I was thinking the same thing.
Just to let everyone know, this is definitely a real film. As far as the poster, I think it's an early one and (I think) official. This movie is why Olivia Wilde has been missing a lot of "House" episodes this season.
I'll go see it in the theater.
I've heard about this for over a year now.. glad to see it will be out soon.
I'm glad it's real as it sounds like a great premise!
Here's what they are saying is the first teaser poster for this movie.. not sure if the one that was previously posted in this thread is fan made or not.

Yeah, that's Daniel Craig in the poster. I forgot Jon Favreau was directing. This should be fun!
OMG!!!! they just released the trailer.. made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.. .gonna be a good one.

Beat me to it on this one Kenny. Looks very cool! Harrison Ford needs to do more westerns. He looks perfect in this setting.
I think this deserves a AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great cast alone makes it worth a watch. Thanks for the trailer.

What do you mean.. the entire trailer is a spoiler :)
I've always found the trick with trailers is to reveal enough of the movie to make it entice people to see it, but not so much you "spoil" the movie. These days they seem to show more and more in the trailers. I would agree there seem to be a few twists in that trailer that might have been better to hold out for the movie itself.
From the dialogue it reveals:
The female lead (is her name Olivia?) is an alien! The exclusion of one piece if dialogue would have prevented this.
Are you sure?
It only reveals that her people were attacked. For all we know, she's the only actual human and these people are human like from another world.
No I'm not sure, just came across that way to me.

I agree with Dan's take on it too.

It came across to me as that too, but I'm betting that it was purposely tossed in there to get people to think a certain way.
When I first saw it I briefly thought the same, but then I remembered Dark City and that little twist.
I didn't think that at all.. and I couldn't imagine all the hands this trailer goes through that if is was a plot point it would be spoiled in a trailer.

That was what I ended up taking from it. They showed us what they wanted and it might be something completely not what we're led to assume.
Well it's either true or intentionally misleading. I guess we'll find out in a few months.
Either way it looks like an awesome movie!

Yep, that's what I got as well. And I have been skeptical about this one but know it looks like FUN.
Also the part where she is walking around a fire naked surrounded bu the towns people might be her reveal scene.
New extended trailer. Looking very cool. Daniel Craig is just such a bada$$.

I just get more and more excited to see this movie. This one is the one I am anticipating the most this summer.
That is one awesome trailer. How cool wil this be. :D
They show a trailer for this before the Super 8 movie. Indeed going to be very cool. I like Daniel Craig but I am a bigger fan of Harrison Ford. So I'm looking foward to seeing him in this.
Anyone go see this yet? Hearing some mixed reviews.

I'm hoping to see it sometime after work this week... falling so behind on movies.
I talked to somebody who'd seen it and he told me it was good, but I'd still like to go check it out myself when I get the time.
Just got back from the matinee in a multiplex theatre.
The house was full - the audience applauded at the end.
This would have been a good western without the Aliens - of course it was more awesome with.
Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford really delivered - great performances by all. :) :) :)
I saw it yesterday with my wife and mom. We all liked it with my wife liking it more than I did. My mom said she liked it because it was so different from other movies. Worth a visit to your theater to see it. You wouldn't get the same scope, for lack of a better word, if you see this on your TV. Well maybe if you have a 50in LCD it would be alright.
I almost went this morning, so now later this week for me. Can hardly wait!
it comes out here this week so i am going to see it, i saw Captain America yesterday and really enjoyed it.
I saw it today and really liked it. Looked great with a lot of out door scenes that really take you back to the old west. I liked the mix with the Sci-Fi in it, as it made it feel fresh to me.
Haven't seen it yet, but intend to. They've finally done a movie combing the genres. Early Sci-Fi borrowed scripts for westerns. Sci-fi really took off after the Russians launched Sputnik, Suddenly no one wanted to see westerns and sci-fi replaced them. The movies Outland (High Noon) and Battle Beyond the Stars (The Magnificent Seven) are 2 movies that use Western scripts.
I did a whole podcast on the sub-genre of the Sci-Fi western. Another film that comes to mind is "Westworld."
Westworld was great! As for this new movie - if Olivia Wilde is in it, I am going to see it...
Makes me wanna be a Robot Gunlinger Cowboy like Yule Brenner.

