I had just gone to bed around 7:50 and wa reading my book when i could here the wind start to kick up, which is normal this time of year as the monsson season starts. Big wind and blowing dust usually preclude a thunderstorm. When this hit our town, it was pretty dark out, so we didn't see the wall heading our way, but this morning at 4:30am when i left home, I was shoked how much dust there was in the roads and how extensive the dust was. It's everywhere and cars thatw ere left outside are covered in it! Now we need a good rain to wash it away.

Al, did you guys get any up by you? You guys are so far northwest.

Looks like a mustard gas attack from WW1.

Yeah, we got hit pretty hard. It was like a blizzard, only hotter! :) And this morning it was surreal. Lots of dust on the ground and a lot in the air still. I posted a photo on the @talespodcast Twitter of the sun...weird.

I spent the afternoon yesterday washing down all my patio's and outside furntiture, pool deck, and brushing out the bottom of the pool. It wasn't too bad.

Does it cause problems if you're out in it? Doesn't look like something I'd want to try and breathe my way through.

What about inside? How fine was it and did any of it manage to get in?

(I should caeat that last question with the UK stereotypical image of US homes as being completely, hermetically sealed with electricity guzzling air-conditioning. That might colour your view of the answer you think I'm expecting!)

You can walk outside in it but it's not pleasant. The dust is like grit in your moth and nose and stings you eyes. You can get some inside through your AC vents, but in general homes out here are pretty well sealed up, I know ours is very much so. When it's so hot out, you need to be well insulated.

Yeah I guess insulation is just as important for you guys in the summer as it is for us in the winter. That being said, I really have to get some more insulation blown into my attic, I lose a lot of heat/cool through there right now.

Yep, I have been up in the crawl space below our roof and it's filed with fiberglass insulation sheets to keep the cold in. The guy who built our house was an engineer and he over-engineered a lot, our doors, windos, electrical system, we really lucked out in that regards.
