Hey everybody! Rick and I had so much fun doing the "Saga of a Star World" Treks in Sci-Fi episode, we decided to do a podcast covering the original Battlestar Galactica. We are going to watch each episode together and comment on it. It's pretty informal and lots of fun. We would also like to invite others to jump in for an episode and comment along with us. Our first podcast will be out on Monday, September 17th, which is the 34th anniversary of the original airing of "Saga of a Star World".
Our website is http://ragtagfugitivepodcast.com (http://ragtagfugitivepodcast.com) , and we are on iTunes and Stitcher.
It'll be fun, you have our words as warriors!
:cylon
Looking forward to your guys podcast, can never be enough classic Battlestar :)
I'm in.
Excited!
That's awesome!
Mark you better be guest hosting with us for an episode or two! :)
I'm so there!
Sounds good! I'll be listening.
Awesome! Great idea guys!
Interestingly, this is exactly how my podcast started. I did my last guest spot on TSF and the idea for the UMBCast hit me. Rico is like our podcasting muse.
That is exactly right, Rico the podcast Muse. Love it.
First episode is up!

Totally love this podcast. Listened on Tuesday and can;t wait for more. Great commentary, funny banter and Ricks internet freezing and having to fast forward added to the fun. Great work guys.
I'm looking forward to seeing how much of the series I remember. I love it when it was on and used to re-run it my head when I got bored in school!
Awesome Joe! I didn't want to look it up! Lol! Glad you liked it Meds, which one are you going to guest host with us? Mike, you too... And yes I used to play them back in my head too! Lol!

I have no access to BSG bar buying them i'm afraid so I don't think i will be able to join in on any podcasts which is a shame.
Where there is a will, there is way. I will take care of you. SO pick and episode, and we will make sure you can see it.

I just downloaded ep two today.
Locked and loaded.
Ugh. I hate those ladies faces. They creep me out, Rick. We're gonna have to get together on these pictures! ;p
hahaha, it don't matter where you go, it don't matter what you do, cause someone's always after you!
I just listen to ep 2 yesterday. this is fun podcast to listen too. I tweeted to rick about ep2 yesterday. I am learning things about the series that I had not known before. Like Cassiopeia being a facilitator, that was a new one on me. I always liked the Athena character myself, that starbuck was a really player. lol. I do remember reading in TV guide how the daggets were trained chimps in a costume. how they did that was always amazing.
Listened to ep 2 today and again loved the podcast. great work guys. PS Still can't believe they used monkeys.
Good second ep!
I'm thinking they were robot monkeys. :D
Those are some smart monkeys. I can't get my kids to behave that well.
Thanks all!
yeah, thanks! Wait till you hear our first guest host episode... awesome.
You know...this podcast is fun! At first I thought you needed to raise the volumn of the show but now...not so sure. I kind of like having it just loud enough to barely hear, so we can hear you guys chat and goof on it! :) I"m looking forward to my guest spot!! :)
Third show is out... part 3 of Saga of a Star World! ROCKIN!

Here it is, the third episode of the Ragtag Fugitive Podcast! This time we are on the final part of the pilot episode known at Saga of a Star World part 3. We have a great time talking about some behind the scenes facts, what our opinion of the show is and Boltar's hair. Join us and relive old school Battlestar Galactica! Woot.

oh man, coolest gift! I got this as an early bday present from a good friend, looks like some model building is in my near future!

Hey Chris and Rick, I just listend to pocast ep3 just a couple a days ago. the pocast has really been great so far, I'm really looking forward to the future cast. especially to some of my faves like experiment in Terra, and a few others. one thing I kept hearing about is where all of these other alien races came from. I also wander how and where the other planets of the other humans came from like on Terra or the one with the farmers and the wearwolf like raiders, and the one where the cylon was been used as a gun sling-er. hey don't these people know about the clyon threat?

