Oh, here's a quick pic of my prop replica of the gun Rick Deckard uses in the film.

Wow don't think that would be legal to own over here, looks too real!

The plastic handle and double trigger makes it pretty "prop like."  But of course, since we can buy guns over here (with a license of course), it's not a big deal.  I got this a few years back.  Nice little item.

Yes it's very nice.

Btw with the correct license certain individuals can own guns in the UK, but ironically "toy" guns are banned if they look realistic, unless they are old style "cowboy" pistols or muskets! Lol

There are a few similar "laws" over here on toys and stuff like that.  But, this isn't a toy, it's a collectible prop replica.  ;)

P.S. Plus, it never leaves the Rico-Cave.

One of my top favorite sci-fi weapons of all time. And it's based off of a combination of two real world firearms, a Steyr-Mannlicher Model SL rifle and a Charter Arms Bulldog revolver. Which replica is that, Rico, a resin one or the metal one from Japan?

It's metal and resin both.  I think it was made in Japan.  Someone on the RPF was ordering a group of them a few years ago and I got one.

Yep, I remember that and didn't do it and regret it now. That's a great replica.

Hi Rico, just three thoughts after watching the excellent director's cut today.

1-Ridley Scott's commercial for the '84 debute of macintosh looks like he revisited the Blade Runner set for another dose of that dystopian future.
http://youtu.be/OYecfV3ubP8 (http://youtu.be/OYecfV3ubP8)

2-The 5th Element would make for an interesting double feature - Same retro/ future design but more upbeat.

3-Lens flare!

Awesome film, great replica to. So not legal over here though, like Dangerlus said, you cannot even get a Samuri sword here now. There goes me getting a Batleth.
But as for the film it is one of my favourites,i have the box set with all the versions in it. I so meant to send in a comment for this episode, but i never seemed to catch a break this week.
That said thanks for doing an episode on one of favourite Films. It was awesome.

Great episode Rico, you brought back a lot of the memories of the film.  I enjoyed it so much.  I sure enjoyed Bryan's comments too.  Great clips and commentary.  Thanks for an awesome show.

I really enjoyed Will's comments too on Super 8.  I want to see it!

Oh, and Kenny-  WOW!  You made tears come to my eyes and I didn't even get to see the concert!  SO COOL!  Thanks for the BRILLIANT report.  Must have been something!  That is great that you got to experience that.

If folks want the song I did called "Electric Sheep" they can download it over at http://www.startrekparodies.com (http://www.startrekparodies.com)

Great podcast and comments!

I must confess Blade Runner confused the heck out of me when I watched it. I'll have to revisit the movie and see if it makes more sense to me now. Lol

Glad you all are enjoying this cast.  I spent some time on this one and this movie deserves it.  I wish we could get an interesting, thoughtful (with some action) SF film like this again sometime.  There have been a few, but most these days seem to be mega-effects blockbusters.

Rico,

Great review of a "sci-fi noir" classic (even though it's in color). There's a bit of a Sam Spade vibe to it (The Maltese Falcon meets Millenium Falcon). I always loved the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Ennis-Brown House that was used as the interior of Deckard's apartment (also used in The Rocketeer and a bunch of other movies).

You brought back memories of a film that I haven't seen in ages. Will have to watch the movie again.

Dr. Moyer, great musical montage. You da man. Now I've got the refrain stuck in my head (thanks a lot!).

Still in the early part of the podcast, but loved Kenny's review of SW in Concert and I am so jealous he got to see John Williams! Such a great show.

One quick correction, Rico, and a comment which made me laugh. Vangelis is a guy, not a band. He also scored "Chariot's of Fire".

i loved this podcast, the music to the film is one of the few scores i own, this and Matrix and a few star trek ones. But i just loved the atmosphere of these whole film and the twist at the end.
Thanks Rico great cast as always.

True.  However, the music for the film has an interesting history.  It seems Vangelis had issues with Ridley Scott just like Harrison Ford.  Read on...

Main article: Blade Runner (soundtrack)
In 1982, Vangelis collaborated with director Ridley Scott, to write the score for the science fiction film Blade Runner.[24] Capturing the isolation and melancholy of Harrison Ford's character, Rick Deckard, the Vangelis score is as much a part of the dystopian environment as the decaying buildings and ever-present rain.[25]
A disagreement led to Vangelis withholding permission for his performance of the music from Blade Runner to be released, and the studio instead hired a group of musicians dubbed "The New American Orchestra" to record the official LP released at the time. It took 12 years before the disagreement was resolved and Vangelis's own work was released in the United States, in 1994. The soundtrack was still incomplete, as the film contained some non-Vangelis tracks as well.[23] Over the years a series of bootleg recordings of Blade Runner soundtrack from unknown sources have been released, mostly targeted to collectors as "private releases", that contain most of the music cues (including the Ladd Company logo theme).[26] A three disc box set was released in late 2007 containing the 1994 album, a second disc containing some more of the missing music cues and a third disc of new Vangelis material inspired by Blade Runner. The 2007 release still lacks some incidental music, most notably the background music from the Taffey Lewis bar scene featuring vocals by Demis Roussos.[27]

I'm glad you included some of the audio from the narrated version. Youcan hear how intentionally awful Ford's delivery of the narrative lines is done, intentionally on his part. he sounds asleep!

I haven't watched this in years and probably didn't fully 'get' it when I did see it. I certainly didn't know about the narrated version.

It's a shame I listened to this one at work (sorry) since I got distracted a lot but (as usual) I learned a lot and probably need to see the movie again now that I have a better chance of understanding what's going on!

I still have this on video which is just the theater version. I also found it on netflix so I really need to watch it again. And I just finished listening to this yesterday and it really made me want to catch it again. I also thought my comment sounded funny. I used that tinyvox app to do it. Oh, well. Looking foward to the Doctor Who podcast.

Hey Rico, I'm a little behind on my podcasts so only just listened to this one. Classic film and you had some interesting stuff on the behind the scenes. I don't know if it was just me but having heard your comments about Harrison being reluctant to do the voice overs I thought that clip you played from the end of the film kind of showed it. I don't know if it was just me but it really sounded like Harrison wasn't interested in what he was saying, just reading some lines
