I'm having trouble getting wifi over in my side yard and need to extend my signal.
Do any of you have extenders on your wifi network? If so, can you suggest a low cost solution for me?
I've read a little bit about it, but when I go shopping for them I don't find what I'm looking for.
Any suggestions?
I set one up at my parents house, it was a D-Link extender. Honestly, I didn't like it. It created a lot of latency on the network and was generally unreliable. I know you can buy more powerful antennas for certain routers, that might do a bit better.
Rick, I use a spare wifi router to create another wifi network at the back of house. It's pretty easy to setup. Doesnt exactly extend your wifi but create another wifi network on your home LAN. If you're losing signal from the main wifi then the iPad will just join this one.
So if you've got a spare wifi router or can pick one up cheap....
Don't use a repeater. I've been using one for two years and its terrible & unstable. Use a better antenna or another wifi router like Dangelus said :)

I should say that if you use my method you need to hard wire the second router into the first so you may or may not be able to do this. If you use a power line adapter to run the network through your power cables you won't have the problem of cabling around the house but then this starts to get expensive.
