Looks interesting.

I think these fan productions are the only way we are going to get Trek on "television" these days and when they are well produced they are very enjoyable. I wish them luck.

Geez, how old would Chekov be by this time??? It looks different, and having these Trek actors helps alot.

Well Bones from TOS popped up on TNG and he was older than Chekov - so it's quite possible.  Lifespans for humans are quite a bit longer.  Based on the timing, Chekov would only be in his low 100's or so.

One more day to help them reach their new Kickstarter goal for this project.  They already reached their first goal of $200K.  More info below:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/145553614/star-trek-renegades (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/145553614/star-trek-renegades)

We have one more day to raise these stretch funds. Our Kickstarter drive ends at 4:21 am PST early Monday morning. These extra funds mean we can make our production even better - more and better sets, better props, costumes, makeup design, VFX - the list is endless.

If you have already supported our project, we are ever grateful. If not, we please check out our Kickstarter page. If you are unable, you can always spread the word - tell your friends, tweet us, post us on facebook - whatever you can do to get the word out there!

Tim Russ (Tuvok in Voyager) has signed on to direct Renegades.

The role of Captain Lexxa Singh will be played by Adrienne Wilkinson (Xena: Warrior Princess, Star Wars: The Clone Wars).

The Renegades' antagonist in the film, Borrada, will be played by Trek veteran J.G. Hertzler (Martok, DS9; Koval, Of Gods and Men)

Also currently in the cast are Walter Koenig (Chekov, Original Series), Tim Russ, Gary Graham (Alien Nation; Soval, Enterprise), Garrett Wang (Harry Kim, Voyager), Robert Picardo (the holodoctor, Voyager), Ethan Phillips (Neelix, Voyager), Manu Intiraymi (Icheb, Voyager), Richard Herd (Admiral Paris, Voyager), Edward Furlong (Terminator 2: Judgement Day), Larissa Gomes (Saw VI, Saw 3D), actress/stunt performer Tarah Paige (Make It or Break It, Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Courtney Peldon (Entourage, Home Improvement), Corin Nemec (Stargate Sg-1), Monica Keena (Dawson's Creek) and Vic Mignogna (Star Trek Continues, Dragonball Z).

It seems to me that these talented people could be doing something more productive with their time and money. I don't see how a Star Trek project can help any of them at this point of their careers. Of God's and Men wasn't all that good and although this looks to be visually better I have my reservations.

Well, here's an idea...  Maybe they just enjoy it, want to have some fun and make a cool little film for their fans.

I'm going to have to second Rico on that one. What's more productive with your time or money than doing something that you enjoy doing? I mean they aren't going to strap you in a chair like A Clockwork Orange and force you to watch it. Maybe I'm a bit less cynical, but perhaps this isn't about their careers in any way?

I'm not saying that every fan project out there needs to be loved and adored, but how about we give these people doing them the benefit of the doubt that it's with good intentions?

Well said Chris.  I agree - not everything in life needs to be about your career or the profit involved.

I don't know when you became the arbiter of what Tim Russ, Walter Koenig et al are doing with their personal time. Plus, it's always great when you do a labor love and people shit on it sight unseen. I guess if you've ever worked on anything for zero money gain that you put out for people to enjoy you might have a little more insight.

To say that there is no money made is actually not the truth. They even state on their site that according to the "actors guild" they have to pay actors salary. They somehow are able to say it's not for profit but it's kind of a loophole in my opinion. People, especially actors, do not work for free. There are lots of people making some money off this project. They have raised well over 100,000 dollars in one campaign and I don't know how much in the other because I just don't care enough to look.

Typically the actors would be paid some type of a scale wage for something like this and most of the funds raised go into the sets, props, production costs, post production CGI, web distribution, etc.  CBS/Paramount pays very close attention to "fan" productions and will not allow "lots of people" to profit from this.  However Kevin, I feel strongly you are way off base in your comments so far.  I have seen most of these actors at conventions and met many in person (including Walter Koenig, who is a very intelligent and sweet man).  Most of them genuinely care about "Star Trek" and the fans and very much enjoy working on projects like this based on what I have heard them say over the years.  If you don't care for it, that's your choice - don't watch it.  But please do not presume to say what these people should or should not be doing with their time or careers.

