long as the character is done right all will be well.
Kevin
A Batman and a Gotham a tad closer to the comics would be nice.
This is a well written article and I agree with much of what is said by the writer.

I'm mixed on the idea. It will probably still be awesome but I wouldn't mind another stand alone Supes movie. Of course it would be a quicker way for them to get into a Justice League movie without all the stand alones first. And maybe they think a Flash or Wonder Woman movie wouldn't do very well. Who knows, I guess we will see.
I heard about this and I thought as much as Marvel universe right now is kicking the crap out of DC and may continue being more prepared and making better movies why can't DC do the same? I think this is done right could be really good for DC. With how big Avengers is it's obvious people like Superheroes right now which is good for DC, cause most people who see Marvel movies will go watch DC movies. A Justice League movie may be competition, but it's the same audience who's gonna watch both. How cool would it be to see both Avengers and Justice League Universes making amazing content? I'm all for seeing DC heroes team up. I'm just hoping they do it well, it's probably a good sign that they are thinking about it now and planning it out. I really think both can succeed together. I don't know many only DC or only Marvel fans out there.
One more thing too I forgot to say. The only reason the Marvel movies are getting a lot more credit is because they are actually good. Too many poor quality DC films, but a lot of people I know couldn't tell you who was DC or who was Marvel. Maybe a little, but some people I know don't even know Avengers is Marvel. They could care less, they just want to see good superhero movies. I only know the difference cause I am around you all too much ;)
Some actor names getting tossed around for the new Batman. The comments after this story also mention Karl Urban. I think Karl would be a great Batman/Bruce Wayne. I could also see Josh Brolin too (as the story mentions). I like the idea of a slightly older Batman.

Latest rumor mill stuff is awesome. The big name being tossed around for Lex Luthor is Bryan Cranston! Holy crap, he would own it as Lex! He IS the danger!
He has my vote too! What an awesome Lex he would make.
They say he is the one that WB wants, he may be a little old but who cares. Breaking Bad back this weekend!

It would seem that over the years, Marvel has done better at the movies and DC has had more success with TV shows. One of my all-time favorite superhero TV shows is "The Flash" with John Wesley Shipp.
Really begs the question even more of why reboot Batman in this sequel if you get a Brian Cranston? Just dumb.

The Flash is coming back next year after the character appears on Arrow.
I agree Bryan, I really get a funny feeling that they are shoving alot of stuff into this next Superman movie.
I get the impression that the studios must be a little disappointed with what, $650M?
Yeah, what a bomb right? This is why the current Hollywood model is going to implode on itself.

