Well - looks like a childhood favorite of mine got scrapped. No Lone Ranger movie in the cards...

Although I must admit that I don't like the idea of Johnny Depp playing masked rider.
I thought Johnny was going to play Tonto? I heard they are maybe still going to make this, but at lower costs.

Now that I can buy - JD as Tonto. I loved the cartoon version of the Lone Ranger as a kid - and never missed it after school. :)
I think this could be a good movie if they do it. Don't care if Depp is in it or not. I know they did a comic a few years back. I think Dynamite published it.
Perhaps, if they've dropped the human cast, they'll make Champion The Wonderhorse instead?
JD as Tonto would have been different, if htey can get the budget under control it may be back on.
Reviving this thread from the dead. Yes, the movie is coming in 2013. First trailer below...

That looks like fun!
It does look pretty good. I think Johnny Depp is going to make a good Tonto!
That looks like a fun ride! Looking foward to this one. I can probably talk the wife into it because Johnny Depp is in it.
Uggh - I hate when I cannot see linked stuff when I am at work. Have to check it at home..
New trailer hit today. I really hope this movie does well...I love westerns and while this probably barely qualifies it's the closest we're getting from Hollywood these days.

Yes, can't wait to see this one. Anyone else enjoy that old 60's cartoon?
This looks very enjoyable.
New poster is out and a snippet of the Superbowl preview we are getting this weekend.

Is this meant to be a comedy?
Hard to tell. Certainly trying to cash in on Johnny's Pirates fame as weird guy in weird getup that talks weird.

Seems to be at first glance.
Certainly seems to have a good bit of humor throughout the trailers I've seen, which is fine with me. I've always wondered what our neighbors across the pond thought of depictions in Hollywood of the American West, especially when they were so popular in the 50s and 60s. Must seem almost like watching scenes from another planet for the Brits.

It's like looking out my front window for me. :)

You can use your Logan's Run Flame-gun - if it could make a silver flame.
hey, one of the Winklevoss twins.. ;) ..is playing the Lone Ranger..
Well not looking too good for Lone Ranger. This is a tough one. I wonder if the character can resonate with younger audiences? I recall with fondness the cartoon of the late 60's that I saw in my youth. I don't think there has been any exposure to the character and story since that time. Seems like Westerns don't play that well these days either.

I still want to see this at the theater. I think it will be pretty good.

Yep, I agree. I'm going to try and go this Saturday.
I'll make my decision after I hear what you guys think.
Went out to see this today and enjoyed it. I'm not an expert on the Ranger, but it seemed to have all the elements in there. Some great action, and lots of trains and horses doing some crazy stuff. Depp was his usual slightly off kilter self. Armie Hammer was pretty good as the Ranger but it takes awhile for him to really get into the character since this is kind of an origin story. Loved the horse - Silver. Some beautiful scenery too. Also, for the most part except for a couple moments this movie is pretty kid friendly - as long as they are old enough to handle most of the usual things you see in westerns. Anyway, I had a good time and the last 30 minutes or so are really great, I thought. Check it out for yourself if this kind of film appeals to you.

THanks Rico - maybe we'll hit this today.
I think you'd get a kick out of it Pete. Is this the greatest movie ever - nope. But it is a fun time - in my opinion after actually seeing it. I think this trailer below gives you a good feel for the film.
