Another book turned series.. This is Kevin Williamson's new project The Secret Circle. Looks very much like The Vampire Diaries. Which I haven't watched yet but heard are really good.. I plan on checking out this series.
Here's a brief synopsis and trailer
A teenage girl moves to New Salem, where her mother grew up, and discovers that she is a witch. There are good witches, bad witches, girl witches, and boy witches. In addition to dealing with their regular teen struggles, they also have to save the town and maybe the world.
There are three books in The Secret Circle series and rumor has it that L.J. Smith is going to write more. I hope she does and I hope the show has a long happy life.

I have not watched any vampire series since Buffy finished.
I think these new "sparkly" vampires are uninteresting. In fact the author of the vampire chronicles new nothing about vampire lore. So made things up to fit what bits she remembered. Which cleary shows in her books.
We need more scifi not more teenage vampire and charmed like programs.
Buffy was a teen vampire show and one of the if not the best. I think I miss that show more than any other show on TV.(Except Trek of course!) I don't care for "sparkly" vampires either, but it would seem to me that all vampire lore is made up! Joss Whedon played fast and loose with the vampire lore as I recall. All though Angel had his dark side, he was pretty sparkly by the end of Angels run. I'm not sure why people complain about teen angst so much, Buffy had plenty of it.(Though done better than most.) And if you don't get teen Angst, you get... adult angst.
I here a lot of people use the word filler episode. But the truth is very few shows, even Trek can just do nothing but Sci-Fi. Heroes tried cutting out all of the personal stuff and look what happened to it. It could have actually used a bit of... angst.
The Secret Circle looks very interesting, I missed the Vampire Diaries bandwagon, so I'll make it a point to catch this one. Maybe I'll try and read the books before fall.
This series starts tonight (9/15) as the new Fall Season continues.
My TV watching schedule is really starting to fill up. It's interesting that this year there is so many fantasy / myth shows. Must be in style.
Yep.. this is on my list of new shows that I want to see.. DVR is set.

Yep - I'll be watching both. I've really enjoyed "The Vampire Diaries" since it first started. Fun show.

I started watching Vampire Diaries when it premiered but I gave up after four episodes because it had way too much teen angst but some folks who I trusted told me it got much, much better around episode five so I went back to it and I'm so glad I did. It's an excellent genre show with some of the best pacing of any show on TV. The plot and stories move fast which I really like.
Getting back on topic for this thread I thought the Secret Circle premiere was OK. Not great but decent. As with most shows it's going to take a while to let things develop.

As I said on the last podcast, I wasn't super thrilled with the first episode of this series. Just ok, like you thought Kevin, is about what I felt too. Most of the characters just don't seem nearly as dynamic or interesting as those on "The Vampire Diaries." I'll watch a couple more and make up my mind then on this one.
Dropped this show from my TIVO now. Just wasn't grabbing me much at all.
I think I'm going to stick with this a little while longer. I'm more interested in what happened previously, though, than what's happening with our teen characters.
The last two episodes where much better than the first two so it's still on my viewing schedule. It's near the bottom but it's still on the list with hopes of moving up. :)
