Title: My Farnsworth Project
Post by: Rico on August 24, 2011, 04:01:19 PM
Well, I am getting back to prop building and I'm in the early stages of collecting up the parts for building a "Warehouse 13" Farnsworth comm unit.  I got the gold fly box today from the UK from the Richard Wheatley Company.  I had the brass plate for like a year now from a run of the on the RPF.  I also have big lens around here - somewhere.  I'll try to post pics as I progress.

Think of it as FaceTime with no need of wifi/3G in black and white.  Very cool on Warehouse 13 :)

A startlingly accurate description!

I'm looking forward to getting going on this.  I need to order the other parts I need and some electronics.  I plan on having it make the "tone/ringing" signal seen on the TV series too.

I know the fun part is making this but out of interest, does anybody sell these?

Qmx did a small run of non-functioning Farnsworth's and has just recently added a working version (lights/sound) for $400.  Oh, and if you have the coin, you can also order a Tesla gun for a cool $1195.  :)

Wow!!

Precisely.  I do like to build my own stuff when possible, and I have the time too.  It isn't just about the costs.  I'll still probably end up spending maybe about $100 in parts, paint and materials to do my own Farnsworth.  I do like that Qmx Tesla.  Might tackle building one of those next.

You can get a model kit for a Tesla:

This one is a little pricy, but I've seen them for about $40 recently.  Though, I don't remember where.

Hmm,... interesting.  I will have to look into those Tesla garage kits more.  I'll check out the Prop Forum and see if anyone has built one yet.  Thanks for the heads up.

Nice.  That looks awesome.

Though, if I were to have one, I kinda want Claudi's Farnsworth, with all of her "improvements."  :)

I'm going to try and finally get back to this project.  Still have a few parts to round up.  Here's a video from a guy on the RPF that made a great replica.  I'm planning on mimicking his electronics with mine.
