Thanks for the podcast, can't wait for Q-Who?!!! This episode is among the short list of elite, all time, best-ever Star Trek and definitely deserves a closer look. Any fan of sci fi would agree that drama that works has to have conflict and a good villain to be at all compelling. Q-Who gave us the arguably most popular Star Trek villians ever with the Borg, and it also cast Q in a more sinister light than he had been up to that point or really ever would again. Q is portrayed in this episode as a menacing, almost Satanic figure, capable of anything. There's some great dialogue between Q and Picard, Q and Guinan, and we are treated to some juicy little tidbits of info about Guinan and her nature which are unfortunately never answered in Trek canon, as far as I know. Great choice for the next podcast, Rico!
O, definitly one of the best trek episodes ever. I really wish they did a little more canon background between Guinan and Q, but beggars can't be chosers, and I think theres a book about it. Could someone let me know what it's called? Anyway, can I make an episode suggestion RIco? I was gonna suggest the TNG episode where a Romulan ship is being attacked by another Romulan ship, and the enterprise beams aboard a Romulan who claims that the Romulans are preparing to wage war against the Federation. Can't remember the episode name, but it's a favourite of mine, especially the end. Thanks. O and downloading this ep now.
The episode you're thinking of is from season three, called "The Defector." It's another great episode, to me very reminiscent of the TOS classic "Balance Of Terror." I'm not sure about info on Guinan in the TNG novels, I'd like to know that too. I seem to remember something involving her in the Peter David TNG/Q books but I havent read those for many years.
Yeah, "Q Who?" is a favorite of mine. Looking forward to covering this weekend. Plus I don't think I've done an episode involving Q yet. It's about time I talked about him and his race.
