Title: Batman - Arkham City
Post by: Jobydrone on October 19, 2011, 10:27:44 AM
I went out to the midnight launch event at my local Gamestop Monday night to pick up my copy of Batman - Arkham City.  (I won a limited edition poster in a drawing yay!) Normally I don't pre-order games but I made an exception for this one.  The original Arkham Asylum was one of my favorite games of 2009, only edged out of the top spot because Mass Effect 2 released the same year.  The first Batman game on current generation hardware was the first superhero video game to ever truly make you feel like the superhero you were playing as.  Pretty much anything you would want to do as Batman is possible in the game.

Now the sequel has been released, and they have improved on every aspect of the game that was so good originally.  More gadgets, more combat options, better steath techniques, more open spaces to explore...to let you know how much I am enjoying tooling around the open world environments of this game...I have played for about five hours now, and have probably experienced about 1/2 hour of the actual main storyline.  There's so much to do, find, fight, and experience it's more fun just zipping around the world with the Batclaw (a zipline device that lets you fly up buildings as fast as Superman) than it is to follow the actual story you are presented with.

Comic book and "Lost" scribe Paul Dini has once again provided a top notch script, and Batman - The Animated Series actors Kevin Conroy reprise their roles as Batman and the Joker respectively, doing a great job as usual with the characters.  This game is non stop fun and the reason to own a current generation video game console.

Sounds cool Joby.  I have the first Arkham but never seem to find time to play it much.  Send in an audio review/comment for the podcast sometime.

I'm loving this game, got it at a £10 discount and also received a t-shirt and issue 1 of the Arkham City comic.

I'm about 5% in to it and its great. I got the catwoman add on as well :)

Did you finish the main story yet Meds?  I went through the main story pretty fast but still have quite a few of the side missions left to do, and about half of the Riddler challenges.  I am thinking I might download the skins and finish up in the classic 70's Batman outfit, bacause even with all the movies, TV shows, and comics that came since the 70s, that's really how I picture Batman should always be dressed.

No not finished yet, I only get to play on the xbox for about 30 mins a night due to looking after the little one etc. I'm doing quite well on the riddler challenges though i plan on going back after i complete the game. Do you have to pay for the downloads? the 70's Bat suit would be awesome to see.

I'm sure there's a cost involved.  I haven't been on Xbox live to check though because I've been avoiding a forced patch for Skyrim that breaks the game. Until that issue is resolved I won't be connecting my Xbox to the Internet.

Yeah, there is. I think you can get all of the downloads, the Batsuits and the Robin and Nightwing chalenges for 15 bucks in one download. The suits are cool. I got a free downloaded sui, the Batman Inc. Suit. It's pretty nice.
