I thought I'd start a thread on the awesome comedy "Community." This show has been one of my favorite comedies for the past year and half that it's been on. Very inventive, fun and has a super cast. I think all of you would really enjoy it. Give it a try!
This week's Valentines episode was awesome. Loved all the British jokes and soccer humor too. Chang was terrific!

Is Chevy Chase made up to look that old or has he gone that grey naturally?
chevy is really that old. He'll be 68 this year.
Blimey, it reminds me of the photo for the MASH podcast,me the youthful one and Al and Kenny looking, well a bit Chevy Chase like. ;) (runs away)

Cruel...
(Particularly as I know Kenny is younger than me.)
Meds, Meds, Meds...So good YOU should look when 900 years old YOU are! :)
I've always said grey is much better than bald. Although Chevy is a bit of both.

What shocked me most about Meds comment, was he noticed Chevy Chase more than the girls on the show. Such as cutie Alison Brie. :biggrin

Yep - last night's episode with Pierce giving them all little gifts and messing with their heads was awesome!
The episode a few weeks ago where they where playing D&D was great!
NBC has renewed "Community" for another season! Awesome! And a new episode tonight too!

Awesome episode this past Thursday. They sort of did a clip show - but with new clips to show us. Lots of awesome stuff. They poked some fun at "The Cape" TV series, "Glee" and a bunch of other stuff. Watch the end of this clip especially. Love this show!

New season started last night. Man, I love this show. Part of the story was the resident film and TV geek (and student), Abed was lost without his favorite TV show to watch ("Cougar Town"). So they had to find a replacement show for him. Check out what they found for him to watch:

I love this show too. Abed pops up in weird places...he had a bizarre, uncredited and unexplained cameo on Cougar Town last season, just in the background as the principal cast ate at an outdoor cafe. Odd but funny. I have the new episode on the DVR and will watch tonight.

Abed's "Cougar Town" obsession has been mentioned several times on "Community." Especially in the Abed birthday episode where he tells Jeff (in great detail) about his vivid dream to the set of "Cougar Town."
Yeah, great episode. Love the UK version of Cougartown called "Cougarton Abbey" and the Dr. Who reference "Inspector Spacetime" which is now Abed's favorite show of all time.
Loved this week's episode with the six different timelines at the party. This series is just so awesome and inventive week after week! :)
This season has been so awesome. The recent episode about Annie moving was terrific. Still one of the best, most inventive comedies on right now!

For me too Kevin. I think we have very similar tastes. I just love the fun, zaniness of Community week after week. Nothing else like it!
The Halloween show this year was brilliant, with all the alternate realities. That episode set the bar for this show for sure.
The Halloween show and the episode with the alternate realities were two different episodes.

My bad, you know what I meant. Things are not looking good for the future of this show, which I can't believe...this is probably the funniest sitcom on the air right now.

Today in news from the darkest timeline: NBC pulls Community from its midseason lineup
By Sean O'Neal November 14, 2011
NBC has just released its midseason schedule, and with it comes the expected reshuffling of its Thursday night comedy block, and the decision that many viewers feared but perhaps never dared to believe the network might actually go through with: The fervently beloved yet very low-rated Community is being pulled from the lineup, replaced in its timeslot by the returning 30 Rock. So far neither NBC nor creator Dan Harmon has issued a statement on the show's future, but it should be noted that this isn't an official cancellation. The New York Times' Bill Carter (as relayed by colleague Brian Stelter) says that NBC is only keeping Community off the air "for a brief time"—though obviously that's fairly open-ended, not likely to assuage fans at all, and does not bode well for its chances of being renewed next year. In the meantime, Thursdays will become the new home to Up All Night, while Whitney has finally been shunned and scorned right out of the programming block—and into a cushy new home as the anchor of Wednesday night. So there, everything worked out in the end, except the exact opposite of that.
UPDATE: The Futon Critic says it's been assured by NBC that all 22 episodes of the third season will be shot and aired. Meanwhile, Harmon has (obliquely) commented on the hiatus with "Streets Ahold!" Also, this still sucks.
Yeah, it's never gotten great ratings which is a shock to me. No other comedy is quite as zany and week after week inventive as this series. I'm glad NBC has tried to stand behind it for three seasons at least.
EVERYONE - try this series now! You won't regret it.
While the ratings aren't that good we have a decent chance of seeing the show come back because of the value of being able to sell the series in syndication. The more episodes, the more valuable it is in the syndication market so the studio and network might be willing to leave it on the air long enough to make it more appealing to the buyers.
'Community' "Save Our Show" Efforts Are Meaningless; Luckily For Fans, Syndication Economics Are Not

Well, the original "Star Trek" was only three seasons and that played in syndication for years. I know things are different these days, if anything there is more competition since everything seems to pop up on Netflix to watch there. I certainly do hope we get another year or two of "Community" but I'm not holding my breath.
Here's a link to a sneak preview of tomorrow nights Community, the last one for a while :(

Good! I live this show, I was worried it wasn't coming back.
Finally! Hope it continues, I think it will...there's a large following and lots of critical acclaim, and it can't be that expensive. They could lose Chevy Chase and save a bundle probably, few would miss him. IMO he's the worst thing about this great show, just nothing to like about his character.