With our Guest Host: AMY MOYER!
Join us as we listen to the Lost Planet of the Gods part 1 of Battlestar Galactica. Amy Moyer, Rick's wife joins to talk about Serena (Jane Seymour) and shares her perspective on this two part episode! ENJOY!
Loving the show, guys. :)
Finally got around to listening to this and I'm loving it :)
I re watched the entire BSG and 1980 run a couple of years ago and really enjoyed reliving it.
Thanks everyone. It is a blast. What a great series that is a lot of fun to talk about.
I find it hard not to digress from the TV show, which is becoming more and more apparent. ADD and me!
I need to watch this again although its apparent from the podcast that I can still remember quite a lot of it.
I just listen to ep 4 last night. great podcast, look forward to part two of the episode. having Amy moyer as your co host was great too. I am always learing someting new about the series each time I listen. I love your comments about how the ladies were dressed in the show, that was a whole different era back then. I still remember the featherd hair that was popular too.
I do remember that Cassiopeia was a med tech, but I was not sure what she was before she became a medteck, the facilitator was a new one to me. I think she may have trained to be a med tech before a facilitator, i think she chose facilitator because there is more money in it. lol.
Socialator, although I guess they could be called facilitators... ;)
Thanks for the nice comments!

Hey guys, I have been so far behind on this podcast but I am catching up and loving it!
I'm glad you guys like it!
Hi rick and Chris, I just listen to podcast 7 the lost warrior last night, great podcast as usually guys. i still remember seeing this ep when it first aired. the whole ep was reminisced of a western and the twins folk were like the Barbey coast I think. I loved the kid who played pupace, what a name pupace right? I wonder if he when on to do other movies or TV shows, I think his hair may have been dyed blonde, but not sure. I always wondered where these planets of other humans came from, are they lost collies of man or what. do they know of the Colon threat? why doesn't the galiticla evacuate those people on those planets? well I look forward to the next ep. thanks guys.
Thanks so much Redshirt... yeah, I often wonder... how come the cylons just don't go to each M class planet and wipe out any humans they find?

yes my point in a nutsell. we will see more eps like this to come.
Found a source for these so I'm trying to watch in advance of the episodes if I can.
From your comment on the podcast, I think I disagree with you Rick. Redeye froze his eye just before firing but I always put that down to a malfunction following the crash. Normally, I think they point and shoot as much as anyone else.
It was only the frozen eye that gave Apollo a chance to beat him but (looking at it now) the whole quick-draw thing was ridiculous. If it had been me I'd have shot the Cylon as it came through the door. That would have guaranteed a victory.

I always wondered where these planets of other humans came from, are they lost collies of man or what. ... ... why doesn't the galiticla evacuate those people on those planets?
My take on this was always that these planets were effectively seeded by the flight of the lost thirteenth tribe as they headed out to Earth. The theory is somewhat weakened by the fact that Collonial Martin managed to crash on one of these planets that should have been well away from the colonies but I guess I can live with it.
As to why the Galactica never picked them up, I think that with the rag-tag fleet as crowded as it was, they simply wouldn't have had anywhere to put them. My question would be more along the lines of why the fleet never left anyone behind on these planets.
When it comes to space travel logic in BSG TOS, the less questions, the better. Definitely a space opera more than true sci-fi.

that is some good thoughts on the groups of humans found along the way. they were essualy lost collies not affiliated with the colony's of man. they seemed to be well out of the way of the cylon threat too. Yes I am sure that there was too many of them for the ragtag fleet to take in. so I'm sure they were left to there own survival.
I just listen to podcat 7 on the lost patrol last night. great podcast. I have have preferred Athena over Cassiopeia. the french braid girl was cute too. I think she might have been a mission control-er for NASA. I liked the fact that the inhabits of the prison spoke with these lirsh or British accents. I think it was done to give the viewer a sense of they were a bunch of roughs or pirates.

No way! Athena is way hotter than Cassiopeia.
I always liked Cassie more then Athena. :ohbaby
I probably should know this but what's the release schedule on these? Once a month or every two weeks?
wow! it looks like i got something started between which is hotter Cassiopeia or Athena with no comments on the french braid girl. did anyone think she was hot or just cute?

I knew you were cool, Bryan.
It's every two weeks at the moment. So far we have stayed on schedule, which can be challenging due to our time difference.
On the most recent show covering "The Long Patrol" I heard Rick ask about the gold little canisters on the warriors gun belt. Those are recharge canisters meant to be used to recharge/load the blasters in universe. My functioning Richard Coyle blaster came with three of these he made as well. :biggrin
I want that! Pretty awesome!

