Title: Tuning in to Scifi TV podcast
Post by: Kevin Bachelder on August 17, 2011, 11:48:01 AM
Hi folks,

My flagship podcast is "Tuning in to Scifi TV"...

http://www.tuningintoscifitv.com (http://www.tuningintoscifitv.com)

We cover all the genre shows on TV.  Each week we discuss the latest news about the shows, we give quick spoiler free reviews of them and we also have some detailed discussions about a few of the really good TV episodes from the previous week.

Along with our regular weekly podcasts which come out on Tuesdays we also release a "Last Call" podcast on Friday to discuss anything that didn't fit in our regular 70 minute podcast.

To keep folks thinking we also release a 'Tuner Minute' each week to ask our listeners a question or bring up a thought provoking topic that we discuss on our next show.

Enjoy,

Kevin

If anything you need to list to their Top 100 Genre Shows of all Time specials.. so well produced and a ton of fun to listen too.

Thanks for the kind words Kenny.

Last last year we ran a poll on our website and we asked our listeners and other folks to submit their top 20 genre TV shows of all time.  We received hundreds of ballots and we created the top 100 genre shows list based on those votes.  We then created a series of podcasts where we counted them down 10 shows at a time.  Our talented editor Brent pulled audio clips from every show in the countdown and we also included comments from many of our listeners.

You can find those countdown episodes here...

http://tuningintoscifitv.com/category/podcast/top-100/ (http://tuningintoscifitv.com/category/podcast/top-100/)

We also recently ran a poll asking folks to vote for their top genre theme songs/tunes of all time and that countdown will be starting up soon.

It's a good show but if I'm allowed a guilty confession, I'd have to admit to having dropped it off my schedule at some point in the past. :(

My main problem was the US/UK time lag. It rendered too much of the spoileriffic content...spoileriffic and I never had the self discipline to manage both it and myself correctly. That aside, as much as anything, I found it was good to keep up with the shows I don't watch and get a view as to whether they were things I should be watching.

(I'm not trying to be negative about the podcast here, to be clear, so I hope this isn't taken in the wrong way.)

Well they do say that there last section is full of spoilers.. also if I haven't watched the show that they are talking about and don't want to be spoiled I just stop the podcast and wait until I see it and then listen to it.

Yes - that's the lack of discipline part :)

I think that would work where we have a lag of a week or so (and that's what I used to do) but where we still get stuff a month or two behind it becomes next to impossible to manage.

It's still an excellent summary show.

As Kenny said the first half of our podcast, known as the Water Cooler, is the spoiler free portion where we discuss the latest news about genre TV shows.  The second half, known as the Back Porch, is where we pick 3-4 of the best episodes of genre TV from that week and we discuss them in full details so if you're behind the US viewing schedule for any reason that part of the show would be something that you'd want to skip.

I completely understand your position and appreciate the kind words about the podcast.  Not every podcast is for everyone.  We're all good though. :)

Thanks,

Kevin

I don't think I've told you, Kevin, but this has become my go-to podcast at the start of each week.  More than anything else, I can rest assured that I'm not missing everything, because of all the TV you guys cover, and the crazy number of news sources.  Plus, I get to see if I agree with you.

Hey, you should make some kind of test on the website that determines if someone's tastes align with you, Brent or Wendy!  ;)

I'm picking it up again too. With all this discussion, I find that I miss three of them and their discussions. I'll have to try and manage the spoiler content a little better, though.

(Thankfully, the entire history isn't in the feed - I'm a bit of a completist so would just have to listen to all of them!)
