Don't forget, the new ongoing "Star Trek" comic book series starts today with issue #1. This series is set in the "JJ/Trek universe" and will also work in some familiar TOS tales. A definite addition to my comic reading list!

Picked this up today!! I have it on my pull list at my local comic shop. I had 4 on my pull list today but this was the one I was waiting for the most. When I went into the shop today he saw me come in and he grabbed my books and he help up the Star Trek one. And I said awesome! And he said I thought you would like that. I also picked up a 52 title as well. I went out with 5 today and I mostly only get up to 3. Can't wait to dig into them!
Read this today and was 100% not impressed at all. It makes so little sense that I'm actually annoyed by it.

IDW is pretty well known as a comics publisher. They currently hold the licences to Trek, Gi Joe, Ghostbusters, and the Transformers.
Very nice cover! I might give this new series a shot but they will probably release it in a trade volume eventually and I'd rather have that than the individual comics.
Kevin
I agree with you Kevin, think I will wait for the trade volume as well. I find it easier to get those then to chase individual comics.

IDW has been putting out some really good "Star Trek" comics for years now. Along with other properties. The average person has really no idea how many comic book publishers are out there. Marvel & DC are the big boys, but there are hundreds of others out there too. IDW is one of the bigger, secondary players.

I misread who was the publisher and thought the store was the publisher. Derp. I've heard of IDW as they did the Star Trek comics a while back, but its really that bad X?

Yeah, it's a retelling of a trek episode, but doesn't make sense because they are in the enterprise decades earlier than they would have been. I think it's lazy storytelling and basically nothing new. They are telling an old story and slapping new faces on it and it doesn't work or seem fresh.
I really enjoyed it. They are going to have original stories too. Of course I'm just glad there is a new Trek comic.

You probably won't like this series then. They are planning on retelling some other classic TOS tales too.

Yeah, it doesn't work for me. Kirk is too young for these events to be playing out exactly like they did in the Prime universe. I was hoping for some creativity. Now if it was the Cage with Kirk instead of Pike, I'd like that.
I read the first issue and enjoyed it. The art was really well done too. I always loved that story anyway. As far as I know, they are not only doing remakes of old episodes. Keep in mind this is an "alternate universe." So anything can pretty much happen in anyway they want.
I thought it was good. I imagine alot of the audience for this hasn't ever seen the TOS episode this is based on and from that viewpoint I think it was well done. The first reveal of Gary with his powers is eerie and my favorite panel. Alot of my problems with the story are actually carried over from the new movie itself...like Spock and Uhura as a couple. I don't think I'll ever get used to that.
Good point Joby about many won't know this story anyway. Should be fun for them!