It also has a really nice and loud sound card built in to make the correct firing sound. :) It's cast from an original screen used blaster from the show.
Must have cost a pretty cubit!

He's done a few runs of these over the years. They are pretty much the best and closest replica you can get to the actual prop. If memory serves they go for $450.
drool! SO AMAZING! Thanks for sharing Bryan!
Ok, Bryan, That blaster is REALLY bad-ass!
I think I've said it before but those blasters were the ones I had (in my imagination) in all the stories I ran for myself as a kid. (Actually, before BSG it was the Space 1999 guns but once these beauties came along then I planned to be armed with nothing else once I hit the space lanes.)
One of my biggest irrational disappointments with the new BSG was the lack of the blasters (and helmets) from the classic series.

Me too, Mike. When I was a kid playing Starbuck, I sort of fashioned one from a Luger cap pistol, which had a similar shape and added a thicker barrel using a cardboard toilet paper roll tube and a crap ton on black duct tape! Then I had a cool, low slung cowboy holster with an elastic strap on my leg. The topper was I had an actual Colonial Warriors jacket that my parents let me order from the back of Starlog magazine. It was the best!
Oh how cool Bryan!
I envy the imagination you all had when kids. I always wanted a blaster, but never had the creativity or the thought to make my own.
The new episode is up with Rick Peete as our co host, SO FUN! Gun on Ice Planet Zero part 1... and a Battlestar Galactica Christmas song....
http://www.ragtagfugitivepodcast.com (http://www.ragtagfugitivepodcast.com)
Great. I watched this last week against a Christmas release, just so I could be prepared :)
Thanks.
Just listen to the podcast last night, great podcast. loved the 12 days of adama music parody. I still remember watching this episode when it first aired. It was like the dirty dozen meets the guns of Navarro. I think the ep was inspired by that movie. Yes all those persons picked from the prison barge were actors from other TV shows and movies and I did recognize most of them right off.
so glad you enjoyed it! http://startrekparodies.com/?p=752 (http://startrekparodies.com/?p=752) here is the song for download!
The ninth episode is out and soooo fun! Gun on Ice Planet Zero part 2!

so glad you enjoyed it Joe!
Yeah, had a lot of fun doing the last couple. Kinda getting in a groove now!
Great job guys.
Thanks Pete!
I just listen to part 2 of the ep on the gun on ice planet zero. great podcast guys. I remember the units of time they used in the show. I recall Apollo once saying that he lost a centairs pay or something like that in a Casio on one of the ships in the fleet. that was in another ep though. can"t wait for the next one to be put on the feed.
Hey, thanks for the kind words!
Thanks so much! You know, this podcast has been fairly easy to do other than the crazy schedule and coordinating, but even that isn't so bad. I have to say I am so glad that Chris is co-hosting. I'm really enjoying his friendship, and each time we do an episode we laugh and have a blast. It's so fun to geek out with others.

I just listen to ep 10 last night, good job guys. I still remember watching this one when it first aired. I certainly reonized Bret Summers from machgame TV show. I used to watch it when I came home form school. Again I bring up the question where did all these humans came from on thees other planets and why have they not heard of the cyclons? I agree with the statement made by chirs (i think it was) that maybe the basestar came by and wiped them all out. just like Ben cartwright sons when there woman gets killed.
hehheehe. Thanks Red
I hear your next guest host is kind of a dork :)
yeah, but he's a fun dork. So it could get interesting. Plus it has a Robot with purple lips, a guy with feathers and a girl in a sports bra. How could we go wrong?

I'm not going to argue with any of that.
Just watched it in preparation. I really don't remember that story from the original run. All I WA thinking was 'Who made the winged hat?'.
I look forward to the coverage.
Ah yes, the winged hat of leadership. It gives +2 to petulance.
Actually, having now seen his hairstyle at the end of the episode I can sort of understand why he wore the hat!

