The filming is taking place in Detroit Michigan, Grand Ledge Michigan, Harper woods Michigan, Mt. Clemens Michigan, Pontiac Michigan, and Royal Oak Michigan,. As you can see it will probity take place in Michigan. the website i got this information off of is http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1234719/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1234719/)
Is it still going to be high school students saving the day? I wonder who is going to be casted to play the leads?
The movie is already shot.. click on the IMDB link and it will show you the cast.. my buddy worked on it. I'll see if I can get more info.
Chris Hemsworth is the lead.. he's going to play Thor and he was also George Kirk in the remake Star Trek
And the new Wonder Woman Adrianne Palicki is the lead woman
:offtopic
A worrying name for an actor...
I knew a Chris Hemsworth once but he was asked to leave the company after what was apparently (technically) an assault on the tachnical director.
A different person, obviously!
Chris has come along way from being a beefcake on an Australian soap opera!
IS NOTHING SACRED????? https://www.facebook.com/RedDawnFilm (https://www.facebook.com/RedDawnFilm)
Shite, Am I THAT old? NO, and niether is the ORIGINAL FILM!!!
STOP ALL THE FRICKIN REMAKES AND GET SOME ORIGINALITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But, I see it has Chris "Thor" Hemsworth and the super-hot Adrianna Palicki( Yay, Poland!) so I will have to see it, :sigh:
Very nice effects, hope the script holds up to the original.

It looks good. Yeah, I hope they have the depth of character development they had in the original.
I won't be seeing this one.
I want to see this but I'll probaby be waiting for Red Box or Netflix.
This movie has had a ton of ups and downs and some drastic changes. After filming they changed the invaders from the Chinese to North Koreans. How they expect us to believe that North Korea could invade the United States is beyond me. Read up on it below...

They've got to be kidding!
QuoteIn March 2011, the Los Angeles Times reported that MGM changed the villains in its Red Dawn remake from Chinese to North Korean in order to maintain access to China's lucrative box office. The changes reportedly cost less than $1 million and involve changing an opening sequence summarizing the story's fictional backdrop, re-editing two scenes and using digital technology to transform many Chinese symbols to Korean. The film's producer Trip Vinson stated, "We were initially very reluctant to make any changes, but after careful consideration we constructed a way to make a scarier, smarter and more dangerous Red Dawn that we believe improves the movie.

I think if they kept the invaders chinese, there may be some fall out from it...
Who cares? What fallout was there from the Russians and Cubans being the invaders in the original. It's just not nearly as believable now.

It was a different time back then with the cold war. I was in high school when that movie came out and making the Soviets look like the bad guys was more generally accepted at the time.
Then again you make a good point. In this age, it COULD be China.... But maybe they didn't want to offend them and changed them to North Koreans.

The DIFFERENCE is that when the original Red Dawn was released, we didn't do a lot of trade with Soviet Russia did we? We do billions of dollars worth of business with China. It would be akin to a professional athlete trashing a sports product - result would most likely be bad for any possible endorsement deals. I'm pretty positive that if they had left China as the bad guy, it would have been bad economically speaking. And then WHERE would Apple have products build? :)
And to the point that it's completely unbelievable that North Korea could invade the US...why? Why is it inconceivable? I think it's totally within the realm of possibility. I'm quite sure at one point, someone thought "It's not possible for anyone to destroy two very tall buildings, without us stopping them first". I think the likelihood of North Korea doing something is plausible.
Al, North Korea could not do this - period. For many reasons. They lack any real military that could be deployed globally (especially in the air - and to get to us and inside the country they need air power). They roughly have the money that North Dakota has. This is not a single terrorist attack, this is a concentrated military attempted take over of the strongest country in the world. Your comparison to something like 9/11 does not work. I can easily believe we are very vulnerable still to terrorism - but not a military takeover by a foreign power - and certainly not by impoverished North Korea.
Rico...it's a movie...And who knows for sure honestly? In this day and age, I think it serious folly to make a statement like, they could not do this period. Sorry, but it IS thinking like that, those who completely dismiss an idea, that creates a lot of trouble.
How about making it Venezuela..in the movie they could make a sudden strike at our resurgent oil fields and 'frakking' sites..Iran leaping in to supply more muscle! Our Monster-truck driving, Budweiser drinkin' Team America teen combatants could be led by Brigadier Woody Harrelson...
:)

There is nothing folly or wrong about my facts. Do a little Googling on North Korea. Trust me, they are no threat. Yes, it's a movie but when you create a movie about real world events you need to make it plausible.

I am just reminded of the times we were supposed to freak out that North Korea was launching a missile...and it didn't work. So...yeah. Not impressed by them militarily. I AM impressed by their nutty leadership and the fear they evoke in their own people, and South Korea who has the misfortune of sharing that peninsula.
I guess we DO trade a lot with China...(wouldn't mind if it was less, let's face it, manufacturing is nothing in the US thanks mostly to China)I just find it hard to believe that some cruddy movie would unravel it.

Sorry, but nothing is certain. Nothing. But you know what? This isn't worth arguing about. It's your birthday, so you win :)
I actually believe many things are certain in the universe. So, we will have to agree to disagree then Al. But when North Korea invades and takes over the good old USA you can certainly say I told you so to me. :)

:) I hope I'm wrong buddy...which I generally am but it makes for interesting discussion from time to time! :)
Yeah, the choice to remove China as the antagonist was simply based on the economics. They want the film to have a global appeal and portraying the Chinese as an aggressor nation invading the US would have likely been taken very poorly byu 1/4 of the people living on the Earth. The North Koreans on the other hand, no one likes their government, not even the Chinese. Although i agreee the North Koreans have no means of projecting military influence beyond a their immediate geographic area. I believe their entire Air Force consists of a handful of 40 year old Migs...
