Title: Guilty Pleasures
Post by: Jobydrone on January 18, 2011, 10:44:20 AM
I thought a fun idea would be for some of us to share some of our "guilty pleasures" when it comes to what we love to watch, read, listen to, or whatever.  I got the idea when I was thinking about some of the ribbing I took when I admitted that I loved the show Survivor.  I thought that maybe there were more of us that loved shows, movies, books or whatever but they might not be completely disposed to admit to it or talk about here on the forums.

So spill it, folks...no embarrassment, no judgements, just for fun, let those skeletons out of their closets!

Just as a tease, I have another good one besides Survivor, that I watch religiously and have never talked about here, but I'm not telling until some other people post  ;) ;) ;)

Jamie and I love Survivor and The Amazing Race, so those are our guilty pleasures. Jamie has a bunch of others I don't watch that even I am embarrassed to admit too! ;) And I love that Lady Gaga song "Bad Romance" :)

Ok, i'll go...I watch Real Housewives of New York City with the wife - but to be fair this is in exchange for her watching Family Guy with me.  I'll come clean to having watched Sex in the City with her....oh the shame!

I don't think I have any guilty pleasures. I like what I like and I don't get embarrassed. That being said, I did read all the Twilight books. Not because I enjoyed them a stories, but I couldn't help but watch as the train wreck unfolded.

Hmm....I watch anime?  (Not talking about US cartoons).

Really, none of mine are guilty pleasures anymore, just weird compared to some people.

Uhh, not likely, if my parents are any indication.  ;)

Honestly I just had no idea what would be considered a guilty pleasure for me.

How old are your parents? Ask them did they ever watch robotech or starblazers. Unless they are 60+, there is a good chance that they saw some anime even if they didn't know it.

Well I'll admit to mine...I am addicted to the MTV serial Jersey Shore. I find it simultaneously hysterically funny and totally shocking and unbelievable.  It's a window into the public lives of people i would never meet, know or interact with in any kind of way beyond the completely superficial and i find it fascinating.  And I have to say, last Monday's episode where Snooki got arrested for public indecency was the absolutely best ever. ;)

Huge Friends fan (yes planning a podcast) and I can't help but enjoy DIY SOS, Cowboy builders, Road Wars, any programme involving following police and ambulances, any cooking programmes so my list is very guilty and I watch em with chocolate and beer OHHHHH YEAHHHHHHH lol.

A couple spring to mind.  I watch "Desperate Housewives" and like Katy Perry (even before she got mega-famous).  I'm also a bit of a sucker for romantic comedies.

Over the Christmas Break, I downloaded the complete Battle of the Planets series off of torrents. Would love to find a subtitled Gatchaman, as I have the first 12 Epsiodes on some DVD's, but would like to see the rest. The scenes they cut out from BOTP were pretty intense and violent, but really explained what happened a lot better.

A few guilty pleasures lately for TV are Billy the Exterminator and Man vs Food.

I watched Sarah Palin's Alaska (in a house where everyone else is democrat so it did feel a little bit weird). But I'm a fan of Palin and bigger fan of Alaska. I'll watch just about anything that has Alaska in the title (The Alaska Experiment, the new Flying Alaska).
On the music front I'm also a big fan of Taylor Swift.

Currently airing on the BBC is the second series of Land Girls and it's quite good.  It is a period piece about city girls that go to work on an estate farm during the early days of the British involvement in WWII.  I'm watching that this week.

Is this like a 12 step program. Hi, my name's Allen and I'm a South Park-aholic. I know, it's horrible and terrible and racist and just plain really bad. But inside me there's a 14 year old boy who laugh hysterically when he watches it.

Also, I must admit I kinda like chick flicks. Don't tell my wife.

Don't hide your "South Park" love.  I like it a lot too.  Funny stuff!  Plus, I think they pretty much pick on everything and everyone so it equals out.

I don't mind South Park, but like the Simpsons, I find that a little goes a long way with me.  Futurama and Family Guy however I think I could watch all day.  I also would like to see a lot more of The Venture Brothers.  The first episode of that that I caught they killed Race Bannon and I was hooked.

I would have agreed with you except for this last season (or more?) is starting to go too far...one episode in particular nearly made me throw up.  Its certainly soured my enjoyment of the Family Guy + others series.

Never watched the Simpsons and I'm not much of a fan of South Park, but hey, someone has got to love it ;)

Don't recall that one.  Of the Family Guy episodes I have seen - 2 made me squirm (that I can recall) - 1 They made fun of Michael J Fox's Parkinsons and another they poked fun at Elizabeth Smart.
