Post by: Rico on February 14, 2011, 07:29:45 AM
I'm going to try and get to this con next month in Chicago.  Some celebs and other fun stuff will be there.  Just applied for my press pass.  Learn more at the link below:

Ah. I assume these plans have changed with the new living and working arrangements?

Yeah.  Even though they just sent me an email saying my press pass will be waiting for me.  I'm slightly tempted to drive in for the weekend for it, but I think I'll hold off for maybe the summer, bigger con in August.

Are press passes transferable? Maybe RickPeete can go as your "roving reporter" :)

You need to show ID to pick them up.  They are made out to both the organization and the person.  Plus, I'm not quite sure he was interested in going.

In your experience, what have been the benefits of the press pass?  Other that free admission?  I've been granted press credentials for WorldCon (they don't do free admission passes), but no one can tell me if it gives me special access, extra stuff, ability to schedule interviews, or is just supposed to make me feel special.  Have you noticed any press pass perks?

It helped me get an interview with Walter Koenig at the Chicago Comic Con last summer.  There are also usually special events or parties for press, but I usually don't bother with those.  It depends on what you do with the pass.  I have found it much easier to talk to celebs with it around my neck than just being one of the masses.  Typically they respond better.  Chase Masterson was very nice to chat with.  At many cons they are cracking down on video especially but many times a press pass gives you an exception to that rule.  It all depends on the organization, rules, etc.
