Title: Diaspora - Facebook alternative
Post by: Rico on February 18, 2011, 09:47:56 AM
A small start up company has been slowly working on a Facebook alternative called Diaspora.  I'm not the biggest Facebook fan.  I find the interface a bit clunky and have a few other issues with it.  But of course, "everyone" is on Facebook.  If you feel like trying this alternative out, go to the link below to try out the Alpha build.  Of course, this will only get a good test as more people sign up.  So tell your friends too!

I actually like FB interface, I mean if my Mom can post links and pics, tag them, ect. it must be very intuitive! And she enjoys it, it's not technology she is afraid of and i think that's the power of what they have done and why they have become so successful. Not that they were so much more innovative then say MySpace, but they did build a better mouse trap. At this point, it will be almost prohibitively difficult for an alternative general social media site to get any traction. Even the president mentioned FB in the State of the Union speech.

Look like it's closed to new signings at the moment.

I don't disagree Bryan, but I always think you can build a better mousetrap.  My job over the years is almost always about building the better mousetrap.  But there are days I'd like to come in and say, "this is as good as paint can get."  ;)

Diaspora has been around a while, but I'm going to hold off until they reach a higher "status" in the social networks.  I'm a part of way too many as it is...