Hey Rick and Chirs, I just listen to ep 11 the young lords. I saw it would a first aired on TV. I think I enjoyed the ep well enough. I remember them singing the silly song but I still can't remember the words though. The actress was great to look at, at the time I didn't know what a sports bra was lol. I think the castle was some set in the back lot they shot the scenes at, not some actual location. I am 47 also and I like exposions and things blowing up too. lol.
haahaha, awesome Red. Thanks so much for listening.
Yeah, this was a fun one to goof on. Straight up classic coming up next.

Time for another new episode "The Living Legend, part 1", covering the first of arguably the 2 best of the series. Had fun with Mark and Rick!
Also, found this trailer that Richard Hatch used to try and sell a new Galactica series in 1999. Even with the low-res effects, I'd be into it. Used to make the rounds at conventions with it.

Hi Rick and Chris, I just listen to the podcast for ragtag last night. the living legion pt 1. great podcast, I still remember seeing this one on TV. Loyd Bridges was a very fine actor and I think he was right for the part. That angle in which he was simply a older version of Starbuck was a new one to me and I never thought of it. I like toward the end when Batar was ready to attack the glactla and the cyclon tells him what about the other battle star and baltar say what other battle star?! well waiting on pt2 will keep me in actipation instead of one week we will have two lol. one last thing, do any of you remember a movie called Mission Galatica: A cylon attack? well it was made for TV movie that simply had both eps edited together and made to a feather length movie.
hehehe. Thanks Red. Ask Chris about the cool poster he picked up.

I'm really enjoying the podcast guys. I hope you keep it up and go ahead and do G1980 and then maybe Buck Rogers.
A couple bits of trivia for you...
Bruce Glover, who played the dad in "The Young Lords", is the father of Crispen Glover who, of course, played Michael J Fox's dad in "Back to the Future". He as also Mr. Wint in "Diamonds are Forever". And that segues into another piece of Bond trivia. Barry Nelson, who played the mayor (or whatever) in "Magnificent Warriors" was the very first James Bond in a 1950's tv production of "Casino Royale".
Keep up the good work, guys!

FIRE IN SPACE!
Hi Rick and Chris, I just listen to Fire in Space last night. great podcast. I thought that Rick made a great point about this ep as a there take on disaster films of the 70's. that was something I didn't think about. I do think that Lorne Green must have been in every disaster movie every made, bushy eyebrow's and all lol. 8) I thought the ep was OK, not a fave of mine either. I do look forward to the next one, the end of the season gets closer to some of my faves.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, but it was my electrifying co host that pointed out the disaster parallels. Chris rocks. :) lol

I just listen to ragtaged last night. great podcast, I still remember seeing this one when I was a kid. I remember my dad asking me what the count said after he threatened Apollo, he ask me if he had said something about the Fourth of July. it wasn't until latter I was able to understand what he said. Also when my mom saw the prymid players she remarked how those guys were running around in there jockey shorts or someting like that. lol! I did however thought it was neat how the electronic devices would go haywire when he was around. I look forward to pt2.

Join Pete Foltz, our guest host, Chris and me for a CRAZY review of this 2nd part of "War of the Gods part 2– come hear me oink like a pig and find out what Count Ibli's name really means.
I've just caught up on the last episode so I need to make time to watch this before jumping on board for the new one. Even after all these years and with all its flaws I still love this series.
Once again, lots of fun! Thanks for including me gents. Wish I could do some more with you.
The big reveal in that picture...Iblis is in reality a sleestak.. ;)
No, he's a little piggy!
I bet Sheba was sorry she was gettin cozy with that.
Ok...a Pigstak..Hogstak..
I liked oinking every time we saw that image.
I read this morning over on the BSG wiki about this episode and the missing scene featuring the dead demon body found in the wreckage. I never knew about that, I had always assumed the ship was the Pegasus and the body they didn't want Sheba to see was her Dad! I figured Count Iblis tried to scam them and Cain and crew fought back and they crashed the ship in the ensuing battle. I kind of like my version better. :)
That does make more sense. Why else would they not want Sheeba - a veteran pilot & soldier - to see what is in the wreckage? Surely she has seen bodies before.
Hey Rick and Chris, I just listen to the podcast the other night. Pt2 really rocked. The best podcast so far if not one of the best ep. I never knew what Count Iibi meant. When I first saw the scene in which he changes into a demon, I thought that was scary as all get out lol. I had always thought what was in the wreakage but I never thought it was Cain or the pegues crew. Why would it be them? Oh yes the balls of light reminded me of the foo fighters that WW2 pilots encountered.