That's exactly why he should be there. He isn't there to be liked, he's there to be disliked and serve as a story catalyst. To lose him would cripple the dynamic of the show.

I highly doubt it would cripple anything. It would save the show millions in salary and the rest of the cast "dynamic" is more than strong enough to be perfectly fine without him. In my humble opinion Chevy Chase hasn't been a part of anything truly funny since the mid 80s (Fletch, Vacation, Caddyshack). Am I missing anything even remotely good beyond 1988 or so? Also, I believe that one possible reason the show is not doing as well as it should be is because the characters are so unlikable. In general most people aren't interested in the stories of people they find distasteful. I enjoy the dark humor that comes from these characters but I don't think mainstream audiences ever will. Losing Chevy could soften some of the distate many people seem to have for this ensemble and allow it to survive beyond this season.
I like Chevy on the show. Any series can lose an actor or character and sometimes go on, but I doubt they are thinking this way for "Community." Ratings still need to be there, even if they can make the show for less money.

I'll certainly agree that it's the best thing the man has done in decades. I've always thought he was so overrated, though.

I guess Chevy Chase and creator of the show Dan Harmon are not the best of friends these days. I'm guessing if the show does come back next season, Chevy will be gone.

I suppose. But if you believe some of the stuff in that article, Harmon was pretty rough on him in front of Chevy's wife and kid. That would have set me off too.
OH YEAH! "Community" is coming back next season for at least 13 episodes! And "30 Rock" too!

Very glad to see that news. Such a funny show. There's a rumor I saw that it might go forward without Dan Harmon, I wonder what kind of changes we might see if that were the case. It seems so much of the series personality comes from the man's contribution, but perhaps that's not entirely true. Either way I'll be watching.
I'd say it's more likely Chevy Chase won't be back rather than Dan.
Well, I was wrong. They basically fired Dan Harmon. This is ridiculous and I may not watch next season in protest. Dan himself has posted a great blog entry at the link below about this. Not only is this whole thing dumb, NBC has handled it very poorly with him. Word of warning, the post by Dan contains some language - but it's pretty funny too. I like his attitude. Anyway, a sad day for fans of "Community."
http://danharmon.tumblr.com/ (http://danharmon.tumblr.com/)
He'll land on his feet as long as he doesn't spend too much time doing that thing he mentioned with "Prototype 2". Messed up though, that TV networks still have the power to pretty much take away the original characters, situations, and locations that an artist creates and do whatever they want with it. I don't think I would ever be okay with something like that happening with my own creative works. NBC can go shove it as far as I'm concerned, I love these characters but I'm not interested in seeing what people not involved in their creation do with them. It would be kind of like Star Trek continuing with all new actors, writers, and directors...oh wait a second, scratch that.
I kind of was inaccurate in the above comments. It's actually Sony Pictures that pushed Dan out. NBC just broadcasts the show.

Yep - probably true. I just love each week when you turn on this show you don't know what you are going to get - especially this season. Definite favorite of mine and awesome geek/pop culture references too. Joby did you see the episode that they kept referencing "Blade" in?
Not yet, I'm still a bit behind on this show. The most recent episode I saw was the second one after the comeback, with all the celebrity impersonators.
Wow - you have a lot of wacky stuff coming your way. Gotta be the weirdest season of them all this year. But I loved the variety each week.
Aye, I will catch up all at once fairly soon, albeit with a heavy heart now after this news.
This article does an excellent job of talking about the "cold, hard facts" of the TV business.

I really don't see how this show will in any way resemble what has been. From what I hear most of what happened on screen was right from Harmon. I love the cast and the show so of course I'll watch, and hope it's good.
I agree Chris. I'll tune in and see what next season is like, but without Dan around it won't be the same.
Bad news, fans, NBC just pulled the newly revamped "Community" from their fall schedule, without any announcement of a new time for it to air. Not good, though I imagine we'll probably see the show return sometime after January
Frak!

Geez, they really messed with the schedule of this show. Glad it's back!
I'm mixed on this first episode of the new season. A bit too self-referential and "inside baseball" I think for me. The inside Abed's head thing got old fast I thought. Not a terrible episode, but it was obvious that there was something missing with Dan Harmon gone. But, I'll keep watching.
Renewed! We're getting 13 more episodes for a shortened season 5. Season four was a bit uneven but I still enjoyed it this year. And...there's rumors that Dan Harmon might be returning for season five (presumably something to do with Chevy opting out but nothing official on this). Either way I'm glad to see more episodes of the Troy and Abed Morning Show!
Yeah, I really liked the 2 new episodes, and it really shows the difference having Dan Harmon back. The characters were becoming a parody of themselves. Should be a fun new direction. Abed's Nic Cage freakout was pretty damn hilarious!

Yeah, it's great to have the show back. I liked the second episode a lot more than the first. Love that we now get Mike (playing Mike) from "Breaking Bad" on this show now too!
Well "Community" could only dodge the cancellation bullet so long and won't be back on NBC next fall. Maybe Hulu will pick it up (that is the talk right now since the have the rights to show the reruns).
Hope for season 6 on Hulu! :)
