Title: Ham (amateur) radio
Post by: Pyrovile on January 07, 2011, 08:04:22 PM
Any other hams on the board?  For those of you that aren't...consider it.  It's a good hobby that gives you a chance to perform an occasional community service.  Back in the day you used to have to know Morse code to get a license, but those days are gone.  You can take a 35 question multiple guess test and get in to the hobby now.  Lots of really fun techy stuff.  You can do soundcard digital modes like RTTY, PSK, SSTV...check out some of the SSTV sigs at http://www.worldsstv.com/ (http://www.worldsstv.com/)

If you want to play with Morse code and an old style telegraph key, there is a club called SKCC at http://www.skccgroup.com/ (http://www.skccgroup.com/)

More info at http://www.arrl.org/ (http://www.arrl.org/) or if you want to ask me a question, I'll check back in on this thead occasioally.