I just listen to ep 18 last night. great podcast, I still rembrer watching this one for the first time. it is good episode. I don't think that we ever see those Klingon's I mean again or what ever they were called with there door knob grenades lol. I believe that was the only ep that we see them. I think it would have been neat if they remade that ep in the new series and had Dirk Benedict play the father.
We do see them in one more episode, the one where Baltar escapes. Thank so much for listening!!!
Great job guys. You gingerly danced around this great episode.....
Rogers that!
Like you I loved Fred Astaire - especially his appearance on the Rankin & Bass 'Santa Claus Is Coming To Town'. I think he did one more move after this BSG appearance - he was in a ghost story of sorts with none other than John Houseman! Now that was really great.
how cool Pete. By the way welcome to the over 3000 club. :)

Hi Rick and Chris, I just listen to the podcast yesterday. Great podcast, I'm glad that you got Jen to co-host. I still remember seeing that ep on TV back in the day. I always thought it was good ep of the series. the who dunits were always popular around the same period. I do want to also point out that there was homage to the ep in the new BSG. One ep has Adama allowing the colonial President to barrow one of his Dectivite novels. the title was Murder on the Rising Star. When I heard him say that, I almost fell out of my chair.
Thats so cool Red
Looking forward to this one - will listen on Wednesday. I recall seeing this episode on TV (B&W) back in the day.
Enjoyed the cast immensely - as usual. Jen was a great co-host, and I was digging the Land of The Lost theme song. 'Enik' is the name of the uber-sleestak...
It's a shame that the show will come to a natural end. I really hope the Galactica 1980 episode you're considering covering is The Return Of Starbuck. Love that one.
I am pretty sure that will be the one, it's the one episode that I actually enjoyed. As I said in the podcast, I want to find a way to do some more shows after we end the season. It's just gotten more and more fun.
How about covering Space:1999 episodes - or sticking to campy Scifi shows. :) I would love to help out on those.
Yeah, that's something. Maybe reconfigure to cover older cheesy sci-fi shows. That could work.

Buck Rogers, Space: 1999, UFO, Star Maidens, Logan's Run (TV), and Irwin Allen had a host of shows - land of the giants, time tunnel. I won't even mention Ultra Man or Johnny Socko - the japanese TV shows.
nice
Liked this one and I've now caught up on the rewatch too.
Jen worked well although I don't know what mood you other two guys were in! ;)
Next come a few of my favourites since, if I'm not mistaken, we're reaching the point where the Eastern Alliance come into play aren't we? I remember them as featuring in a whole run of episodes but I'ts probably only one or two.

That's the one. For some reason it's the part of the series that always stands out to me, maybe because we get to see the results of the development of not one, but two threads of humanity as the series went on.
What I didn't remember was that we seemed to drop the Cylons behind as we moved into different areas. To make that sort of transition in the first series was a pretty brave move in some senses.
You are right about that - typically that would be a new series foray. I recall the submarine like feel inside the Alliance ship.
The new episode is up and running!!!

Did they actually go to Canada to shot those sceas, I didn't think they had the budget to do so, most of it I am sure went to effects.

Hi Rick and Chis. I have justed listen to Batlrs escape and to Emperment in Terror. Great podcast on both. I think I the thing I like best about Balters escape is that it was all about Baltar but he never escaped. everone but him if I recall correctly. Now the council of 12 was not going to let the father of there genocide leave on short notice right? lol. but I do believe that I future ep, Baltar will get released on some conditions. I think I remember reading an interview on John Ciollious that there might have been some relationship between him and Amama. Like he could have been half brother or something, that's why he was never executed.
Experiment in terror was one of my favorites of the series. I really like the whole cold war thing they were doing. just shows how much the series was a product of the cold war. When they found this word, I thought they were closer to getting to Earth. but it was just another of those planets they had other humans on it that the Cylons didn't know about. well they used up all their nukes so I guess the Eastern Alliance and the the other guys are in for a really time once the clyons get there.