I went back and looked at that panel of Gary and I see what you mean. The Spock/Uhura thing doesn't really bug me since it is in an alternate universe. Looking foward to issue 2.
Haven't had the chance to read this yet but picked up #2 on Wed. I enjoyed the 1st issue so I think this one will be enjoyable as well. Check out the #2 cover.
This newest issue only served to annoy me further. It was very lazy that the included Delta Vega and ignore that it was already used in the film. It was a very lazy port of the episode.
Well, I suppose it could be like city or street names on Earth. There might be more than one planet named Delta Vega.
Here is the new Star Trek comic starting the alternate universe telling of "The Galileo Seven".
I just picked up the first three in ComiXology on my iPad (they had a sale going on the first one, and I decided what the hey, I'll pick up the other two), and these stories are fresh with this reselling. I enjoyed seeing the JJ TOS crew with the old TOS stories. Hope they get to do City on the Edge of Forever, that was always one of my favorites in the original series.
BJ
Issue #4 is due out today.
i saw these at the game shop today!
I have to say, IDW has done a bang-up job on Star Trek comics. The Alien Spotlight series is one of my favorite reads, and the John Byrne series are great. This new series is pretty neat, I would like to see more original story ideas though.
They will be doing some original stories to lead up to the movie in 2013. I don't know how early they will start it but they have plenty of time to figure it out. Still need to read both parts of The Galileo Seven books. I hope to catch up this weekend.
Well, I'm certainly interested to see where they go with original stories and what the kernels of infor for ST '13 are.
I need to get caught up on reading this series but I have gotten behind on most of my reading lately. Here are the last 2 issues of this series covering Operation: Annihilate. Issue #6 just came out on Leap Day.
I need to get that latest issue. Even though they are altering these original TOS stories somewhat, I hope they start some completely original tales soon.
According to Memory Alpha here are the next 3 books.
#7 - Vendetta Conspiracy - Part 1 - 3-21-12
#8 - Vendetta Conspiracy - Part 2 - 4-18-12
#9 - Return of the Archons - Part 1 - May 2012
So unless I missed an episode of TOS it looks like we got us an original 2 parter coming our way!!!!!
The latest issue of Star Trek does start a original story. I believe it will only be 2 issues long. I did have the wrong title listed. It is called "Vulcan's Vengeance". Check out this cool cover with Spock, Sarek & Nero.
I picked that issue up yesterday too. Haven't had chance to read it yet. Glad they are doing some new stories now.
I'm a little behind on this series but I did pick of the newest issue last week. The one they had in my box was messed up and they didn't have any extra copies!!! Oh, well. I'll bag and board it and see if that will fix it. Here is a pic of the issue.
Issue #9 should be out Wed. I also found out that starting in July there will be another original story called "The Truth About Tribbles." That should be a fun story.
Just picked this up today. The cover is a of people that won a contest. It is the CBLDF contest winners. Coarey Trim protects Mike Brodeur of Fantasy Shop, St. Charles, Missouri. It is cover B. The contest was you had to send in why your comic shop wa the best place to get your comics and the winner got to be on the cover of the comic with the person who runs the shop. Pretty cool idea.
This starts the 2 part "Return of the Archons."
I got caught up on this series up to issue #8. Going to try and read "The Return of the Archons" this weekend.
Vulcan's Vengeance was a good original stoy. It wasn't an original story but "Operation: Annihilate" was even better.
Star Trek #5 - Operation: Annihilate - part 1 - 9.
Star Trek #6 - Operation: Annihilate - part 2 - 9.
Star Trek #7 - Vulcan's Vengeance - part 1 - 8.
Star Trek #8 - Vulcan's Vengeance - part 2 - 9.
Here is a pic of #10.
After issue #10 there are 2 original stories starting. The next one is issues #11 & 12 with "The Truth About Tribbles" and that will be followed up by "The Redshirt's Tale". It will be from the point of view of a 'Redshirt'. I think these both sound like they will be interesting and fun!
There is a new limited series coming out in September based on STNG and the Borg. Rico posted a pic of the #1 cover on a Trek daily pic but I wanted to post it again along with a variant cover. Looks like this could be pretty cool with Brannon Braga writing it.
#12 came out Wed. I hope you are still enjoying the series. I like Rico's pic of the day today with some new Trek covers.

You can buy them digitally too at only $1.99 an issue. Only the currently monthly issue is full price, previous all drop in price. Same for the Who crossover series too.

There is one trade out for the new series. You can probably order it at your comic shop. You could probably get it from Amazon also but give your money to the comic shop guy. He needs it more.
If there were any comic shops left in my vicinity I sure would. There used to be one around the corner from my house, and my comic budget was about 60 bucks a week...so, slowing down was necessary. There are great deals on Amazon for the IDW books, and there are some great ones.
There is a Vol. 2 out as well for the ongoing series. Vol. 3 hits Nov. 7. The STNG/Doctor Who Vol. 1 is supposed to be out this month!
Also STNG: Hive hits on Sept. 19. This should be a good series!
Picked up Hive and #13 on Wed. #13 was very good and haven't read Hive yet but I will before the weekend is over.
#13 - 9. This issue didn't have a title.
Just read Hive #1. Really enjoyed this first issue of the mini-series. Great art and a cool story idea.
Ooh forgot about the new TNG series. Is this limited or ongoing? Hope it's not sold out!
Edit to add: min series must mean limited lol n/m that Q
Just read issue #13 of the ongoing monthly series featuring the redshirt "cupcake" that beat up on Kirk in the bar in Iowa in the movie. Great issue!

Yeah, I really liked this issue ans I still didn't get to Hive yet! I need to read that.
I picked up #14 last week and still haven't read it yet but it should be another good one.
Here is Hive #2 which was released last week even though it was supposed to be out in October. #3 was set to come out this week to catch up on the releases I guess. I haven't picked up my books this week so I'll see if it came out later today. Pretty cool cover. Like how the Borg Queen and Seven are standing to each side of Picard.
3 did not release thisweek. I really liked 1 but haven't read 2 yet.
I saw it on one of the release calenders but you can never go by those as 100% accurate. And I'm fine with that because if my Star Trek Magazine came in this week I'm already dropping down some decent dough at the comic shop. A little less will make the wife happier.
oh.. need to pick up the new TNG comic.. I love the Borg
OMG.. just found out that there are 10 different covers for issue #1 of TNG's Hive comic book.

