So I recently bought a Blue Yeti USB microphone (which I used for the Battletech podcast I recently did). One thing I noticed was that I was getting a decent amount of sound transmitted through the desk that the mic was sitting on using the stock-supplied stand that came with the mic.
So I'm thinking of picking up the Blue Radius Shock mount for the mic (http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Radius-Shockmount-Yeti-Pro/dp/B005DVF15A (http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Radius-Shockmount-Yeti-Pro/dp/B005DVF15A)) which I understand will minimize sounds transmitted into the mic via the desk/stand.
It seems that I'll need a new stand a well (since the shock mount won't fit in the Yeti stand), any recommendations on a half decent affordable mic stand? Probably something that either sits on the desk or clamps on to it.
I have tried two different kinds so far. I did read an article on reducing noise in the studio and believe it or not they reccomended not using a desk mount. Nthey said the best results by far are with a stand alone boom mic stand. Like this:

We use the Yeti's for our podcasts as well, and did run into that issue at first. So, what we did was to "build" microphone tables. I bought two lap top tables from an office supply story (Staples), they're on rolling frames, and then I set the mic's on like 1/4 cork board to help absorb the sound. That way, the mics aren't on the desk with the computer, and pick up very little sound. Oh, there's still a tiny bit of noise but not even noticable. The two stands cost about $60 total (I think they were about $30 each) and they work pretty well. If money is not really an object, then go for the shock mount and stand. But that's kind of an investment...
Rick, the Yeti's are kind of on the heavy side, not sure if the boom stand alone would support it?
According to Amazon's site, the Yeti is 4.4 lbs, though I imagine that includes the somewhat heavy stand.

but I worry since the mic is a bit heavy it wouldn't be very stable (especially if I wanted to put it at an angle). I like the idea of a swivel mount so I could just move it aside when not in use.
Though the full on floor stands seem a bit more flexible and cheaper. I can just fold up an put it in the closet.

haha yeah, I'm leaning more to the floor stand now since I can set it up wherever in the house since any recording I do is on my MacBook, not my desktop. I may not want to be tied to my cluttered desk :)

Thats what we use on waffle on, i did think of getting a stand and having the mic hanging down weight is a problem. Ilike the idea of the cork board Al. Think i may try that.

The cork works pretty well to dampen vibrations, etc. Plus, I bought a panel of the soundproofing foam rubber, cut it into three sections about 2.5 feet wide by about 18 inches tall, glued them to metal book ends then create a sound proofing station for both the mics (mine on my stand, Joyce's on hers). I finally got the "echo" challenge figured out (dropped the gain on Joyce's mic and boosted the volume level in GarageBand), so our set up works very nice now!
Tweaking, tweaking, tweaking! Seems like a never ending game :)