I can't understand why all of a sudden the need to feel to slap me down. I clearly stated "It seems to me" and "I don't see how" etc. It's just my opinion, and me voicing my thoughts, and was not meant to offend, but clearly some people are overly sensitive about the topic. I didn't know that we all have to agree on the site to get along. Sheesh people! Chill out! Forgive me for having an opinion that differs from yours!  :o

Fair enough Kevin.  But you do seem to be pretty negative on projects like this and other topics/films early on in the process.  I think it makes some of us wonder why you even bother watching them.

Fair enough Kevin.  But you do seem to be pretty negative on projects like this and other topics/films early on in the process.  I think it makes some of us wonder why you even bother watching them.

My negativity on this project comes from mostly two reasons.

1. Tim Russ's execution and story telling in "Of Gods and Men" was not very good. The Cawley films have been far better stories and more entertaining in my opinion. So when I say I have my "reservations" it's just that. I will likely check out the final product.

2.. The thing that bothers me most is what seems to me as an exploitation of the fan base by "professionals". For me it's one thing for a "fan film" to be made, produced, and executed by "fans". It's a whole other thing for "professionals" to make a so-called "fan" film when what they are really doing is using the fan base in hopes of pitching an ongoing series. Renegades is not a "fan film". It is a professionally made pilot using fan money to do so. I personally would feel better about financially supporting (and I have) a fan film made by fans (Exeter, New Voyages, Intrepid etc.), than I would feel good about supporting a professionally made production that uses the fans to do so. I'm not saying that Koenig, Russ, Herd etc. do not appreciate Star Trek and what it has done for their careers but it looks more like actors who haven't worked much in recent years trying to land a permanent gig and using that fanbase to do so. Anyway, I hope that makes things more clear.

I do recall being very positive about the new Godzilla film. I may not like the casting choices for the upcoming Justice League but that's mostly because of me not being able to stand Ben Affleck. As for fan films like New Voyages, Exeter, Intrepid Farragut etc. I have always been supportive and positive. I rarely ever accept movies uncritically like some fans I know who are excited by about anything if it even seems geeky. And sometimes it takes me a while to come around and sometimes more than one viewing to actually like a film. I still don't like Into Darkness, Man of Steel, Wolverine, The Unexpected Journey, The Dark Knight Rises even after several viewings. In my opinion none of them are great films. They are all mediocre at best. My favorite film of last year would have to be the last Thor film. It was quite fun. In any case as Popeye would say "I ams what I ams". :)

I really have wanted to see Gravity but my wife has said she won't go because it looks too scary for her (I love the Alien films but she won't watch them with me). I don't like going to movies alone and I don't have any friends interested in going with me. It looks awesome from what I can tell. Maybe on Christmas I'll have my wife go to a kids films while I go see Gravity. We'll see how things go but thanks for the reminder Rico!

That looks good. I'm very anxious to see this. I have always had a soft spot for Voyager and it's awesome to see Tim with the ears on again.

My take on all the fan films, whether they are total fan productions or have some involvement of 'the pros', is that at least we are getting Star Trek.
I would trade the movies in a second, if we could get a Star Trek on TV.  With all the shows I am enjoying now, like Arrow, Falling Skies, Dr Who, etc, I would love to see a Star Trek in the mix. TV has matured so much since the 60's, or even the 90's, Trek would be a great addition to a network schedule.

It would be great to see a Trek show done weekly, with the kind of story arcs and character development like we see on shows like BSG, Mad Men, Falling Skies, Arrow and so on.

Yeesh. That was, I dunno. The color pallette on the design seems just...off. What the heck is with all of the yellow, on the bridge of the Archer and in Chekov's office?

Koenig, great. Cool to see Chekov. Makeup was pretty good. I didn't even know that was Sean Young. I just...I dunno.