When compared to an Ironman or Avengers or Batman, al of which went north of $1B globally, yes, that is a failure of sorts. When you have the most iconic superhero of all time expectations are going to be absurd. I agree the implosion of the event, $1B box office film is nigh, but MOS wasn't as strong as those other films either.
So it's Ben Affleck playing Batman. Already I've read people moaning, really get a grip. The key is Bruce Wayne, you need an actor who can pull off a good Wayne and he can. Look at Argo and Runner Runner both different roles and he pulls it off.
Any one can put a cowl on but you need someone (like Keaton) who can do both.
He's a good enough actor, he's got some age, and hopefully he won't growl like a junkyard dog when he is Batman. I'm on board.
I can't get past the whole 'Bennifer' thing.. ;)
But I am not a series fan, so my opinion doesn't really come into it.
I like the idea. An unknown would have been fine in my view but Affleck can act and looks the part too. He was pumped up in "The Town" so I can buy him as Batman. They should take this chance to also show how smart Bruce is too. That is his real power. He is a master detective and tactician.
Huh. Well, I like him well enough, I think he is a serviceable actor. I think genre fans are likely feeling burned as his one foray into the superhero world was a mixed bag based on what i have heard, I never saw Daredevil. I associate him as being more a dramatic actor with a touch of comedic flare, not that that would preclude from being dark and brooding and Bat-like. In a more cosmic view, this choice appears to be a vieled attempt by DC to bait a wider audience into this franchise which sort of reinforces my theory that they are a little unsure about Superman. The film was met with decidedly mixed feelings, decent box office, OK reviews. By suddenly trying to throw batman into the mix, it seemed like a hail Mary to build early hype but also spoke somewhat to a little anxiety as to weather or not Caville's Superman could carry the next film on his own. I think he can, but they decide to throw in batman and now a Ben Affleck Batman. I don't know, just spit balling, but that's what it looks like to me.
None of that matters much if he does a good job and they have a good script. I myself have always thought Affleck is much more talented and skilled and smart than many give him credit for.
No it doesn't matter to the finish product and I didn't knock Affleck. I am addressing what appears to be the marketing strategy of DC.
Can't take credit for this, it was posted over on the RPF, but thought it was funny.
"WB Exec 1: Now, for the casting of Batman, should we stretch ourselves, take a creative risk, and choose a slightly older actor with the acting chops to pull off a Superman vs. Batman conforntation—an actor that isn't so well-known that it will be difficult for fans to associate him with this iconic role?
WB Exec 2: Hmmm...nah, let's just call Ben Affleck.
[sigh]"
In a way, this idea has been a long time coming given how much stronger Batman's box office draw has kept up over the years versus Superman's.
Now let's just see if DC's preternatural ability to screw anything up that doesn't involve a bat is stronger than the Bat-luck.
I can say as a more casula fan of both franchises, I would have rather seen a Man of Steel 2 featuring a Lex Luthor villan and a seperate reboot of Batman. This mix up doesn't move the needle of interest for me.
I think you are still going to get a Luthor based story.
I agree with previous comments that Affleck would make a great Bruce Wayne but I'm not certain we'll see a lot of Bruce Wayne in this movie. I also agree that Affleck is stronger in more comedic roles, his overall acting is rather bland and one note...remember he was shut out of the best actor category for his film Argo even as it was nominated in practically every other category. I think there was probably good reason for that. All that aside, I can see him doing well in this role. I've liked him far more than I've disliked him in films, especially in his early Kevin Smith movies like Chasing Amy, which is up there (somewhere) as one of my favorite movies of all time. Also really good in The Town, and I didn't hate him as Jack Ryan in Sum of All Fears either. Daredevil was just a mistake on many levels, but none of them lay at the feet of Affleck in my opinion. A bad script, terrible portrayal of the Kingpin (sorry MCD but you sucked in that, RIP anyway) are the major problems with that movie. I am really looking forward to this movie, and hope the excitement over Batman being in it doesn't backfire and overshadow the fact that this is really still Man of Steel 2.
Saw this earlier. Says it all really.
First World problems, all of us! Here's a photoshopped pic of him in the cowl. i lke. AND there's heavy rumors saying that Bryan Cranston INDEED will be announced as Lex Luthor. Nobody can hate on that, can they??
In this day of age, some cretin will moan.
No, Bryan Cranston is perfect. :)
Lol oh Bryan Dunn I love you ;)
Is the rumour of Cranston taking the Luthor role just because he had a shiny head in Breaking Bad? If so then it could just as well be Patrick Stewart in Shatner ( see what I did there )
I see what you did there. Cranston can also play chilling and funny in the same character and I think he will own that role.
I really like the choice of Affleck for the role. Not much else to say.
I find it ironic Wil Wheaton tweeted what he did considering his résumé consists of one good film (stand by me) & playing THE most irritating role in a franchised tv series (TNG). I'm sure Affleck dreams of making YouTube TV shorts and getting excited about the latest D&D game.

Here's an exclusive look at some early costumes tests with Affleck. I don't see why everyone is so worked up?

It IS odd when an actor who hasn't achieved a level of success in many years downs another actor...comes off like jealousy, even if he is just a fan.
Digging the fro on Robin...that Batsuit looks more like a devil suit though. Not sure I'm on board with this reboot.
LOL Rico!
I thought Affleck gave a very subdued, nuanced performance in "Argo", I would think the bodes well for his Bruce Wayne.
Here's and oldie but wow - affleck really got into character here
That's a really good film where he plays George Reeves, the TV Superman. Called: "Hollywoodland."
Game, set, match Affleck.