And don't forget the best of the bunch to combine the genres...FIREFLY! :)
I kinda like the idea of Rick the gunslinger. I got the date wrong though according to the cinema listings it's the 17th in the Uk. Have to see super 8 this weekend instead
Other entertaining sci-fi westerns:
Wild Wild West (series and/or movie)
The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.
My local tv station ran them as a double feature Saturday mornings. Great way to start a weekend...
Just got back from this movie and really enjoyed it. The movie has a very cool feel to it and is a nice blending of Sci-Fi and western. I also thought this could easily have almost been an episode of "Firefly" in a way. You've got a Mal type character in Daniel Craig, a beautiful girl, bar fights, gun fights, ships flying around and so forth. Really well done and I love the scenery where the movie was filmed. The aliens were pretty darn awesome too! All in all, a very enjoyable time at the movies. I'm not quite sure what some people were expecting when they went to see this one. It is exactly what the title says - "Cowboys & Aliens."
Oh, one last thing I'll put in a spoiler box below. Don't read this unless you don't care about spoilers....
Just like I had guessed from trailers a long while back, Olivia Wilde's character is an alien. Her people had also been attacked by the bad guy aliens on her planet too. I still think they should have hid that one a bit better since it comes into a play and is discovered in an unusual way in the film.
Rico, in response to your spoiler
I didn't see that coming. I really liked the idea but just didn't see it coming.
Look back in this thread a bit Will for our discussion on the topic/spoiler.
Looking forward to watching this but yes,
That has got to be the worse decision ever for what information to include in a trailer!
Truthfully, I don't think it's a huge deal really. I'm just a bit surprised that they went the way they did with the things. I'm also guessing that probably except for geeks and big movie guys like us, most people won't know anything until they see the movie.
That is cool you enjoyed the movie Rico. I agree it had a real nice feel to it, with all the open areas they filmed in.
I was like Will in that I was surprised that the Olivia Wilde character was an Alien. I probably on skimmed the previous posts as I usually like to stay spoiler free. Also the trailers I saw were not real long ones. So I guess I am lucky I missed getting spoiled on that part of the Movie.
I liked Olivia's look in her hat too! :biggrin
I just saw the movie last night and I really enjoyed it! :D
I'm heading out in a few minutes to check it out.
Cowboys and Aliens is an awesome movie!
Got to see this movie last night with my son Andrew. It was good, but not as good as Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Just sayin' ;)
I do have to say that it didn't live up to the hype. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, just less than I expected.
Rick, you are a monkey lover! Admit it! ;)
That pic of Olivia sold me on the movie...

Exactly! Oh, Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford give some great performances too. Loved Craig speaking in his way out west American accent.
yes, his accent was funny! And Yes, I LOVE MONKEYS!
Good film. Been waiting awhile for something different. I thought Harrison Ford did a great job in this.
I've noted in some scifi movies aliens come to Earth looking for water or our women. This time they came looking for Gold.
Don't know if they are thinking of a Sequel, but I think they can still revive
Olivia Wild's alien character.
Edit: Put spoilers in spoiler tag
Hey HAL ... having not seen the movie ... those are some HUGE spoilers!!!
How To Watch This Movie In 5 Simple Steps
1. Order a take-away pizza.
2. Pour a cold one of your choice, I personally had some good real ales.
3. Insert DVD.
4. Press play.
5. Switch off brain.
Some nice concepts, a good ensemble that works well together and doesn't outstay it's welcome. The effects on the aliens look a little hokey at times, but this is ignorable. Worth a watch.
Just saw this over the weekend...I know seriously behind the times. I thought Harrison Ford was great in this role. My eyes were riveted to Olivia Wilde - and I couldn't move them.
This was a fun action-filled romp. Most of the plot didn't make a lot of sense to me, but I still had fun watching.
