that was a good show. :)
Monday can't come fast enough. :)
The Carbon Creek episode was easy to sync and watch with Rico's commentary.
I was surprised T'mer helped with the mine rescue after that look she gave Mestral.
I liked Ann Cusack as Maggie
The actor that played Mestral (J. Paul Boehmer) looked really familiar to me. I looked him on IMDB and he has been in several episodes of Star Trek. He was the Borg Drone in the Voyager episode Drone. He played a Nazi SS officer in the Voyager episode The Killing Game Parts I & II and Enterprise episodes Zero Hour and Storm Front. He was also a a Cardassian in the Deep Space Nine episode Tacking Into the Wind.
Great show Rico.
Love hearing commentary episodes and what a great idea to sync them up Davekill! I must try that sometime. It always saddens me when you cover an Enterprise episode as it reminds me that the show ended before it's time. I loved that series... :(

Yeah, I should have mentioned some of that. He's a big guy and looks sort of alien in a way to start with so I can see why they would use him. He's really good in this episode.
The past few weeks have been amazing. "Carbon Creek" is one of my absolute favorite Enterprise episodes. I remember my friend Eric and I being very excited when it originally aired. What I love about it is that it's a period piece without involving a time travel contrivance (IMHO, Enterprise was too mired in time travel). The historical touch-points were great and it was dramatically potent.
Watching Vulcans experience 1950's Earth was a hoot. I love the way Mestral delivers the line, "'I Love Lucy' is on tonight." Rico, it was cool that you connected that with DesiLu. Lucille Ball kept doing those permutations of "The Lucy Show" to keep the studio alive. Because of that, we gained "Star Trek". We owe her a debt of gratitude.
The episode also brought up something many have wanted to point out — the Vulcan hairstyle. That stylized "bowl cut" does hearken back to Moe Howard of The Three Stooges.
Dramatically, what marked the episode was the T'mir's transformation. After the captain's death, she became the de facto leader. However, it was Mestral who decided to venture into human culture and explore it. As a result, the Vulcans were able to contribute to the lives they touched. T'mir, who opposed Mestral at just about every step, ended up performing a compassionate act by finding a way to contribute to Jack's education (the conceit that a Vulcan gave us velcro was a stroke of genius). She continues that by creating a cover story that allows Mestral to remain on Earth. Then at the end of the episode, we see with her pulling out the handbag — her physical and (dare I mention) emotional connection to this bit of pre-Federation history.
A wonderful story and a wonderful podcast. Thanks Rico and all who contributed.
As a Vulcan fan, I have to say, this is one of my all time favorite Vulcan episodes. Thanks for covering it. I'd give it a 5 out of 5. Great episode, listener comments and music (as always) from Mr "Parody McSing-Sing", Rick Moyer.

I prefer to call Rick Mr. "Singer McParodyPants"
I agree with the rest, Great Job Rico. I enjoyed this Episode, it was a nice story, that left you feeling good at the end due to some of the nice things the Vulcans did.
Mr. "Singer McParodyPants"?
Really? :roflmao
hehehe. no comment.
by the way, great job on the cast Rico.
Glad everyone enjoyed the podcast. A cool episode to watch and talk about. Another point in favor of Enterprise as a really good series.
Just listened to this this week and really enjoyed it. I also liked Enterprise and I do think this has to be a top ten episode for the Enterprise series. Great job as always on the show Rico and another cool song. I really liked how you did that one Rick.
Thanks man. It was fun to break it up a bit!
HI Rico, I listend to podcast 348 yesterday. great podcast as usual. That was a indeed a great episode of enterprise, i think it may be one of my favorites. I loved the opening scene where we see Sputnik crossing the path of the Vulcan ship, I thought that was kind of neat. It was intersresting to see how Vulcan's had contract with humans long before frsist contact in Bozman MT. My take on that part of Tu"pls story that it did happen but perhaps she exzaterated some of the story. I think that the one Vulcan did stay behind and studied human culture. but he was latter picked up before official first contact. I think the Vulcan's were studying and monitoring human culture for a long time and knew when to appear when warp drive was accomplished. It was like Captin Archer has said all along, the Vulcan know a lot and have been keeping secrets.

You bring up an interesting point. There have been other Trek episodes where the Federation sent operatives to observe pre-industrial and pre-warp civilizations, so why wouldn't the Vulcans have done the same thing. Granted their "superior" attitude (as well as their sense of logic), it's conceivable that the Vulcans would keep a great deal of information to themselves. However, for the Vulcans to retrieve Mistral, someone would have had to admit to the deception.
When I first saw the episode, I actually thought that T'Pol could have been T'mir, given her emphasis on the fact that she was telling a story — that added an air of mystery to the tale.
It's the apparent loose ends that add another interesting layer to the episode.

Yes I spoouse it could have been T'pol had acculay been there but how old do vulcan live? but surly it was an ancestior like she said in the story. but the part of mistral living on earth for a long while thur the last half of the the 20th centery was intruing to me. He would have withness a lot of history and many sciitific developments thur out the years. What kind of friends with the humans would he have made? Did he ever tell anyone who he was and where he was from. if so who?
I got to the point where I settled on believing that it was truly T'Pol's ancestress and that it was merely an episode to feature Jolene Blalock and Vulcans. The Mistral story is one that we're going to have to tell in our imaginations. Perhaps someone will write fan fiction on it, if they haven't done so already. :-)

Yes i think so here, the mistral part of the story is indeed somthing to leave to the imagaination. Fan fiction sounds like an intersting idea too.
I Love this Episode!!! Thanks Rico for reviewing it!!!!!
