Great show Rico- really enjoyed Vartok's review of Monsters, put it on my netflix que, also enjoyed your take on the episode as well as the great audio comments that came in. VERY COOL!
Here is the song and the lyrics....
Encased in Ice
A parody of Foreigner's "As Cold as Ice"
Lyrics and sung by Rick Moyer
You're encased in ice
You're stuck in the ice from up above
Kim he gave some bad advice
and someday he'll pay the price I know
the glitch in the drive, a dangerous stunt
Harry's idea with a shuttle in front
Buried in time Harry wants it right
Recruited Chakoty, to join in his fight....
Voyager's encased in ice
The doctor he helps them with their plan
Can use seven of nine
Cranial implant time, you know
Temporal transmitter, take us back in time
Make things right leave the past behind
Rescue the crew so they won't do the fly
To bad the two guys both have to die....
(Cold as ice) You know that they are
(Cold-cold, As-as ice) The quantum slip stream drive
(Cold-cold-cold, As-as-as ice)
(Ooh-ooh-ooh) (Cold as, cold as I-I ice) (You're as cold ice) yes
(Cold as ice) Chakoty's being nice, being nice I know
(Cold as ice) (Cold as, cold as ice) Yes I know
(Cold as ice) (Cold as, cold as ice) Starship Challenger's flight, Captain Geordie's advice I know
(Cold as ice) (Cold as, cold as ice) Oh yes I know
(Cold as ice) (Cold as, cold as ice) No longer lodged in ice, lodged in ice, you know
(Cold as ice) (Cold as, cold as ice) Oh yes I know
(Cold as ice) (Cold as, cold as ice) your message made it through, made it through you know know
A great podcast on a great episode.
Yes, having now heard the exchange again, I think you're right about using Geordi in this episode. He carried a certain conviction in his assertion that he'd do the same thing that rang true given our shared knowledge of his past on the Enterprise.
I was going to say that his future as Captain of the Challenger worked against the future demonstrated in the comics before the 2009 movie but given that this is, in effect, a closed time loop now, I suspect that that doesn't really matter.
I didn't mention it in my comment (which was quite long enough) but the one additional thing that I would have liked to have seen was a better indication of the amount of time taken to re-engine a starship in the middle of nowhere twice. That would have been an awful lot of work, possibly more to retrofit the warp core than to fit the slipstream drive, and yet we didn't see any evidence of that.
I know this is episodic television but a nod to the work involved in a later would have perfected this story.
The slipstream engine work I think you have to chalk up to episodic TV. One thing they do mention is much of the various components they picked up from other alien races along the way home. So I took it they certainly had some help along the way in doing this.
Great song again Rick! I've played it a few times now! With the snow and cold outside it seems even more appropriate. ;)
Great podcast Rico.. thanks for covering one of my favorites. And great song Rick.. but of course I wouldn't expect anything less.. :)
Was it just me, or when Tom and Harry were doing the holodeck simulation and the slipstream was forming on the viewscreen, did you half expect a TARDIS to fly by?
timeless such a timeless episode one of the best there is
Great job as always. One of my favorite Voyager episodes.
Having. TSF day today and listened to three episodes. Loved the episode when I first saw this and Rico once again you did a great job reviewing the episode.
Awesome song by Rick again :)
Thanks! This is really a very good episode. Glad Harry got the spotlight for a change too.
I just got finished listing to the podcast today. Great podcast, I had to listen to it in two parts, started it last week and finished it today. I loved Bartok's movie and music review, I have not seen that movie yet but maybe latter. I do not remember watching this episode when it first aired. I am sure I did see it but it has been so long. I remember I bought my second car that same year. I do agree the part between Cahokia and Le Forge was well acted. Moyers777 music parody allways funny.