Michigan is getting the Man of Steel and the Caped Crusader.
The upcoming Superman-Batman movie has been approved for the state's film incentives, the Michigan Film Office announced today.
The Warner Bros. film featuring the two biggest superheroes of DC Comics expects to begin shooting in metro Detroit and elsewhere in Michigan sometime in the first three months of 2014.
The movie, informally known as the untitled "Man of Steel" sequel, has been approved for $35 million in incentives on an anticipated $131 million of in-state spending.
That would represent a higher percentage of spending for the incentives awarded than Disney's "Oz the Great and Powerful," which was filmed in Pontiac's Michigan Motion Picture Studios in 2011. The origin story of Oz's wizard had a projected spending of roughly $105 million and was awarded nearly $40 million in incentives.
The movie, which will star Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman, expects to hire 406 Michigan workers. The MFO also said it would use about 500 Michigan vendors and spend $5.1 million on local hotels.
Good idea. Maybe Superman can knock down some old buildings in Detroit. They won't want me for an extra, but maybe a stand-in for Cavill (Supes) - hehe. :)
You would be an awesome stand in, Rico! :)
Pretty nice balance of views in this video from IGN with most saying, give Ben (and Peace) a chance.

New rumors, beside the one that says Wonder Woman will make her debut in this film, are saying that Dick Grayson will also be along, but not as Robin, but as Nightwing. I hope this is true...Nightwing is my #3 fave character after Supes and Bats...should be cool.

Newest rumor has it that Joaquin Phoenix may be up for Lexy in the Supes/Bats flick. I can see it, his villain in Gladiator was really odious!
And they are rewriting the script...

The movie has been pushed back to June 2016...that 2015 slate WAS getting pretty ridiculous anyway.
Actually the summer of 2015 is getting lighter and lighter now. No Star Wars, no Supes/Bats. Just Avengers now as the other monster movie. I wonder if the fact that winter in Michigan is nasty this year (where they are filming most of this) has anything to do with the move? Might be slowing things down on pre-production. Besides they are still casting this thing.
The new Batmobile...probably..... :batman

Cool...but I am having trouble still getting past BA.. ;)

Right there with you Meds. I'm actually not only just ok about it - I'm happy about it. I think he is actually a good actor and he can do action too. He has been in some great stuff and he is also becoming a top notch director which means he really knows film. I'm hoping for a slightly less broody Batman than Mr. Bale (even though I did like him a lot).

Gee, you think? ;) Kind of on the nose.
I still think having this not come out until 2016 is too long. Heck, we will have Episode 7 and the next Avengers film before this - maybe even the next Trek movie! I thought Superman was super fast? :)
Good point, Rico. Too long to wait and have it open the same day as Captain America 3? Probably not a good move. And yes he is supposed to be super fast. I also think it should be Superman v Batman: Dawn of Justice.
Batman ...Superman , Really Cheesh :)

So looking forward to it, rather disgusted in some of the social media comments regarding Affleck, give the bloke a far crack of the whip.
Well, DC moved the release date of the film up to March 25, 2016 from May. So now it won't compete with the Cap 3 movie in May. Cool!

This is coming out next month! I am looking forward to it and I think it will be a good one. But I did find something that for me I don't like what they are doing. They are making an R-rated version for the Blu-ray release. Why?? I do know why $$$$$$. But I don't need my Superhero movies to be R. I know Deadpool is raking it in but that's Deadpool and most if not all of his comics are for mature readers. I could be wrong but I don't recall a Superman comic being for mature readers. Well I hope that PG-13 version will still be released also. It looks like it will be. Well here is an article I found with the news.

Yeah, it's a bit of a money grab. But, I personally will be interested in what they might add to make it an "R" rating. Usually violence alone won't do that these days. Interesting turn of events.
A batman VS Superman movie for real? huh....Aren't they both good guys and i think were good with Batman & Superman movies for maybe another 50 years.
