The last several weeks I've been thinking about the podcast a lot. I've done it pretty much weekly for a very long time. Starting next month (Jan. - 2012) I'm going to an every other week schedule (or about twice a month). This will leave about two open weeks a month. My hope is that most months I can pencil someone in to guest host on at least one of those weeks. But, if not that will be ok too. I just find time is tight these days and I need to somehow get more of it. If anyone has a big, blue police box out there - I could use it! Anyway, my hope is to try some new stuff out, maybe slip a little informal minicast in or video from time to time. Or even work on the many other ideas and projects I've been wanting to tackle. So, I hope all of you will understand and stick with me. I'm kind of excited by this and I think it may allow more of you to participate and do some podcasts for all of us to hear. I really do enjoy those. Thanks everyone for the support.
Got no problems with that Rico.
Being somebody who does an irregular podcast and struggling to find time to put one out every six weeks or so I can't imagine how much time you guys that have weekly shows have to commit and I totally admire you for having done it for so long!
Looking forward to hearing what your ideas for Treks In SciFi - The Next Generation! :)
Frankly I have been awed by your consistency in carrying on for so long. Twice monthly sounds good to me - as long as we have out community here on the forum. :)
Totally understand and I am totally bummed. But that's purely me being selfish as I love the cast and the content. I can only imagine what a challenge it is to do it on a weekly basis as you have for so long. But you so deserve to take some of that time back and travel new roads. What if I promise to keep my shirt on? ;)
Rico,
I think that's a great idea. It's been wonderful to listen to you and everyone who has done guest podcasts. You gotta do what's good for you. I am in full support! ;D
@ Bryancd You wouldn't be you if you kept your shirt on! ;D

treks in sci fi has been going on so consistently for so long, if anyone deserves a break it's you. it's a great idea and as long as we still have our friends on the forum, it's fine by me :)
Perfectly understand. It only took us about 2 or 3 months before we dropped the weekly podcast format for every 2 weeks...and even that seemed too much at times.
Slacker. ;) strewth I mean come on its easy.
Lol totally understand mate, you've done a bang on job producing a show a week. Will jump in as a guest host whenever I can.
Sounds good to me.. it's always amazed me that folks could do a weekly podcast and hold a full time job. I hope these eases things a bit on you.
Thanks for the support guys. It means a lot to me. Start thinking about doing some guest spots. I'll have two coming up in January which is only a month away!
Good for you Rico, hopefully it allows you some more time to do other things with your weekend.
Sounds good to me, was surprised you managed to keep going for as long as you did! :)
King
Perfectly understandable and as my listening time seems about to take a bit of a hit, I'm sure I'll cope :) (Of course, TrekSF will always be the last podcast I'll drop if it comes to serious load shedding!)
Pete and I have been threatening to get together and record something, maybe this will be the motivation we need to get moving on it.
I completely understand, Rico. Your podcast has been the start of my workweek for a couple of years now. I've enjoyed your podcast immensely. Every other week is better than no TreksinScifi.
Quality is better than quantity 10 out of 10 times. When time becomes a premium, it's understandable to reduced the frequency to insure the quality. I think that you are making a great choice to put the quality of the show first.
No worries at all Rico, I can plug one of those off weeks in Jan or Feb if you'd like too.

Plan for early Feb. Joe. Thanks!

Got it! Thanks Dave for the help. Probably use it in Jan.
I'm actually surprised you have kept up with doing the podcast weekly for as long as you have. It's quite an accomplishment. I certainly understand why you would want to cut back and support your decision to do so.
Kevin
MY thoughts on this are like everybody else's in that you do have to put in alot of time on these and I certainly understand in you wanting to go to a every other week cast. At least we will still have treksinscifi for our listening entertainment just not every week. I hope you get to do the other things you want to do.
I have a suggestion - as you have been doing these excellent podcasts for so long you have a ton of material to draw from. If you are stuck for a week how about posting an older "Treks In Sci-Fi Gold" to the podcast feed - one of your own favourite previous shows. I don't expect subscribers would be too upset having something they may have forgotten being downloaded to their media device.
Regardless if you like the idea of repeats or not, thank you so much for all your hard work. I find it hard enough to blog every couple of weeks - the fact you do all this multimedia magic, have a family and a full-time job astounds me.
There are tons of people you've inspired to do their own podcasts and I tend to enjoy their guest casts too. If Vartok steps in to do more sci-fi music podcasts I certainly will not be complaining!
Anyway I'll be staying subscribed regardless of the schedule. Some months I can hardly keep up and binge on three in a row anyway :0)
I hope you find the time you need without that Blue Box. Though who knows, perhaps you'll stumble upon one the Master has left behind... disguised as an Apple Store or something.
Good idea Paul on the TSF - Gold - or classic podcast episode rerun. I probably will sprinkle one or two of those in when I can. :)
I have a idea for a guest episode if you will let me slip in the Caps chair. Can't do it until next month though.

You are always welcome to guest host Meds! Plan on towards the third weekend or so in Feb. or early March.
Cheers mate. Will have a look at the subject matter and email you tomorrow. Need to watch the episodes as well.

If it involves 'The Man Who Would Be King' - or any other Kipling-esque stuff - count me in. :)
'Are you a traveling man?'
Pete thats going to be a waffle on. My Rico podcast will be about a short lived tv series.

Fox?
I like the rerun idea. I know there are lot of ones from before 2008 I have never heard.

You mean you didn't go back to episode 1 when you found the podcast? ;)
I'd quite like to hear a few of the older casts too. I'm not going to run through the back catalogue again on my own but there's a lot of good stuff in there that I wouldn't mind reprising if they pop up in the feed.
Good plan!
That's be fun, maybe just restart from ep 1 and increment through the back catalog whenever there isn't a guest host available.
I'm totally behind you on this. Thanks for all you work. Still catching up on previous and looking forward to new one's. Maybe I'll try my try my hand at this (hmmm).
