Title: Podcast # 336 - "Doctor Who" 6a
Post by: Rico on June 19, 2011, 04:00:02 PM
Got the new guest podcast finally up for this weekend with Meds, Kenny, and Kasey taking over the center seat(s) in order to bring you a great new cast on the first half of series six of "Doctor Who."  I know everyone is going to really enjoy listening to this one.  Big thanks to Meds, Kenny and Kasey for doing this and giving me a little extra time this weekend.  Thanks much folks!  Now, go enjoy listening to the podcast and remember, "podcasts are cool."

Cool, provocative podcast. I haven't been keeping up with the good Doctor in recent years (except when I made my daughter a brief addict of the Christopher Eccleston episodes). Now I want to go to BBC America to view the episodes as a result of the podcast.

Never could get my daughter to watch Star Trek with me, but she enjoyed watching Dr. Who for a while. Chalk up one for the Brits.

I was a fan of the Tom Baker series back in the day, so he's my favorite. I really enjoyed his teflon optimism, confidence and humorous attitude. Generally seemed to transcend all that was going on around him.

You guys sounded like you had lots of fun. Kudos.

Came across this mention in praise of David Tennant on the CNN site:

A good season summary.

I wonder if the little intro segments that BBC America put up are due to the fact that the programme isn't on a mainstream channel over there and has moved about a bit over the last few years.

Over here, everyone gets the BBC and always has so the demand for catch-up type segments would be a lot lower.

To be fair catchup segments are popular on American shows. I do find them annoying as I feel that they are treating the viewer as idiots sometimes. Also some catchup segments are so detailed, bringing in elements from several back episodes than sometimes I can pretty much predict what the current episode is going to be all about!

Yeah, USA Network does that a lit with shows like "Burn Notice" and "Royal Pains". "Battlestar Galactica" and "Caprica" seemed to do it as well.

True, Caprica seems to introduce every character with a bit of back story at the start of every episode. It's driving me slowly crackers.

Haven't watched much Dr. Who since Tom Baker. Used to watch Dr. Who with my dad when it was on PBS. I've caught bits of pieces of the more recent ones. It's great hearing the podcasts. Makes me want to watch more. I'll have to see if they're on Netflix. That's the only way I get my tv.

Loved the podcast!!!   :r2d2 :tardis

Dr. Who is on Netflix. I just watched "The Ark In Space" a few days ago. The streaming stuff is great. I also watched the first half of the last David Tennant episode. I can see now why David Tennant has kind of pushed Tom Baker out of the spot a bit as the favorite Doctor.

Cool to be able to stream this stuff online.

One day we'll invent streaming video over here too.

What? You mean to tell me that not even "The Beeb" streams Dr. Who episodes on their website?

No.

iPlayer had the recent series for catch up purposes but once the series is over it gets taken down.

There is no streaming access to 'classic'/historic content at al that I know of.

That's unfair. You guys pay for it in your taxes, right? You should have access to it. I think the next candidate for PM should have that as part of their campaign platform.

Wow! A political goal I'd actually consider supporting! ;)

I finally got to listen to this and you all did a great job. I really liked the format you used when you talked about each episode and i liked your different thoughts on them as well. Looking foward to the next Doctor Who podcast.
