Title: Catan

So who else loves playing Catan?

And for those who've never heard of it I highly suggest it as a fantastic strategy board game.

I tried it over Xbox live because I heard so many great things about it, but I never figured out the appeal.  I only played it once or twice and just didn't get it.  Can you explain why so many people love it and convince me to try again?

Well it helps to have somebody teach you the first time so you learn how to play cause a lot of it is strategy and a bit of luck. Once you really develop a strategy it becomes a lot of fun and there are hundreds of different ways to play and the board will never be the same so you always have to rethink your strategy and change the way you play. It's a lot of fun because it really can go anyway no matter how good you are. It's kinda like a board game version of Age of Empires, which I know a lot of people especially in my generation really love. You collect resources and develop your control over the board till you reach the required amount of victory points to win the game.

I always look at it and the various online versions but never quite get round to playing it. My board games tend to be Risk, Civilization or Axis & Allies

If you enjoy Risk you'd love Catan.

Catan is a great game. I recently played Catan Histories: Settlers of the Stone Age. Awesome! It's got a little of the Cities and Knights development mechanic. I talked with someone who had never played Catan and really liked it
