Looks cool. The "original" Stallone version is kind of one of my guilty pleasures :)

Wow, those helmets are terribly designed! Those little red "X"'s go right through their field of vision!

I was really enjoying that until I saw the ever present two figures.....'3' and 'D'!!

Seriously though, looks like it could be cool. Maybe the best Dredd movie since Robocop!

It would be interesting to see what people thought of this movie.  I saw it on Tuesday, and it's completing different to the Stallone version!!

I saw this today. The story was pretty simple, but the action was pretty extreme. Not for the feint hearted for sure. Acting wise for Karl Urban, probably not all that hard, as all he needed to do was wear a Helmet the whole way though and have a scowl on his face. :)

Checked it out yesterday.  I'd call it Very O.K.  I enjoyed it more than I did the Stallone version, and I feel it's closer in tone to the comics.  There were a few chuckle-worthy moments of dark (VERY dark) humor, and the action/shoot-out scenes were well executed.  WARNING:  This movie is pretty violent.  Not only that, it revels in some of the gory scenes.

I felt it was a fun action/shoot-em-up flick with a pretty straight forward, uncomplicated story.  It was kind of like watching a well-filmed photo-realistic video game.

Actually, it was more like watching a pulp comic book brought to life on screen.  And since that's what the film is based on, I guess it does it's job pretty well. :)

What I enjoyed the most:  The set design, the costumes, and how well the world of the film was brought to life.  Also the action, and how well the soundtrack complemented the film.

What I enjoyed the least:  Some of the scenes were pretty brutal, and there's a story element that gives the film several chances to really focus in on the gore. While I didn't enjoy those scenes, they didn't take me out of the film.

Overall, I'd call it a fun, mindless, ultra-violent B-Movie with cool special effects. :)

I think it's rated R so I would expect some pretty intense violence.

I might try and see this tomorrow at a matinee.

OK, I just saw it! Went to a noon matinee, saw it in regular 2D but after seeing it kinda wished I had seen 3D as there are parts that would clearly look very cool. The downside to seeing it in 3D would be it's a dark film and in 3D may be too dark. The theater had 3 other people, I hear the box office has been disappointing. I think they did a terrible job marketing this movie, it's almost nonexistent.

Anyway, I really liked it. Wasn't sure if I was going to early int he movie but it engaged me slowly and had me pretty all in at the end. I kept watching it thinking "what does this remind me of?" and realized as I left the theater it's like the original RoboCop. It's very bleak and nihilistic and as mentioned, very violent and graphic. I am not a reader of the comics so my whole Dredd experience is framed around the Stallone film, which I actually liked when it came out. Karl Urban was practically channeling the Stallone performance most of the time but I was ok with that as I think what Stallone did was cool and since they stuck to it I assume comic accurate. And I liked both the villain Ma Ma (Can't recall where I have seen her before but will look her up in IMDB) and his rookie partner Anderson. I have to also give credit to the building Peachtree Towers as being a major character in the film. It creates a sufficiently closed off, claustrophobic environment that's effect for the story and filming economy. Being a prop fan I did like the Lawgivers in the original movie a bit better based on design but these were cool as well. I also thought the ending was terrific. It's short, only 1:36 running time and that is PERFECT for a film like this, bravo for not overindulging. The only mistep in that regard was the effects used for the Slo-Mo drug but that likely looks great in 3D.So I give it a solid recommend but just be aware the content is rough, bad stuff happens, and I applaud them for not sugar coating it and making too glossy, which I can see be the rub with the Stallone movie.

And of course..
I loved it when he said "I AM THE LAW."
Lena Headey was Ma Ma, She was in 300 and as well Sarah Conner in the Terminator TV series a few years back.

I actually may consider seeing it again in 3D.

Reports here are people not going because its hard to find a 2D showing. I love the comic Judge Dredd and would love to see this but like others I won't be forced to the 3D showing. Kell saw it in 3D and said it was awful. As Bry said above its a very dark film and he reported that because of its darkness you find it hard to actually see whats going on.

I saw it in 3D, as there were no 2D showing that I could find. I am not big on 3D, but I thought it was alright. Did not seem overly dark to me, but maybe I have gotten used to how 3D looks like.
I find it odd that both Total Recall and Dredd both did poorly at the box office. I wonder since both Stallone and Schwarzenegger are still making movies if people felt it was to soon for a reboot. Both those guys have large profiles, and when these new remakes came out, the actors taking over the roles profiles were much smaller. I know when I saw Dredd, there was maybe 10 people in the theatre, I was a bit surprised. I also wonder if a R rating hurt this, as parents could not take their kids to it.

Both Recall and Dredd were R rated back in the day. But keep in mind that was at the heyday of Stallone and Arnold action films, those guys were box office gold regardless of the material. Karl Urban and Colin Ferrel are no where near the same kind of box office draw. And to be honest, both the original movies were good, Recall is a classic, so I just don;t think anyone other then hardcore fans were clamoring for a re-boot of either.