Here is the cover for issue #1 of the prequel mini-series to the upcoming movie. It's coming out in Jan. It is called 'Countdown to Darkness' and has an awesome cover. Looking foward to reading this series.
Well, I'm guessing the 9 min. preview and trailer in December will finally let the cat out of the bag on the story so hopefully this comic series can actually gives us some more background.

I really would like to get that Newspaper stripes book. $50 though might be a little to steep.
Here are the latest issues of the Stat Trek titles. #15 of the ongoing series featuring the mirror universe. And STNG/Doctor Who #8 with an awesome cover. And last but not least Hive #3. The Hive issue I got has Cover B featuring Captain Picard on the front which I thought was pretty cool. I still don't have #7 of the STNG/Who book because somehow he didn't get enough or never got them at all at the comic shop so he ordered it for me which he said would be in the week after Christmas.
Check out these awesome covers.
I picked up issue #16 of the ongoing series last week which finishes the 2 part Mirrored series. Starting with issue #17 the series will have stand alone issues that focuses on the never-been-seen origins of the Enterprise crew in the new movie timeline. They will start with Bones then Uhura followed by Scotty. So far those are the only ones I could find. This will lead right up to the new movie in May.
Here is Mirrored Part 2. The covers on these Star Trek comics has been awesome. I think this one just says "Mess with me, if you dare!"
Countdown to Darkness #1 came out today!! Should be a fun 4 parter. I picked up cover B. Love it. Here is a pic of covers A & B. B is the movie poster.
That's so wierd, on Amazon it still says it's being released in April?
It is. They are releasing the trade in april, but the single issues monthly starting now.
I see that now.
I read the first prequel issue and discuss it a little on today's podcast but kept it spoiler free.

Yep, I just read the first issue. Good fun, though. (Good luck, JJ, keeping SW Ep VII info underwraps. :)
So, in issue 2, what do you think about
April saying he commanded a different Enterprise 20 years earlier? I know it's an alternate track and all...but still. Kinda weird that all of a sudden there's a proto-Enterprise between NX-01 and 1701. Also, he mentioned his XO MArcus...familiar name. Cool stuff.
In regards to the above...
It makes perfect sense to me. Robert April was Captain of the Enterprise before Kirk and before Pike. He was shown in an animated series episode. The only real difference here is it's a different Enterprise. Not really a big deal at all. Couple other interesting things here is it appears the father of Carol Marcus was April's first officer. And of course the fun little tidbit that now it appears Harry Mudd is a woman in the 'JJ-verse.' So would that make her, Harriet Mudd?
I should add I have zero expectations that these new movies can/should/will have anything to do with the previous stuff. There is no canon I feel they need to adhere to.
And apparently she's Bajoran?!
Yep, exactly. They can do pretty much whatever they want in the 'JJ-verse.' :)
First issue of the comics to pick up after STID:
War breaks out across the stars as the Klingon and Romulan Empires fight for supremacy, with the Enterprise caught in the middle! Don't miss this epic all-new story set after the events of the blockbuster movie STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, overseen by STAR TREK writer/producer Roberto Orci!
Actually the last issue I picked up (#21) already picks up "after darkness" and started a riff on the "Amok Time" story.
Ah, OK. I haven't gotten it yet.
These comics seen to be a lot more original and interesting than the movie. Weird.

Actually, not really. Most of this issues of this series so far have retold classic TOS stories again and again. Gary Seven, Galileo Seven, Amok Time, just to name a few. Even now that the movie is out they are doing Amok Time again. I've read all the issues so far and for some reason they keep doing the old stories over and over. I'm hoping some of this Klingon stuff will be new.

Here is another list I check out alot. Very good site I think. Doesn't give a timeline or anything but lists all the different series and shows each cover made for each issue.
http://startrekcomics.info/ (http://startrekcomics.info/)
Also finally caught up on my Trek comics including reading the Countdown to Darkness mini-series. Which was really good. Also do any of you recall in the Scotty issue #19 there was a rubiks cube on his stand by his bed when he was a kid.
A far as the Countdown to Darkness series goes
Robert April does mention Mudd's father when the are on the bridge after taking over the ship. And this is not a big tie in by any means but I do like the connections they do make with April's 1st Officer and the mission they are going on at the end.
Also that Khan book is like what they did with Nero after the 2009 movie. Should be an interesting series.
Try this site also. I go to the other one more but this one is pretty good too. Lots of info.
