WOW! This is pretty awesome news! Hope you have an AMC theater near you.
Fans of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings films should start clearing their June calenders. TheOneRing.net has revealed that, not only will the trilogy be making a return to the big screen at AMC Theaters over a three week period, all three films will be arriving in the Extended Edition versions previously available only on DVD*.
The Fellowship of the Ring will screen on Tuesday, June 14th with The Two Towers following one week later on June 21st and The Return of the King concluding the series on June 28th.
Each film will screen for one night only and, while it hasn't been confirmed as of yet, ComingSoon.net is hearing that AMC will offer the digital versions of each with a ticket price of $12.50 a show.

So going!
I'm there.. for all three movies... can't wait.
A marathon session might be in order..
Three Tuesdays in a row (only day showing) for about 4+ hours per evening. Not sure I'll be able to hack that. Maybe I'll try "Fellowship" first and see how it goes. It's my favorite of the three anyway.
Oh I would love it if it was a marathon.. but I'll be happy to see one a week.. I've seen FOTR and TT EE on the big screen.. but never ROTK.. can't wait.
I should take advantage of this, Return of the King is on my list of shame. :(

When did you see the extended editions on the big screen Kenny?
I recall a limited release of the extended editions that were shown as a one day marathon. My Uncle went to a screening in NYC. I am so excited to see these on the big screen!

When they released Return of the King... they had a marathon and showed Fellowship of the Ring EE and then The Two Towers EE and the premiere of Return of the King.. it was 15 hours of Lord of the Ring goodness. :)
Ahh, I thought those were the original film versions. I didn't even realize the extended versions were around that early on. When did the extended versions come out on DVD?
P.S. I even bought the film version DVD's when they first came out.
I got the Extended Version on DVD for Christmas 3 years in a row from my parents so as I recall they each came out about a year after they were in theaters.
Wow this would be so fun! I'll have to see if I can make it work somehow...
I know I'd like to go, but the nearest AMC theater from me is about 3 or 4 hours away. As it stands now it's doubtful I'll be able to.
I don't think I could do these in the theaters again. As I age my attention span gets shorter and shorter, especially since I've seen the extended versions at home already at least three or four times each film. It would be fun for sure but I couldn't sit still that long.

Hmmm I find that the older I get the more I am able to sit longer and longer, especially if I'm engrossed in a fantastical world.

You make a very good point about sitting still that long. I can't even make it through an hour long TV episode anymore without doing something active. If I did go I'd hope they maybe had an intermission like on the Extended Edition DVDs have.
Look, if I can sit through these anyone can. :)

Oh I'm sure I could sit through the whole thing... if I were tied down with some huge ropes. You should see me on campus. Three classes in a row and I'm so jittery by the end of the first.
Got my ticket for FOTR!! gonna get TT and ROTK next.
Anyone else going to these? I'm still a bit undecided.
I want to but the location and show times don't work well for me.
